As the cancellation bear hides from predicting the renewal of any NBC sitcom save Parks & Recreation until the last possible moment, he's happy to headline the fact that Deception is certain to be canceled. That hadn't made the headline earlier. Now it has.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ie. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I feel like The New Normal will be renewed, and probably Go On too. Guys and 1600 never stood out, and Whitney and Community have had enough time to build a loyal fanbase but did not. From a long-investment point of view, Whitney and Community have decreased, but GO and TNN have potential if they work a bit on it. So I’d probably stick to these freshman comedies.

Why is “Smash” listed as canceled here? Although I think its fate is inevitable, in theory, it has simply been moved to Saturdays, but I have read nothing about it being officially cancelled yet…

Deception* was just another show to be cancelled while a long list of reality shows and lets not forget honeybooboo?!!! lingers on. what happened to entertainment. Trash is what most people want to see on tv these days. Who cares about the housewife of what ever city? I’m just so sick of who ever it is that decides to cancel some shows and leave others on. I’m at the point now that I would rather read or buy movies than to wast my time watching television.

  • Splum

    When was Smash cancelled?

  • Ogopogo

Why cancel Deception? One of only a tiny handful of shows orth turning TV on for. TV stations ar dense.

  • Ogopogo

I agree with “Faith”. Reality shows suc. So sick and tired of the sick and tired choices made. We pay for and we get —– crap.

  • tasha

Why the hell would yall cancel Deception, right when it was getting good??? WTF????

  • Tina

    Do not cancel deception

  • Diane Warner

I LOVE deception and so do all my friends. I hope they don’t cancel it!!!!

  • Missing deception

I love this show. Deception should not be cancel. Love the cast and action. SAVE THE SHOW!!!!!!

  • Carla

I love Deception!!!! It’s my favorite show! Keep it going!!!

  • Vladimir

Deception is probably the worst show I’ve seen in years. This show should’ve been part of the usual crap churned out by the WB. It’s embarrassing.

  • KHSimmons

I loved Deception and thought with more episodes and placing reruns in the right spots it would have gained more viewers and build a solid fan base. It is saved. We have too many of the same old sit com plots.

  • Victoria

I am extremely upset that deception was cancelled I watched this sitcom every week and had been looking for it to come back on until I told by my sister that it was cancelled.
