CBS RENEWS 18 PRIMETIME SHOWS FOR THE 2013-2014 SEASON

Returning Series Showcase the Ratings Success and Programming Depth of Television's

#1 Network in Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54

CBS announced today it has renewed 18 returning series from television's top-rated lineup for the 2013-2014 broadcast season.

The mass renewals showcase the strength and stability of television's leading network among viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54.  This season, CBS is home to the #1 program/drama (NCIS), the #1 comedy (The Big Bang Theory),  the #1 new series (Elementary) and the #1 newsmagazine (60 Minutes).

The renewals, comprising 16 hours of its primetime schedule, include four comedies, nine dramas, three reality series and two newsmagazines.  The returning shows encompass every night of the week and every hour, many of which rank #1 in their time period and some which rank #1 for the entire night.

The renewed comedies include the previously announced The Big Bang Theory, the final season of How I Met Your Mother as well as 2 Broke Girls and MIKE & MOLLY.

Among the returning dramas are the previously announced NCIS, television's #1 program and top drama for the fourth consecutive year, and the time period-winning CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION.

Other dramas renewed include NCIS: LOS ANGELES, the #2 drama for the third straight year; Person Of Interest, the fastest-growing show on network television; Elementary, the season’s most-watched new program; as well as Hawaii Five-0, THE Mentalist, Blue Bloods and THE Good Wife.

The Network's three Emmy Award-winning reality series — THE Amazing Race, SURVIVOR and Undercover Boss — also return with new editions.

    @Angel

“Person Of Interest will be the No1 drama not Elementary. God i wish people and CBS get their bloody facts right.”

Care to explain where CBS got their bloody facts wrong. Could you possible find anywhere above where CBS asserts that Elementary is number 1 in a category where Person of Interest should be?

    I suspect not.

    The Mentalist!!!! Yayy!

  • Lynn

Happy that H5-0 was renewed. Now if only CBS would hire a new show runner and better writers, the show might have a chance at a long life. The first season was a winner. Great stories and good acting. Then went downhill from there. It has the potential of being a good show if only they would just get their act together. I will watch hopefully not the last season but really want them to improve. Love that TGW and Blue Bloods were renewed.

I’m really disappointed about the comedy pilot carnage this season.
CBS has 6 really good sitcom pilots that could all make it to air, but it seems there will be 3/4 at most (if they expand and premier one midseason or something).

Such a shame, that the rest of the comedy pilots elsewhere seem turgid in comparison.

In light of so many renewals I fervently hope the proposed NCIS Red doesn’t get picked up. There are too many good pilots needing a home & only so many hrs. I would hate to see a show like Intelligence not get picked up in favor of Red.

WONDERFUL NEWS FOR THE GOOD WIFE!

One of the BEST tv shows on network tv.

I guess VEGAS is toast…no fear! I believe SARAH JONES will have no problem finding work.

    GB needs to be pulled.

  • Samunto

Sooo happy for The Good Wife.

I hear you girl and I agree with you about H50. I love the show, but not for it’s writting because this is pretty weak. Unfortunately Peter Lenkov made lots of mistakes and didn’t care about fans reaponse. This guy should be fired immediately, because he has too much lower over the show and too many stupid ideas!!! As for other CBS shows, I am glad to hear Elementary, Person of interest and The good wife have been renewed.

    @ psychic

Anthony E. Zuiker said he was thinking of CSI: Paris with Jean Reno and Marion Cotillard as the lead characters. It would be cool !

  • Michelle

So happy for my favorite CBS shows that have been renewed!!! Wish CSI:NY was on that list, but I know that is not very likely. I enjoyed it while it was on. I can’t wait to see the new CBS lineup for next season :)

  • Paul Watson

Please move The Mentalist to another night… I’m sick and tired of it being pushed off when some sports event lasts longer than the network allowed for. Right before “Blue Bloods” might be good.

Congratulations to all the CBS shows now renewed, and to all the ecstatically happy viewers who will be watching their favorite shows again next season! My personal favorites were also renewed – I guess the drama now is, where will they all fall into the new CBS schedule! H50 being my favorite, I’d personally like to see it stay on Monday or move to Tuesday, but I’ll follow it where ever it goes! Also very happy for POI. (I really hope NCIS:RED does not get picked up – not enjoyable at all!)

@Lynn @Ateofi: The great cast of HF-0 is being wasted. The writers have run out of plotlines and the stories are now repetitive and, at least for me, even the carguments are getting old.
I agree there should have been new showrunners, even during the first season, which was uneven IMO. Why would the network have even accepted
Peter Lenkov’s goofy concept for this show. I would never have wanted this version to be like the original, the new is much more fun, but some sense of reality would have been nice. I think that’s why HF-0 has lost much of it’s audience.
The task force should be operating like a legitimate law-enforcement entity. We’ll never see any of the team members testifying in court, because many of their cases would never make it to trial, considering how loosely they operate.
I’d like to see HF-0 last at least seven seasons, though I’d like Alex to have a movie career, as he’s my favourite. If CBS doesn’t slot the show in one of the graveyard spots next season, we might have an indication of their plans. They don’t seem to care very much, as they promote it much less than their other dramas. A new showrunner could be a step in the right direction, if the network has long-term goals.
Now though, I just enjoy the things I like about the show, the beauty of Hawaii, the appealing cast, and playdown the negative aspects.

To put it bluntly, that’s the most ridiculous and stupidest schedule I’ve ever seen.

What was so “ridiculous” and “stupid” about my CBS sked?

Oh, that is right, you have a sheep mentality! Now I understand!

Gotta say I’m rather surprised about both good wife and mentalist both getting picked up. Makes expanded comedy hours less likely. What are the chances CBS might announce a couple new comedies and maybe even a drama on Saturday, like they did with ROE a couple years ago? Thoughts? Discussion?

  • lakersupbyten

Five-0 is good where it is on Mondays…no need to move it. Plus it compliments the comedies. Though would like to see the show push on to season 7…maybe to 12.. if the stars want to stay that long. It is one of the rare shows that can have fun and be dramatic like Magnum PI. I am so glad they made it to season 4. Season 5 hopefully will be a great one too…if it comes to pass. The Hawaiian state really supports this show.

Personally, I think “Hawaii Five-0″ is much better this season than last season and the later half of season 1.
I loved “Five-0″ at first, but it started to lose it towards the end of the first season (though, the finale was great).
And season 2 had a good start, but I quickly grew bored of it and almost stopped watching it.
However, I’m loving this season. It’s a major improvement over last season, and I’m now looking forward to 10PM on Mondays. Also, the addition of Michelle Borth to the main cast is what made me even decide to stick with the show. Glad I did.

What is so “AWFUL” about my CBS sked? Is it the fact that I am not of the sheep mentality!? That I am properly aggressive!?
