MIAMI – MARCH 27, 2013 – Univision Deportes, the sports arm of Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today announced that its live coverage of the World Cup Qualifier featuring the Mexican National Team against the U.S. National Team ranks as the highest-rated telecast ever on UniMás, beating the record previously held by the CONCACAF Copa Oro (Gold Cup) match between Mexico and Guadeloupe on June 21, 2007.
In a highly-anticipated match that concluded with a 0-0 draw, the broadcast of Mexico vs. USA reached 7.8 million viewers who tuned in to all or part the broadcast on UniMás. Airing LIVE from the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico on Tuesday, March 26 from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET, the Mexico vs. USA World Cup Qualifier averaged 4.8 million Total Viewers 2+, 2.9 million Adults 18-49 and 1.6 million Adults 18-34. In fact, the match on UniMás ranked as the No. 3 program, regardless of language, on all of television during primetime among Adults 18-34.
On the night, the World Cup Qualifier also helped UniMás beat Telemundo by double-digit percentages: by +38% among Total Viewers 2+, by +46% among Adults 18-49 and by +51% for Adults 18-34.
The match between Mexico and USA made UniMás the No. 1 Spanish-language broadcast station during the time period in the following markets among:
- Total Viewers 2+ in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento
- Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento
Additionally, the World Cup Qualifier on UniMás was the No. 1 broadcast program of the day (6 a.m. to 2 a.m.) in the following markets among:
- Total Viewers 2+ in Los Angeles and Houston
- Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Houston, San Francisco and Sacramento
The World Cup Qualifier on UniMás is the No. 1 program (since daily data has become available*) on the following local stations:
- Total Viewers 2+ in Los Angeles, Houston, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento
