ABC FAMILY ANNOUNCES “RAVENSWOOD,” A “Pretty Little Liars” SPIN-OFF SERIES, AND PICKS UP HIT DRAMA “Pretty Little Liars” FOR A FIFTH SEASON

FROM WARNER HORIZON TELEVISION AND THE CREATIVE TEAM AT “Pretty Little Liars,” “RAVENSWOOD” WILL PREMIERE IN OCTOBER

LEVERAGING THE SOCIAL MEDIA STRENGTH OF “Pretty Little Liars,” THE ANNOUNCEMENT WAS FIRST PUSHED EXCLUSIVELY ACROSS ALL “PRETTY LITTLE LIARS” SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS WITH UNIQUE CONTENT CREATED FOR EACH SOCIAL SPACE

BURBANK, CA -- March 26, 2013 – ABC Family has greenlit the original one-hour drama series “Ravenswood,” a spin-off of their number one- rated series “Pretty Little Liars.” “Pretty Little Liars” has also been picked up for a fifth season it was announced today by Michael Riley, President ABC Family. Both series will be produced by Warner Horizon Television.

Leveraging the strength of the social media phenomenon that “Pretty Little Liars” maintains as the #1 social show on television, the announcement was first pushed exclusively across all “Pretty Little Liars” social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, GetGlue, Instagram, YouTube.com and ABCFamily.com. Content unique to each platform was created to build excitement and reveal clues about the new series to its most likely and influential fan base. New “Ravenswood” Facebook and Twitter pages were also created as a place for new fans to go.

From “Pretty Little Liars” executive producers I. Marlene King, Oliver Goldstick, Joseph Dougherty and Leslie Morgenstein, “Ravenswood” will center on a town, not far from Rosewood, PA (the home base of “Pretty Little Liars”), which has suffered under a deadly curse for generations. Five strangers suddenly find themselves connected by this fatal curse and need to dig into the town's mysterious and terrible history before it's too late for each of them. The series will premiere on ABC Family following the annual “Pretty Little Liars” special Halloween episode in October 2013.

“’Pretty Little Liars’ is brand-defining and demo-defining for ABC Family. We are proud to be able to grow the ‘PLL’ franchise in two ways – both by adding additional seasons of the original and by extending the storytelling into a spin-off. ‘Ravenswood’ will become another ‘must-tweet-TV’ series for us,” said Riley. Kate Juergens, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Development, ABC Family added, “’Pretty Little Liars’ has maintained the #1 spot in its cable time period in all core women demos since its premiere in 2010 with fans who are passionate, loyal, social and mobile. ‘Ravenswood’ will have plenty of mystery, drama, friendships and suspense that will inspire the same dedication from its fans. We are very excited about both series.”

“Our viewers have an incredible ability to amplify messages and create buzz around things that interest them, including our shows and talent,” said Riley. “In fact, during the season three finale, our viewers made ‘Pretty Little Liars’ the first series episode to amass over 1 million Total airtime Tweets in TV history, accounting for one-third of all Twitter activity in the hour. Many of them also became fans of our new summer drama ‘Twisted,’ which aired as a special sneak peek after the spring finale of ‘Pretty Little Liars.’ With this in mind, we felt it best to announce directly to our passionate and loyal fan base with content unique to the social platforms they visit and let them do what they do best -- which is to amplify and engage with our news.”

    WHAT ABOUT BUNHEADS

  • MrPierreMazz

That’s great news! I’m shure that the new PLL season will be amazing… and its spin off too!! <3

  • halloween

PLL is a convoluted mess of a show

  • DM

    I’m excited!

But ABC Family needs to be careful about those early season pickups. When Secret Life started failing in season 4 they were already locked in for season 5 so they were stuck with it.

  • Dillan

This is obviously no shock, but I’m surprised ABC Family is renewing shows for further seasons before the previous season has even aired.

The spin-off could be interesting. I’m annoyed the press release doesn’t give us much information on it.

I hope TLG is renewed soon!

  • Charles

Oh my God. I love the show but I think this next season would be the final. I can’t take it all the “mistery”. Hope season 4 bring the hope I used to have with the show. In other hand, bye bye, PLL.

  • rob60990

The finale was pretty terrible. Hope it improves next season.

The pick up of a spinoff is very bad news for The Lying Game. :D

  • Nikki

I figured it would be picked up for a 5th season. But the spinoff doesnt sound very promising. Where are the other press releases for pick ups. Its getting close to the end here.. shouldnt we hear about Bunheads and The lying game soon.

  • Sara

Picked up for the fifth season before the fourth has premiered. ‘Ravenswood’ is already trending on Twitter. This show has a STRONG fanbase. The fifth will probably (and should) be the final season.

  • PARIS

    OH MY GOD

    ANOTHER TRASH SHOW COMING?

AMERICAN TELEVISION IS GETTING WORST EVERY YEAR.

STOP WATCHING THESE CRAP, PEOPLE. COME ON!

  • Micah

NO! This show needs a set end date like LOST. It’s just going to drag on forever and lose its mystery and charm. The last season was pushing it already.

  • Dave

    TLG cancelled in 3, 2, 1 :D

  • Dave

I’m also a bit annoyed that there’s no details on Ravenswood

  • John A

I didnt know a spin off was happening. First thought i had was TLG is in trouble. The quality of PLL will be well gone by season 5.

  • Damiker

That sucks… ABCF needs more variety & what works for PLL may not work with similar formatted shows.

  • Just Desserts

    this is nice

  • Dave

PLL gets a Season 5 because the network wants 100 episodes. It doesn’t matter if the quality is down by then. The fact that people are considering for the show to end after Season 4 is hilarious when Secret Life has had 100 episodes and 5 seasons.

  • Ryan

Soo excited about this. Just hope we start getting some answers on PLL.

  • Michael

    Renew Switched At Birth already!

  • Dillan

After reading about Ravenswood, the show has nothing to do with PLL, except for the fact that it takes place in a town near Rosewood..
