Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    Again I feel compelled to ask what metric you (or anyone else) is using to definitively state that any given hour is the most or second most competitive hour of the week. If you’re going to throw around statements like that you should probably have some grasp of the criteria being used because unlike most watched its not something easily or simply measured. For the record I’d be concerned about citing Spotted Ratings where there seems to be some confusion about what the words objective and subjective mean.

    @bjssp

    My bad. Not now. next season if they want to go one more time with result shows.

  • Sapphire

    BATB needs to stay on the air, freaking show gets better as the weeks go on :)

    @bjssp

    ASK ERIDAPO he has all info and will give it to you. he is a friend.

  • methix0r

    hope TVD will adjust up , it should

  • Joseph

    Fox should consider resting “American Idol” for a couple of years and bring it back for the 2015/2016 TV season with a new host(ess), new judges, and a significantly-changed format.

  • Ally

    Yes! BatB is holding steady!
    Yea yea, another beastie here… and i think the cw would be crazy to cancel it, they should move it 2 tuesdays after #HoD and it will get the same ratings bc thats how dedicated the fans are.. plus we all know the CW is gonna most likely have ‘The Originals’ air after TVD…
    Another reason it should be renewed? The CW is low on good shows.. #TVD, #Arrow, & #SPN are all great and then its #HoD & #BatB .. if the cancel #BatB then they had better be REALLY confident in the pilots they pick up.. & i doubt they are feeling all too confident about them (besides TheOriginals)..
    Lastly, Beauty and the Beast is honestly getting a lot better every episode.. and i’m so glad that more people are starting 2 realize that & give it a second chance. ;)
    Ok done with my rant.. Fingers crossed it returs with higher ratings!

    @ Alex

    repeating yourself over and over when Melissa posted facts. You stated that Revenge does not have a competitive time slot. I do not seeScandal airing opposite the biggest show on TV, Downton Abby the Bible or events such as the Golden Globes, Grammys and NFC. If you do not think this is a factor in its decline than obviously you are daft. Nothing more to say. How anyone can compare Thursday at 10 PM with Sunday at 9PM in terms of competition is just mind boggling. Your obviously deluded and do not deserve a reply.

    “On Thursday isn’t NBC a Peacock network, but a Backed Turkey.”

    I assume you mean a baked turkey. More like a wild turkey; one or two bright spots (Voice, Revolution, Sunday Night Football), and a host of bloody spots (too many to name).

  • Anon

    Those NBC numbers are just a flatline. The patient twitched at 10PM, but it was just a twitch. The patient is dead.

    “Fox should consider resting “American Idol” for a couple of years and bring it back for the 2015/2016 TV season with a new host(ess), new judges, and a significantly-changed format.”

    I suggested that once before, minus the retirement part. Not only should they replace the host and judges, but they should get rid of the ENTIRE front office (Cecile Frot-Coutaz, Ken Warwick and Nigel Lythgoe among them).

  • CookyMonzta

    And if that don’t work, THEN you retire the show.

  • CookyMonzta

    @Joseph: My bad. I have trouble with small print. You said “resting”, not “retiring”.

  • Mike

    Glad to see Idol continue to fall. The arrogance of the folks behind it last year is coming back to bite them in the butt. The Voice is by far the best show as far as the talent. And the judges are by far the best. Go The Voice.

  • Mickey

    @Melissa

    If Beauty and the Beast can maintain 0.6+, I think it will be renewed.

    I was going to say the exact same thing. The problem the CW faces is that, if the last couple of years are anything to go by, odds are its new shows won’t fare any better than BatB, and there’s a good chance they’ll fare worse. Even Arrow, which premiered at 1.3, is now whittling down to 0.9-1.0s.

    Logically, they’ll want to premiere The Originals behind TVD, and they need fodder for Fridays (with no veteran shows in line to be retired there), and BatB is actually a decent pairing with Nikita, so I’m betting that’s what will happen. Then they may give it another couple seasons for syndication, à la Nikita.

    I gave up on BatB after the first couple of episodes, but I’ve heard it has gotten a lot better, so if it’s renewed I’ll give it another shot.

    Excuses Excuses people all was talking about the competion Revenge has and the other shows on tv, don’t either and they do just fine,they haven’t lose viewers because their shows haven’t went down in quality and comparing it to scandal just shows jealous, we still have better ratings then you, even if they move it, keep hating haters.

  • Sam

    B&B. a 0.6 !!!! Cool.
    Go Beasties !! Go !! Roar !

  • Franamado

    Beauty and the Beast came through again with a great episode last night. Action, an emotional roller coaster ride, and suspense was the order of the day. If you are not watching this show you are missing out. If you stopped watching, come back. You will love the direction it is heading in.

  • Nathan

    @imadiva
    As Much as I LOVE Scandal, if ABC moved this show to any other time slot, it would experience a HUGE decline. As others have stated, ABC should not even dare think about moving this show.

  • Claudia

    @ Mickey many people that stop watching the show at the beginning have come back, Ive watch it all along so Ill be biased to tell you how good it is going, at least last night episode was so good and its heading into a new direction ala Nikita with the Beast element, IMO its an amazing show!
