Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts the network's decision on renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2012-13 season in May, 2013. (includes results from December 31, 2012- March 24, 2013):

Program Status Renew/ Cancel Index
Cult  0.38
90210 canceled 0.50
Emily Owens, M.D.* canceled 0.54
Gossip Girl* final season complete 0.61
Nikita (F) :) :) :) :) 0.61
The Carrie Diaries   0.76
Hart Of Dixie :) :) :) :) 0.91
Beauty And The Beast :| :| :| 0.93
Supernatural renewed 1.49
Arrow renewed 1.61
Vampire Diaries renewed 1.94

Beauty & The Beast ratings ticked up a tenth last week. Better than the alternative, but not enough to have the cancellation bear change his prediction.

As noted last week, the biggest thing the show has going for a second season is simply the fact that were Beauty & The Beast canceled, along with Cult and The Carrie Diaries as currently predicted, the CW would only have 5 hours of "veteran" scripted shows for next Fall, and they've never begun a 10 hour Fall schedule with fewer than 6. In this case, the trend is Beauty & The Beast's friend.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

@Jared BatB will only get a 13 episode order though

  • Charmed

Amy B.Harris, the executive producer of The Carrie Diaries, is talking about season 2 like its confirmed. Maybe she has been told it will be renewed? Anyway it seems like a good sign.

I love beauty and the beast maybe changing the slot to friday would get more views and would also always other adults to watch it due to having it fall on a weekend apot

  • Maria

I agree with those who have said that at this point CW might as well just clean house, it’s obvious that Pedowitz wants to turn CW into a nerd sci-fi channel.

  • MacKenzie

    Melanie said

    Hart of Dixie
    Beauty and the Beast
Midseason –one of these two goes to Friday to live out the rest of its broadcast life and a new show — The Selection maybe, premieres”

Somehow I doubt if they do that to Hart of Dixie, if HOD is renewed for a 3rd one, a 4th one is pretty much guaranteed just like it was for Nikita

  • MacKenzie

I seriously doubt if they will clean house, that is too much of a risky move.

  • Celia Franco

Beauty and the beast é o melhor seriado do CW! Só se enlouquecerem vão tirá-lo do ar!!! Queremos uma segunda temporada!!! No Brasil, só dá BATB!!!!

  • masha

they should keep beautya and the beast cw show. Its a great show. I love it :)

  • Beastie

BATB HAS TO BE RENEWED!!!!! We won Best new drama and due to a poll it is the BEST show on CW!!!! CW Will you wake up!!!!!???? BATB is one of your best shows!!! At least they are taking into consideration how good the show i before they do anything. Come on Beaties!!! WE SHALL FIGHT FOREVER

    I love Arrow too :)

  • Buffy

Come on give me a break. The CW has to renew Beauty & The Beast. My God, if the renewed Hart of Dixie, a really stupid show, I don’t know why they would think of cancelling BATB. It’s such a good show and has everything, you just can’t get bored with it. TVD has gotten pretty boring and has been on too long so if anything they should cancel TVD. They want to start out with a brand new show “The Originals” so get rid of TVD. Enough of this vampire stuff, it’s really old. Nikita got renewed and that show isn’t any better than BATB. So let’s put your foot to the medal CW, and RENEW BATB. Your fans are counting on seeing this show back for another season – you just can’t leave us hanging.

I LOVE this show…It may not be Shakespeare, but it`s just as good as any other show on CW network…Or TV for that matter…Jeez at least give it another season…Geeesh!!!!
