Robert's rejiggered his prediction table and reduced the number of distinct prediction categories. That has several advantages.

One disadvantage though is that small prediction changes are no longer able to be headlined. That's less of a problem for him, he only comes up with one headline a week. The Cancellation Bear has to come up with five.

That's why The Cleveland Show finally moves from "likely to be canceled" to "certain to be canceled" this week.

Next week, the bear has another trick up his sleeve.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I fear Bones will move to Friday (next season) after last night’s numbers. :(

  • Owen

@beth One bad outing will not force a move. Overall Bones is performing decent for FOX.

  • Lucas

The Following should not have been renewed so early :(

  • Ryan Schwartz

FOX has much bigger fish to fry. BONES isn’t one of them. I wouldn’t worry about any potential time slot switch.

“The Following should not have been renewed so early”

Nonsense. Fox’s scripted show average has crashed to such an extent that a 2 rating (and probably less by the end of the season) is a lock for renewal.

  • JacobYates

    @Lucas
The scripted average for FOX shows is a 1.9 (last I heard) Following wouldn’t even be on the bubble with a 1.9. The 2.3 rating was likely due to the Voice and DWTS. It went up two tenths in the half hours. Truste, Following would be renewed with these ratings even if it already hadn’t.

  • JacobYates

    Trust me*

  • Ralph Hartman

I do find it odd that Fox has renewed all their other animated shows while The Cleveland Show is there just waiting

  • were123

“The bear has another trick on its sleeve” Is that moving Glee to likely renewal?

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

“I do find it odd that Fox has renewed all their other animated shows while The Cleveland Show is there just waiting”

Why is that odd? There will be no announcement about The Cleveland Show, other than the fact that it won’t appear on next season’s schedule.

    That’s how the game works.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

“The bear has another trick on its sleeve” Is that moving Glee to likely renewal?

The bear does not pre-reveal his tricks, but it won’t be that. Glee is a lock for renewal.

  • lll

    @Ralph Hartman
When the Cleveland Show is just there waiting for renewal while the other animated comedies get it, that is a bad sign. It should have been renewed already to prepare for the upcoming season. Instead the Cleveland show will be renewed long enough to air the remaining episodes. Then FOX will pull the plug.

  • THE OLD MAN

Keep those tricks secret for a real reveal treat! Unless it’s The Mob Doctor is uncanceled, I’ll be waiting with baited breath.

  • Bazza

@Bill Gorman is that official about the Cleveland Show or just an assumption, if there is more episode left over from the last production season it may be in the next season shedule.

  • Sarah

I hope Fox moves Bones to any other night, except Friday, next season, but I know it won’t happen.

  • PurpleDrazi

Awww…that’s the best bear picture yet Bill! It adds a little bit of interest to this otherwise boring Fox Index.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

“@Bill Gorman is that official about the Cleveland Show or just an assumption, if there is more episode left over from the last production season it may be in the next season shedule.”

Like everything not labeled “renewed” or “canceled” it is a prediction.

  • JacobYates

I wonder if the trick could be a headline from beyond the grace. Perhaps Terra Nova, Alcatraz, or Fringe speaking to us in a Sixth Sense sort of manner. You have me on the edge if my seat Bill, you never disappoint your adoring fans.

  • Chris

    @Bazza

Cleveland is currently scheduled to air all remaining produced episodes by the middle of May. There isn’t going to be any remaining to hold over for next season.

  • Just Desserts

Fox is so boring to predict, the bear should go hibernate. :-)
