Due to the nature of live  programming the ratings for CBS (NCAA Basketball tournament) are approximate and subject to more than the typical adjustments in the final numbers. See below for more information on these Fast Affiliate Ratings.

CBS and ABC tied for number 1 in adults 18-49 while FOX won with Total Viewers.

NOTE: Versus last week, A18-49 usage was down -7% from 8-10p and -8% in the 8-9pm hour  last night.

On FOX,  American Idol scored a 2.7, down two tenths from last week's 2.9 adults 18-49 rating. This is the lowest Adults 18-49 rating ever for any Idol, any night. A one-hour Raising Hope earned a 1.3 from 9-10PM. Two half hour episodes earned a 1.4 at 9PM and a 1.2 at 9:30PM. Both are down from its last original's 1.5, which aired a month ago.

On ABC, Wife Swap garnered a 1.4, down three tenths from last week's 1.7 adults 18-49 rating.  Grey's Anatomy earned a 2.8, down two tenths from last week's 3.0 adults 18-49 rating. Scandal earned a 2.6, down a single tenth from last week's 2.7 adults 18-49 rating.

On CBS, the NCAA Tournament earned a preliminary 2.3  adults 18-49 rating from 8-11PM, but as noted are likely to be adjusted in the final ratings, and only cover the primetime portion of the telecasts.

On NBC, two episodes of 1600 Penn scored a series lows 0.7 at both 8:30 and 9:30, both down from last week's 0.9 adults 18-49 rating.

On The CW, The Vampire Diaries earned a 1.2, down a single tenth from last week's 1.3 adults 18-49 rating.  Beauty and the Beast was even with last week's 0.6 adults 18-49 rating.

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Good to see that Beauty maintained a .6 especially just about everything went down on thursday. Hope it doesn’t get adjusted down.

scandal without competition 2.6 ouch? @ bigflop

lmao open your eyes yesterday was technically a friday alot of people

went out since many things are closed today

  • Bee

lol people and their competition remarks. its already been proven that greys and scandal depend on their success/merits and are unaffected by other networks being in repeats or originals.

  • Brandy

VD was great last night, too bad it’s down but hopefully it adjusts up.BATB was good too, hopefully it dosent adjust down.BATB I could really see going either way as far as renwal or cancellation , well see how it does after another hiatus.SC didn’t crash til April after coming back from a 2-3 hiatus(though it did decline all season).

  • BigFlop

only you can deny it!!! Castle and H50 are a tough COMPETITION for Rev., what about cable competition on Mondays??!?!?!?! WTF, you know what Scandal competition is —–>>> THE BED, people slept and was bored with last night episode!!

  • BrieK

What was Revolution’s lead-in again? Exactly.

  • MichaelChickless

That rating for The Following on Monday is starting to look a lot better!

  • david

Good for TVD and good to see Beauty and the Beast steady. Last night was great. A great episode of the show.

  • Carl

I hope this might teach these talent shows not to just assume you’re going to get big numbers because a once mega-popular singer signs on to your show. It’s mostly a waste of money. Hard to believe that the only one who ever worked out for FOX in recent years was J-Lo. And it looks like she was smart enough to go at the right time.

  • Layton

The NCAA tourney effected the ratings. There was also two games on TBS. Combined I am sure they had more ratings than anything else.

  • kbmv

You guys actually think getting different judges will help Idol’s ratings? It won’t happen. The show is just getting old. They can bring Michael Jackson back to life and sit him in the judges chair and the ratings would still be low.

  • Lily

BATB is a flop and deserves to be cancelled.

  • zth

Wow, American Idol is embarrassingly low, and with basically zero competition. Just imagine if The Big Bang Theory aired this week.

Next week’s prediction for American Idol:
    Wednesday: 2.9
    Thursday: 2.3

  • Vanessa

That is sad Grey’s and POI was not even on.

  • zth

@Layton: I’m pretty sure that all the airings of NCAA games last night didn’t do as good as TBBT would have done.

  • Joseph

I know many people here think idol will be cancelled but I highly doubt that- these ratings aren’t slaughtering others but try are still good enough ratings for fox- it’s still their highest rated program. Also, realistically, whatever FOX would put in as a replacement for idol would most likely do worse and would be slaughtered by TBBT anyway.

  • Ash

Were you there at all those people’s houses to see if they turned off Scandal and went to bed? ….Didn’t think so ;)

  • To Bookworm

Apparently you are under the belief that the only potential competition exists on network television.

  • Tom

Bad news for the Beastlings: Unless it adjusts up, B&B has returned to what I previously described as its default rating – 0.6/150MM. Considering that NBC capitulated and Fox substituted low rated RH for Glee, things are looking even more bleak. Plus, the 2.3 for basketball on CBS is still 0.6 less than POI received for its last show. B&B only has 5 programs left to air. Two in April; three in May. The way its going, I’d say B&B is rapidly headed for a TSC- style melt down. That should be enough to get the Beastlings’ bloomers in a bunch.

  • zth

AI won’t be cancelled this year for sure. But it might hit the 1’s for some of their results shows as it’s constantly losing 2-3 tenths for every results show.
