    @PurpleDrazi,

    Yes and no. That international popularity (or rather, the money from international syndication) likely helps NY be profitable despite its low ratings. But it still didn’t save Miami and won’t necessarily save NY this year.

    Of course, usually the “it does well internationally” bingo excuse has absolutely no evidence to back it up.

    The numbers are still good for the Network, and overseas sales are still great – not surprise here.

    move along…

    First of all thanks ! I meant if a Show is Renewed in March it is more likely to get a full Season pick-up ?
    I was afraid because CSI is very expensive and i thought CBS would Renew it for a shortened season.

    Contrary to many of our fantasy schedulers, virtually all renewals are for a full season.

    No correlation between announcement date and order length AFAIK.

    @Reache

    Most shows are cancelled with cast members still under contract for more episodes. The Danson 2-year deal just means that they would be able to renew it again next year without having to negotiate another contract with him.

    @Elijah

    Don’t worry about Elementary, the show is safe as safe can be. Personally I’m more interested in the fact Vinnie Jones has signed up for another 2 episodes of Elementary, if you remember his character M. Makes me wonder in what context he’l be appearing.

    @David,
    Thanks :)

    IMHO

    Announcing a single renewal every few days would, IMHO, be a good idea as it will generate buzz … just like the above comments asking about their show(s) … several weeks of internet chatter about CBS renewals will be a good thing in the long run for the shows this spring. I’m sure da boyz here at TVbtN would also love a long, protracted renewal season drawing lotsa comments/page views with each new announcement.

    And a big congrats to Ted & the whole CSI cast ‘n crew for another good year. So many thought Danson wouldn’t cut it but I think he’s done a great job and helped breathe new life into the series.

    ymmv

    CBS, Please shock all of the boggers and renew Vegas

  • erwanfromfrance

    In France, CSI is very not the most watched American cop show ! 1) The Mentalist 2) Unforgettable 3) Person Of Interest 4)Criminal Minds 5) Castle 6) NCIS 7) CSI it’s seventh and it is very not popular ! For example, The Mentalist has a 39-42% share and CSI a 22-25% share , people don’t like it and in target 18-34 it’s very very low !

    Congratulations to CSI. To think that George Eads pulled that “prank” after the first season. I bet he is glad that everything worked out so well.

    Criminal Minds is owned by BOTH CBS AND ABC. CBS gets US rights while ABC gets international rights.

    Elizabeth Shue is one of a few show business babes that I’ve been in love with for a while <3 <3 <3

    CSI is a landmark, a show that everyone knows and references, sort of a pop culture phenomenon even though there’s really nothing extraordinary when you think about it. With that in mind, its ratings are still decent after 14 years on the air. How could CBS do anything less?

  • jake3988

    Considering the show has been freefalling in the ratings, I’m kind of surprised by this. But it’s still a great show, so I’m glad to see it happen.

  • THE OLD MAN

    CSI renewed? Who wooda thought.

  • s0303

    not surprising…csi still gets very good ratings, especially for a 10pm show…i don’t think i’ve ever watched an episode the whole way thru though…

    @erwanfromfrance

    The Mentalist is HUGE in France.

  • TheFrenchGuy

    @ Erwanfromfrance

    CSI is very popular in France. Why TF1 airs repeats every Saturday at 11 plus the new episodes ?
    The Mentalist is #1 American Cop Show in France with an average of 8.8 million viewers.

    I used to love CSI – when William Peterson was in it. He was such a class act as Grissom. Not really been able to get into it since he left but I am glad to see such a long lived show still going and on air. Bit surprised at its renewal before other shows, particularly with some of the lows its pulled recently and so can only imagine this is due to contract negotiations maybe being leaked or something.

    Am i the only person who finds Ted Danson without any merit at all as an actor? I hated him in Cheers – the rest of the cast I loved but he’s always seemed such a charisma vacuum to me personally.
