    @Cass – They didn’t include SPN to that list because it wasn’t a CW produced show. It started out on the WB. They were saying the only hit shows the CW “made” were TVD, GG and maybe Arrow if it continues to do well.

    Anyway, both SPN and TVD ratings are very good for being in their 8th and 4th seasons.

    tscchope: “Beauty and the Beast is shot in Canada in Toronto. Canadian shows are generally cheaper to make than those shot in the USA. It’s $1.5m from international sales could fully fund its production costs. This could mean that ratings are irelevant…”

    We don’t know that. I suspect it’s rare that international sales fully fund a project. It’s a possibility but even so ratings would not be irrelevant. If the ratings aren’t good internationally, then CBSStudios won’t be able to get the same price for it for next season at the upfronts in May. Also since shows drop season to season, the international buyers may not want to pay the same rate for next season.

  • Richard Steven Hack

    Tom: “” It’s $1.5m from international sales could fully fund its production costs.”Did you omit some digits? That amount wouldn’t come close to funding 22 episodes.”

    That’s per episode, just to be clear. That is a significant amount of money to put toward the usual production costs for the average show.

    Ok, just to clear things out…
    I AM form Europe and i ASSURE you no one here has ever even heard of BATB.. the only CW shows airing here (Spain, Italy, France etc) are Arrow, 90210, TVD and SPN (we had GG on primetime). so the whole thing about BATB doing well overseas is crap, it’s just been made up by delusional fans. Plus I’d like to point out that low-rated teen-oriented CW shows mostly air in the afternoon (TVD) or during summer schedule (90210)or late at night (SPN airs at 11 pm) so I can’t imagine european networks actually paying that much money for a show aimed at airing at 3pm or late at night… just saying

  • Janice

    I think the only shot BATB has is if the CW decides to air scripted after nikita on fridy next year… they’re not going to waste another good lead-in like arrow, TVD or SPN on it again (they’ll use them to launch the selection, the hundred and the originals) and I don’t think it can be paired with HOD… and it certainly can’t be a lead-in on another night seen the post-TVD sinking act. So I believe there’s just no room for it on the schedule except for fridays.

    that said, the CW might as well move HOD to friadys but I think that’s unlikely considering it’s still 2 years away fron syndacation they’ll have to wait another year and burn it off on season 4

    The one CW show that is huge internationally is Arrow. It’s the highest rated ‘basic cable’-equivalent show in the UK with 1.5m viewers. It’s also regularly in the top 20 in Canada.

    I think the show would be much more successful in the US if it wasn’t airing on The CW. The network has a stigma attached to it.

  • Oliver

    (to put that Arrow number in context, The Walking Dead gets about 1m viewers)

    Actually BATB has been picked up in 19 countries. Watch in the UK has a 3 season deal for BATB. France, Portugal, Sweden, Norway and Holland are also showing it in Europe. Arrow, although shown in the UK is no more popular than BATB, the same going for TVD.

    @Nick

    TBS, USA, FX, and MyNetwork, don’t seem to mind airing repeats of CBS programming, and viewers don’t seem to mind watching them on any of those channels.

  • Michael1

    @Nick

    “Having March Madness for two weeks in the spring only gives CBS a little extra spare change and cuts down on repeats.”

    Just let me know when the participants of the 8pm Thursday game become relevant enough for someone else to recognize the fact that Michigan was playing South Dakota STATE!!! I believe that “S. Dak. St.” takes up only 11 characters while “South Dakota” takes up 12 characters.

  • Nick

    @Michael1

    I never said anything about repeats being bad. I just said that CBS prefers to air March Madness than them. Looking at the ratings, they do about the same, maybe a little better than PoI/Elementary repeats. So, contrary to what some posters are saying, CBS is not dragging themselves down with March Madness. It’s perdectly acceptable filler programming. If it didn’t make economic sense, they wouldn’t do it anyway.

    @janice
    See below : International countries who have picked up BATB and when it airs, granted Spain & Italy aren’t on the list, France is but it hasn’t aired as yet. I have no idea how it rates, but it is airing.
    I think that as 1 single person in a place as LARGE as Europe it is very presumptious of you to ASSURE us that NOBODY has heard of BATB, I’m in Ireland and the last time I checked we were part of Europe and you certainly are going to ASSURE nobody on my behalf.
    I watch it & enjoy it, it is what it is & yes there is a real buzz on social media when it airs, I can assure you of this because I have witnessed it. If it gets a 2nd season great, if not, that’s life.
    There is in fact 10 “European countries” on the list below.

    Community is 16 episodes away from 100. NBC be insane not to renew it for syndication purposes. Sony is ruthless with their syndication package deals, and I predict will cut a deal with NBC to get Community to that number at the last minute like they did Rules of Engagement. I mean, it took Rules of Engagement 7 seasons to get to the magic number, so Sony will demand Community get to that number too.

    @janice
    Sorry that’s 11 European countries, counting error, my bad……
    Also you can see by the list in all countries it has prime time airing, not early afternoon or late at night……..just sayin

  • Immaculate

    @Janice is lying. It’s clear he/she is just another member of the anti-BatB contingent, because no one ever says something as stupid as “I AM form Europe and i ASSURE you no one here has ever even heard of BATB..” as if her anonymous assurance means anything and they speak for everyone.

  • Brian

    B&TB still UP, not much of an adjustment down at all.. !Screw the Haters!

  • Justin121

    Not into fantasy schedules but… I could see CW doing the following:

    Monday: new drama – Supernatural

    Tuesday: Dixie – Beast

    Wendesday: Arrow – new drama

    Thursday: Vampire – new drama (The Originals)

    Firday: Nikita – Top Model/reality/repeats

  • Jonny C…. formerly Jon

    All I have to say to BatB fans…..Secret Circle did better ( I doubt that that show ever loss more than 60% of TVD leadin like this show) o don’t be surprised if it doe get cancelled. That being said…there’ now a def chance it getting renewed and moved to another night ( Friday???) cuz I’m pretty sure the Originals are taking that spot. Can’t wait to see the ratings drop when that happens.

  • Dell

    Grey’s was up against a boring basketball game not to mention this is Spring Break. Of course the ratings were going to rise. Let’s see how it does when POI returns.

  • Claudia

    For the TSC fans still mourning their show, BATB is not TSC, current bubble shows are not doing the same as they were last year, This is 2013 not 2012, so lets all move on. Whatever the CW decides to do thats up to them, they are the network executives they know better what is profitable and what is not…we as fans can only support the shows we like…
