HBO-Enlightened

HBO has opted not to order a third season of Enlightened. The critically acclaimed but low rated series aired its second season finale on Sunday, March 3.  “It was a very difficult decision.," HBO said in a press statement. "We’re proud of the show and we look forward to working with Mike White and Laura Dern in the future.”

“Difficult decision”??? I think not, this was a no brainer

Btw Hung was great!!! Should’ve been on at least one more season

I watched every episode but it wasn’t as great as Patton Oswalt made it out to be lol. I’m glad Girls is returning, but it seems like a lot of people hate it on here because it’s popular. Oh well.

The sad thing is that the show was really growing from season one. Not only in viewers but in critics too. And the show was gaining a lot of fans. Not to mention that Laura Dern won a Golden Globe for the show last year.

I believed HBO cared about these stuff.

Girls is a massive flop and complete trash aimed at dullard hipsters. True Blood is on its way out (at least creatively). I like The Newsroom but it’s no tentpole. Game of Thrones is literally all HBO has. I will watch with joy as Showtime continues to grow while HBO crumbles due to moronic decisions like this.

    @Jj

I have to agree that HBO is on a slump in the last few years. Ok they have GOT, but for the rest? Meh.
10 years ago it was making groundbreaking tv: The Sopranos, Six Feet Under etc. etc. It was a joy to see something so different being produced. Now it’s all so safe.

I don’t get it. Why would people pay for HBO if they have so few TV shows? Legit, it’s all just movies and Game of Thrones. That’s the only point of HBO IMO

Right before the season two finale of the show, I expect that this show will be cancelled despite the critical acclaim. It is because the show didn’t receive enough audiences like Girls. It is so sad though that a critically acclaimed show get cancelled. Enlightened is a wonderful show. Moving this show to other network is very impossible. The only chance for this show is on Netflix.

I didn’t think season 2 was as good as season 1. Still, I liked Laura Dern, and I’ll miss seeing her on TV.

Shame on HBO for doing this. This is really bad news! Loved to show so much, it was really a hidden gem on TV, and even though I’m glad that the second season finished on a high note and satisfying ending, you can clearly see that there was more story left to tell!

I wouldn’t blame HBO, it tried to keep the series alive. But if the public does not follow, what can it do?

  • David Howell

For HBO it’s about how many people watch in any form whatsoever (and in any demo – a 60-year-old subscriber pays as much as a 30-year-old subscriber!) are a) tuning in; b) are encouraged to start or renew their subscription because of the show. (That’s where awards bait comes in – awards drive new subscriptions from the “ooh, I want to see what the hype is about this award winning show!” crowd.)

Evidently Enlightened couldn’t deliver enough of that, or any other, crowd to get renewal.

One of the finest shows HBO have EVER aired. Real Shame!

HBO is not to blame that people just watch stupid violent things like GoT and not these quality shows.

I’m happy with a short series of awesome episodes than a series that goes on and on… even if its an incredible show! I’ll have to find DVD’s for this now that I know it has a proper ending.

  • dust

I love people whining about Game of Thrones because they’re butthurt that no one watched their favorite show.

  • DW

your getting ratings confused with eyeballs. ratings are for networks , eyeballs are for hbo and my feeling is that it did lousy eyeball wise and no one watched it on demand and HBO GO during the week. also hbo has a budget and why not take that money for enlightened and put it towards another show.

  • BigBrotherFan

OH SO NOW RATINGS MATTER, HUH?

GIRLS FANS ARE CRAZY I GUESS RATINGS DON’T APPLY TO THEIR TRASH SHOW.

    GIVE ME A BREAK

GIRLS IS DONE NEXT SEASON! RATINGS LOSER!

They Uncanceled the Life and Times of Tim after season 2 but that was a very inexpensive animated series so I doubt this gets reversed. A shame. Best show on HBO

These so-called “Nielsen Ratings” should not be… the end all, be all or indicator towards whether a show gets cancelled or not… the simple fact(pun intended), Americans as a whole are very dumb-down creatures.. Hence the reason for absolute Crap like DUCK DYNASTY and Honey Boo Boo to get killer ratings.. which goes to prove that there are PLENTY of D- and C+ students that watch that reality garbage and turn those shows into Cult followings in the ratings wars.

  • izzy

BTW, Girls is not a new concept or great TV.. its just a younger, recycled version of Sex and the City…It’s not groundbreaking nor innovative… you fell more lost in the storyline if you missed a episode of Enlighted rather than GIRLS.. you can miss a episode and it would not matter.
