    i would’ve like for HBO to show season 1. if they did, i might get into GoT, now i can’t and probably won’t subscribe. thanks hbo!

  • Chris

    Minor detail: pretty sure that GoT has started in most countries this weekend so the total initial audience is probably pushing 100 million.

    I don’t understand why people are complaining about GOT’s rating, it’s a SERIES HIGH! on easter sunday and up against the finale’s of the walking dead and the bible, what more can you ask for?

    My DirecTV and my brother’s Time-Warner Cable each had free HBO this weekend so that may account for some of the extra viewers. I was thrilled to get to watch not only this season’s premiere, but also a marathon of Season 2 that preceded it!

    It’s been available on DVD/BR for over a year now…

    @PurpleDrazi
    HBO has 1/3 of the customers other cable channels have, because it’s a premium cable channel and doesn’t come with the bundle. So, 4.4m viewers is like 13.2m viewers for the walking dead. So, yeah, its awesome if you know the facts.

    And last night’s episode was all about developing the story a little for the storm that is coming ahead. We don’t want a Blackwater every week, do we? Love the way they moved all the important characters in a single episode. Great storytelling.

    Actually, they left out Arya, Bran, Theon and Jaime. Too many stories to fit into 55 minutes. :)

    I thought “ratings” didn’t matter for HBO #GIRLS?

  • JD

    Ratings don’t matter as much to HBO, but they are a sign that subscribers are interested in a program, and the attention Thrones gets can signals that more people are subscribing to watch it. As for the ratings, Thrones will easily beat this number again this season, now with Walking Dead gone and it being Easter. Can`t wait for episode nine…

    This is nice!

    What are the odds GoT hits 5 million in one airing by the. End of the season? I think it can

  • Justin

    “Big let down. Even with the competition I thought it would have hit 5 million easily. That said, the premiere wasn’t really much fun anyway. Felt like more of the same.”

    “EDIT: I liked the episode and this season looks promising. Vast improvement over terrible season 2 but still season 1?s best IMO.”

    As someone who has read the books this season and the next season are going to turn the world upside down. There wasn’t a lot happening in the first episode but, the books rarely have huge events them in the first few chapters they just establish or re-establish story lines. Not sure what will all happen in this season but, a lot happens in the third book so expect big things.
