This is a special short week version of the post. The table above includes news and ratings through Wednesday, March 27. only.

No changed predictions from the Cancellation Bear this week (although the bear has his eye on Body Of Proof for next week), he's soaking up the sun, but it's your chance to be the bear.

Which ABC show(s) not currently renewed or canceled would you devour? (Vote for as many shows, as many times as you want. As are all internet polls, this is meaningless.)

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, the "old" Fall predictions will carry over.

Want to know what the ABC Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    stay away from Nashville!

  • Justin

    The Neighbors

  • Interesting…

Interesting to see MC at 9.75% while Suburgatory is at 2%.

Through 25 weeks, Live+SD for these shows (and their lead-ins):
    Suburgatory:
    6.278 Million viewers (54% of Modern Family’s 11.567)
    2.3 A18-49 (51% of MF’s 4.5)

    Malibu Country:
    6.092 Million viewers (89% of Last Man Standing’s 6.821)
    1.3 A18-49 (87% of LMS’s 1.5)

How can Nashville be renewed it rates low with a big lead in???

  • Bee

SAVE NASHVILLE! please ABC. it’s all i need now considering what you did to HE. i hope HTLYWP is a good lead-in for it tomorrow. it’s not dead yet. heck, even BOP with its zero buzz and 1.2 premiere is coming back to life thanks to the right lead-in.

and scandal this year showed that any show on the verge of breaking out can actually do it with the proper treatment combined with the right episodes. if it was up to the people on this site, scandal would have been cancelled last spring or at least moved timeslots this spring/not been given a full season. thank goodness some of you don’t run the network (not that they’re geniuses either lol).

nashville can still make it. it feels so close to it. i think the best thing to do would be to give it a 13-episode second season like scandal to see how it does and then give a full season depending on how it does.

  • James

HE is one of my favorite shows on tv but from every logical standpoint does nothing for ABC. To avoid more torture to fans like myself and keep the show of the air for months I say rip the bandaid and pull it. oh and red widow can go to albeit for different reasons.

  • Bee

    jonay,

what big lead-in? lol suburgatory is a sitcom that does high 1.0s/low 2.0s.

  • Sky

When does ABC usually announce its renewals?

  • Justin121

Actually if Revenge does a few more sub-1.7 ratings, I think there’s a very real chance it gets cancelled.

See: The Secret Circle, GCB, for end-of-season downward trend cancellations.

Now, Revenge has the benefit of being a 2nd year show over these two.

But see also: Life Unexpected, Terminator: Sara Chonor, Dollhouse, V (and yes, even Body of Prood; being a procedural gave the opposite result, i.e. renewal).

  • Rebecca

    @Sky
If they announce anything early, it’s up to them so we don’t know when they’ll do it. But their upfronts (when they’ll announce their fall schedule) are May 14th in the afternoon (NY).

  • RJ

I really recommend that everyone try to catch up on the Neighbors. I hated it as well but I stuck with it and now I think it’s hilarious. It definitely has the potential to becoming a cult comedy :)

  • Joe

Last Man Standing, because it’s absolutely dreadful.

  • Rebecca

I only watch HE, LMS, OUAT, Castle, The Middle, The Neighbors and MF on ABC – so I’d like those to survive. I’ll check out How To Live and Family Tools when they air.

  • frodo

They will only cancel Red Window and unfortunately Happy Endings. Malibu will get renewed and revamped as it did not do bad for a Friday. Neighbors will be renewed and probably moved on Fridays, where it could do well.
Body of Proof is a toss up, its been doing better lately and could get another season.

  • E35

Why is ABC so damn slow in announcing its renewals? Its frustrating considering the fact that the majority of the shows i watch are ABC :/

  • Rebecca

    @RJ
I second that. I caught up on The Neighbors after it had already aired 7 or 8 episodes…well worth it.

  • frodo

    @Justin 121

I do not see Revenge being canceled its just not plausible. And I do not see it going below a 1.8 for the rest of the season(only 4 episodes left). This Sunday it had a horrible lead in of 0.6, no promotion and faced the Walking Dead finale with a record 6.4 demo, the Bible finale with a 3.0, Game of Thrones premiere with a 2.4, Amazing Race with a 2.3 and the Good Wife with a 1.5. It was also Easter weekend.

I actually think it will rise up for the last 4 episodes as the Walking Dead is gone, the Bible is gone, Shameless will be gone, Kim and Kourtney will be gone and the Good wife is ending in April. Revenge should be around the 1.9-2.2 range.

  • MaryAnn

I don’t understand why Red Widow is not getting better ratings. It is edge-of-the seat drama, very gripping and compelling.

That said, I would like to recommend that anyone who has not seen Body of Proof this year check it out. It is much more suspenseful and faster paced, and all around a much better show than before the revamp. (It doesn’t help any that the previews don’t reflect the changes at all, making it look just like the episodes from previous seasons.

  • Anthony Parello (AP076)

Just taking a quick look at last year it appears ABC waited until Upfronts (May 10th) to even announce their slam dunk renewals like Grey’s Anatomy, Once Upon a Time and Modern Family. As opposed to CBS which did their’s last year in March.

  • Alecia

If Nashville keeps falling ABC should cancel it but if it gets renew it should be retooled. I’ve watched every episode up until the last one when I changed the channel half way through. I wanted to like the show because of Hayden P. and Johnathan Jackson but it’s just not happening. The combination of Juliette learning a lesson every week, Reyna and Deacon being passive aggressive, Avery on the outside watching Scarlett with her bad weave is freaking ridiculous.
