Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts the network's decision on renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2012-13 season in May, 2013. (includes results from December 31, 2012- March 24, 2013):

Program Status Renew/ Cancel Index
The Mob Doctor* canceled 0.31
Touch (F) 0.40
Fringe* (F) final season complete 0.50
Ben And Kate* canceled 0.60
The Cleveland Show  0.77
Raising Hope renewed 0.81
The Mindy Project renewed 0.84
Bob's Burgers renewed 1.04
Glee      1.10
American Dad renewed 1.11
New Girl renewed 1.12
Bones renewed 1.15
The Simpsons renewed 1.25
Family Guy renewed 1.43
The Following renewed 1.45

Robert's rejiggered his prediction table and reduced the number of distinct prediction categories. That has several advantages.

One disadvantage though is that small prediction changes are no longer able to be headlined. That's less of a problem for him, he only comes up with one headline a week. The cancellation bear has to come up with five.

That's why The Cleveland Show finally moves from "likely to be canceled" to "certain to be canceled" this week.

Next week, the bear has another trick up his sleeve.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the Fox Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I don’t understand what FOX likes about Bob’s Burgers. Its ratings are terrible and its the weak link in the animation block. FOX should just ban that show instead of American Dad to 7:30 and launch their new animation comedy at 8:30.

  • mike

they should find another channel for cleveland show to produce them

  • TVWatcher

You obviously have a short memory don’t you?

Remember how bad Allen Gregory and Napoleon Dynamite did?

  • Fourat

The cleveland show ‘s ratings are bad because they aired it at 7:30
I think that it will be renwed

  • TV Addict

Ba da da da Noooooo!! The Cleveland Show was becoming one of my favorite Fox animated shows! (Though they are all really good imo). Say what you will, but it was a great spin off that will be canceled before its time.

  • Marcos

Glee can be moved to Friday? and Bones take your time on Thursdays?

  • yusei fudo

If Glee is certain to be renewed why hasn’t it already????

  • Patrick Ausgewahlt

If I was Fox I would renewed The Cleveland Show for midseason. Keep the 6 o’clock hour all repeats during football. Air all the episodes of that horrible Bob’s Burgers and then add Cleveland back. I have grown to like The Cleveland Show more than Family Guy & American Dad! I don’t wish for it to be cancelled. At least Cleveland had just move back to Quahog

“Glee can be moved to Friday? and Bones take your time on Thursdays?”

I would love it if Bones moved back to Thursdays, especially against Grey’s, but it will never happen.

  • DM

Would Adult Swim pick up The Cleveland Show if Fox cancelled it?

  • Fake Me Out

The bears’ trick is that he will pull Christan Slater out of a hat as his show is uncanceled again … just so he can cancel it one more time because the bear has a puckish sense of humour.

    @yusei fudo

Presumably because of contract negotiations, as has been reported on other websites. Also, last year, Fox didn’t announce Glee’s renewal until the first week of April. I expect the announcement will be coming in the next couple of weeks – possibly on April 11, which is when Glee comes back from hiatus.

Although, perhaps there will be a miracle and they will get less than a 22-episode renewal. I’m ready for this show to be over.

  • Stacey

Glee’s renewal was announced in early April last year.

  • Michael

What i predict will be FOX Schedule for the 2013/14 season.. Im 90% sure this is how it will look like unless following debutes in fall…

  • E.S.

I agree with the above comments from rob60990 and Patrick Ausgewahlt, Bob’s Burgers has no buzz at all and no chance of success in syndication. FOX was stupid to renew it to begin with.

  • Herb Finn

I hope thye don’t shoehorn Cleavland back on FAMILY GUY! I hate when a spin-off fails and the characters come back – Like Enos on “Dukes of Hazzard” or Chachie and Joanie on “Happy Days”

  • Candymmann

Why are they canceling The Cleveland show?? The same writing and producers Of family guy but why isn’t it getting the same love??

  • Jim

‘Cause the lead time for these animated sliding timescale shows is long and troubling and it is unknown why. Plus, it keeps hitting all-time lows in demo and viewers. FOX is just trying to screw it over.

  • Dan S

Is it just me getting tired of all animation on Sundays ? I think the 9pm hour should be reserved for a drama or a couple comedies. With both X-Factor & AI taking up 3-4 hrs a week of primetime there are not a lot of hrs on Fox since they don’t program at 10pm.

  • Dan

Bill is right, no announcement is not unusual for animated shows, King of the Hill barely had an announcement in 2009 but luckily it got to air a finale, and back in 2002 Family Guy ended without being officially cancelled. Same with Futurama in 2003 it was never cancelled but production just ended. While its unusual that no announcement has been made by now, the fact that all 88 episodes will have aired by May and FOX has Murder Police for midseason, the schedule is full. The Cleveland Show will live on in syndication for many years and maybe Cleveland will move back to Quahog.

@Bill – Maybe a picture of Ted next time you do a Bear picture for the index as a nod to both the cancellation bear and the fact that Seth Macfarlane voices Ted and has 3 animated shows on FOX.

Let me guess next week’s headline “Glee is certain to be renewed”
