@ maryann You do realize that TCD is the prequel to Sex and the City, right? As soon as Carrie loses her virginity on TCD it will be a show about sex if it’s renewed.

    @Ultima

Nonsense. For most of FOX’s run at #1, they were crushing the other networks. Not programming 10pm had nothing to do with it, they were easily beating them 8-10pm as well.

Sure, they wouldn’t have won last year, but last year isn’t representative of the past eight seasons.

Yes I agree last season was not representative of the past 8 seasons but still can’t help but think that if they program 10 pm back, it won’t be an easy win since 10pm shows used to be stronger (especially CBS) pull their ratings average but then again Idol was so huge back then that it could offset the losses. Admittedly, I’m too lazy to check on the ratings of the past and compute so I was just making a comment in jest. In these ratings climate today though, not having 10pm to program though is an advantage. No extra 7 hours to drag average. Anyway, it’s a moot point I know because as Bill said it’s just network P.R but we care coz it’s fun to discuss

I agree that FOX not programming the 10pm hour did not affect them all those years ago but I think starting last year when the 10pm hour started dropping off gave FOX an advantage that continues into this year. I still think American Idol is carrying FOX as it has for so long. Do we really see them winning any other nights except maybe for Sundays with their tired cartoons after football?

I think that The Carrie Diaries will be cancelled. CW expects that the show will be a huge hit but it turns out to be a bit flop. The show suffers the same fate from The Secret Circle last season. But, what if the show move to Netflix, ABC Family or Lifetime?

  • Chrissy…

    dwts is pure family fun…

  • Call me a hiperflop

    Lol.
Almost every show on the CW adjusts down in the finals.

Looks like DWTS took a chunk out of The Following. Castle did okay. The two seem to share a fair bit of audience.

Deception is a hot mess. Yikes. Is that a new episode rating?

  • David Howell

That is a new Deception episode, the series finale (let’s call it what it is, because not even NBC can renew this!).

The CW had better have a genre show pilot that pairs with HOD, because otherwise they’re stuck with 0.3s out of TCD next season in order to nurse HOD to 88.

  • silvia agren

Happy by increased audience and rating of Castle! So happy!

  • JJF

Castle is ABC’s biggest drama in terms of audience. (Not irrelevant like many say.) They should cultivate that.

    @Aniin
Nikita has been adjusted down 4 times in 14 episodes this season. In its previous 2 seasons it was adjusted down a toatal of 4 times, I think i read.
If Nikita wasn’t a season from syndication, it’s ratings wouldn’t justify renewal. But it is and so it will berenewed.TCD is a freshman show puilling 0.4, it’s not going to be renewed. A 0.4 on a Mondays is likely equivalent to a 0.2 on Fridays.

The Following tested 2.4 for the second time this season. It’s revision upwards could indiacte another bounce back towards it’s previous level or it could be no more than an upward blip as it sinks beneath the waves. Must be pretty disconcerting for FOX execs who have already renewed this show.

  • gerry

damn it, carrie! why must you ALWAYS adjust down? i still think its a total gamble between it, batb or both. its gonna be a windy road til may.

  • Sam

TCD and BatB in the same boat? Not really. While both shows are dreadful and should be cancelled I think BatB is a bit better off. BatB is cheap to produce, has great international sales and could work on Fridays. It also has more episodes than TCD. So while I really think they should cancel both shows to try something new, BatB has slightly better chances.

  • jj

    Good numbers for Castle.

  • Dan W

@Sam-I always read about how BATB is cheaper to produce and has great international sales but no one EVER has a link to back these claims up. I didn’t realize people could easily find out all the production costs of a show as well as all these apparently amazing sales overseas. Please enlighten me!!! I’m dying to know!

  • Sandy

I agree DWTS & Voice do not have the same core audience – although there is overlap. The producers of DWTS have been making so many changes to try to up their prime number (focus on 18-25), they are pushing the other viewers away (35-49 & older)- thus the drop in overall viewers. Without some of their best pros this season & a cast that is mostly reality stars/young stars/athletes, I think it will definitely trend down. They added contemporary/jazz dances for pity sake – they want the show to keep declining…..and no change in judges…..meanwhile you have Usher & Shakira on the Voice this season….

  • Liesl

BatB may not always have the greatest ratings, but it has an incredible fanbase, who will fight to keep the show. The cast/crew is so interactive on the show and really make the fans feel special. Now I know the pilot wasn’t the greatest but the show has really picked up since episode 9. There is so much romance, action, drama and comedy in each episode and the writers know how to keep fans guessing. I hope the ratings improve to reflect the passion of the fans. Batb really deserves a second season!

  • POIFanatic

@Dan W: I’m not a fan of BATB, but where were you when the fans did post links to the things you’re asking for multiple times on this site?

  • Victorking

I’m Argentinian, and I love The Following… Probably the best series in her class. Great Kevin Bacon, and his partners too. Cheers to the magnificent Kevin Williamson!!!

  • Victorking

About The Following, I think perhaps the renewal has to do with the worldwide success of the series, despite its discrete numbers in USA. It has a good script, good actors, and decent effects. That is more than can be said for most of the current series…
