Of course Touch is going to be canceled, but the Cancellation Bear is wringing every single weekly drop of juice from the orange that is Fox renewal and cancellation decisions at this point. The Goodwin Games, a show not yet on the schedule, was in the headline last week. Glee the week before, and probably The Cleveland Show again next week.

Boring? Of course. Avoidable? The bear doesn't see how. Your suggestions are welcome.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the Fox Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @Bill Gorman

    Raising Hope had two additional episodes ordered which brings its total for this season to 24 episodes. But I’ve heard the season finale, consisting of two episodes, will air after American Idol on the 28th, but that leaves it with only 22 episodes. When will the two additional ones air?

    @Bill Gorman

    HA! The headline was the best part of this whole post.

    Nothing to see here. Move along…

  • Just Desserts

    I’m just happy Raising Hope is already renewed. :) :) :) :)

    @Bill Gorman

    “Should Terra Nova have been left off the Bear’s menu last year?”

    I pay no attention to scheduling minutiae.

    Probably as part of next season. It does make me wonder why they ordered the 2 additional episodes and why they didn’t manage to show them somewhere, such as instead of New Girl and Mindy Project repeats.

    The Cleveland Show will definitely be cancelled this season. While it’s true that its numbers have been up for the past month, this is because it was in a new time slot. After this week it’ll go back to its old 7:30 time slot will it will face certain cancellation. And with numbers around 2.8 million I can’t see Fox deciding to give it a final 13 episode season 5. Touch and Cleveland Show will both be cancelled around May.

    American Idol though they slipped in the ratings – is still in the top 10 shows of the week in Nielson ratings and is still Fox’s biggest rated show in the demo – It’s not going anywhere – even though I myself have only caught a couple of episodes it this season.

  • Patrick Ausgewahlt

    The Cleveland Show got a 1.2, 1.8, 1.3, 1.9. The 1.8 and 1.9 are at 7:30 and the others at 6:30. The 1.9 episode was actually number 23 on the demo this week. My suggestion, make the 6 PM hour all repeats. Run the rest of Bob’s Burgers during the fall. Once Football is done, bring Cleveland back midseason at 7:30, sometimes 8:30 when American Dad! is a repeat

    I’m just glad Bones is already renewed because starting next week it’s going to suffer, and more than likely fall below 2.0. :( I wish it was on another night other than Monday, and of course Friday.

  • JacobYates

    @Bill Gorman
    Thanks anyway

    @Freddy Arrow
    Thanks. I’ve been trying to find an answer to that for some time.

    @catsrule: The question isn’t whether 1 person accurately represents 1,000, because of course that isn’t true. The question is whether 25,000 households accurately represent the viewing population of the US. You can debate that point all you want, but I guarantee the Nielsen Company has done a truckload of statistical analysis to ensure that their sample size is sufficient.

    And the producers of Alcatraz expected they will have some 300 episodes aired.
    Equivalent to the 300 prisoners that disapppeared suddenly en masse in 1963 and now 50 years later is resurfacing one prisoner at a time (although there are episode when more than one re-appeared). But if the prisoners all disappear at the same time, why can’t they not re-appear all at the same time, too? Now the show is cancelled and I hope they will not re-appear anymore! Alcatraz premiere was good though. But like Undercovers lost its wind in the long run. And what happened to Terra Nova, did it resurface as Revolution?

  • Joseph

    I can actually see “American Idol” getting rested for a couple of years, with a return during the 2015/2016 TV season, with a new hoist, a new panel of judges, and a tweaked format.

  • Joseph

    Typo: I meant “new host”!

  • Phil

    Touch should get renewed and if FOX denies that, I hope another network or Netflix will scoop it up for season 3 because I’m hooked on this show! Great writing, creator (who created Heroes), and actors (i.e. Kiefer Sutherland). What more could you ask for!

    Don’t you remember when FOX wanted Kiefer back on their network ever since they hit a lull after 24 ended and now look at how they treated this great show–put it on Friday nights! I mean come on, who manages their schedules! They should be fired! Touch would’ve done better in ratings if it were side by side with The Following!

    Thus ends my passionate rant and supportive opinions.

    Ratings better than a CW show?

  • Theoacme

    A new Fringe on Fridays – starring Bette Midler as the proprietor of a gentlemen’s club? (Again, page views for Bill and Robert…)

    Would that speed-dating show FOX had on last season have done better than Touch?

    Would the FOX sitcoms do worse on Thursday nights than the NBC ones?

    Will Bill and Robert have to have a contest to provide more images for their Cancellation Bear library?

  • halloween

    Alcatraz and Terra Nova should of been renewed

  • catsrule

    @JaneElliot: And there is no way 25,000 Nielsen viewers represents millions of US residents. Everyone has unique tastes.
