I actually thought DWTS will premiere around 2.6 so this was a surprise. It always drop by week 2 but I think it will settle around 2.4-2.6 all season long which is not great but enough to keep ABC afloat

Aniin: “Carrie Diaries is the new Nikita constantly getting adjusted down.”

I’ll let someone else take that since I don’t give a damn about TCD… :-)

    @DD
Yes, ABC is more stable than NBC with respect to scripted fare. I have to believe overall network ratings for an entire season or season to date are almost as meaningless as total viewers; it strikes me more as network PR/chest pounding. Advertisers look to the ratings of individual programs and not a network’s overall ranking in the ratings race when sponsoring a program. Otherwise, they would be paying top dollar to advertise on Smash, Goon, Whitney, Fashion Star, etc — NOT! I believe NBC would be a distant fourth in the network race if it were not for football. As of late Fall 2012, ABC had more programs winning the “higher income” 18-49 demo than any other network. I believe, ABC also attracts more younger females in the 18-49 demo than the other networks which is a highly coveted demo. Bottom line: advertisers parse ratings data in a lot more detail than is available to readers of this site beyond just humans with eyeballs that are between the ages of 18 and 49.

How’s this for an ABC schedule next fall?

    SUNDAY
    7 – AFV
    8 – DWTS (2hrs) / The Bachelor
10 – OUAT (not sure if this would work at 10, but it would have ample lead-in support)

    MONDAY
    8 – DWTS Results / mid-season comedies if FRIDAYS don’t work out?
    9 – Castle
    10 – Red Widow / NEW DRAMA

    TUESDAY
8 – Shark Tank (it’s proven to do well here)
    9 – NEW DRAMA
10 – Body of Proof (it’s proven it has a stable audience; just needs a better lead-in)

    WEDNESDAY
    8 – The Middle
    8:30 – Suburgatory
    9 – Modern Family
    9:30 – The Neighbors
    10 – Nashville

    THURSDAY
    8 – Grey’s Anatomy
    9 – Scandal
    10 – Revenge

    FRIDAY
    8 – Last Man Standing
    8:30 – Family Tools / NEW SITCOM
    9 – Malibu Country
9:30 – How to Live with Your Parents / NEW SITCOM
    10 – NEW DRAMA / 20/20 (to be used as back-up)

I really think OUAT needs to be paired with a show that it’s more compatible with, but there’s none really.

About the overall ratings and ranking of network let us not forget that FOX does not program 10 pm which gives it a huge advantage to the Big 3, if the program at 10 pm, they probably would have not been for the last few years

  • bobby060

You listed Go On and The New Normal as not “new” tonight…by watchin the posts yall want most shows to fail…think people should care less about ratings and get a life.

Some of these ABC schedules are hilarious. Moving OUAT to 10 pm??? Having Red Widow and Body of Proof on Monday and Tuesday nights at 10 respectively? I mean come on. The former just hit a 1.0 on its 4th(?) episode and the latter is hitting 1.2’s. and using the excuse that body of proof does well when it has a high lead in is ridiculous. If ABC went with that schedule they’d be in a distant fourth place not even close to third place. And no way does DWTS move to Sundays. I don’t think a live program would work on Sundays. That would make all the crew and cast of DWTS work all Sunday on a weekend! I doubt that would happen. Before ABC can even think about moving DWTS or dropping it to one cycle or dropping the results show etc. ABC needs to fix Tuesdays ASAP. Mondays are a problem but it’s the least of their problems right now.

Oh and the middle to Tuesdays? And modern family all alone surrounded by new shows? Man someone wants ABC to fall further..

    @ Chris

Long time no see.. Nice to know your Castle hatred hasn’t subsided.

  • Destiny

Rules of Engagement is one of the funniest shows on TV, I hope it continues for a few more seasons!!!

  • RyanCanada

M&M has high viewers but low demo smh I love the show

Where is it written on stone that dancing will lose to The voice. The voice is going to drop quite a bit this time. For one thing , people are sick of the singing reality show. the best of singers have already been discovered. The Voice will never beat Idol and will probally lose some weeks to DWTS. Besides, the only reason most people watch was Christina Aguilera. The rest are just okay, but Christina brings it all. i predict 8 million and a 3.0 demo

  • maryann

my teenage girls love the carrie diaries.
its a great show .. w/o violence and murder and foul language..

  • Ram510

I figured Rules of Engagement would adjust up again. Happy HIMYM is doing better than those dumb 2 Broke Girls, it’s a waaaaay better show

    Awful and unrealistic.

The Zap2It schedule in the corner isn’t done by the TVBTN people. Listings are occasionally incorrect when networks make last minute changes like NBC did.

think people should care less about ratings and get a life

Says the person going out of his way to criticize people on an internet forum he apparently has no interest in.

Whatever the reason ‘Castle’ received the good numbers this week, I just hope it continues because it’s the best program on TV.

Nonsense. For most of FOX’s run at #1, they were crushing the other networks. Not programming 10pm had nothing to do with it, they were easily beating them 8-10pm as well.

Sure, they wouldn’t have won last year, but last year isn’t representative of the past eight seasons.

Also, back when NBC was the #1 network early last decade, there were seasons where they were stronger at 10pm than the rest of the night.

FOX is different, but that’s not necessarily an advantage for them.

It doesn’t need to be. True the show is in a slump at the moment but there’s nothing to suggest it won’t recover next season. I would pair it with Shield, and Revenge.

Certainly Shield would prop up Revenge, if given enough notice I’m sure the Revenge writers could write a Season 3 opener that would appeal to newcomers who are checking out the show for the first time after watching Shield.

Let us not forget that “who wins” is entirely a PR title, and is interesting for folks like us to discuss and the network PR folks and execs to brag about, but has no effect on the network’s revenues.

The amount of revenue that Fox gets from advertising is completely dependent on their own ratings, and has nothing to do with the other guy’s ratings.
