This is a special short week version of the post. The table above includes news and ratings through Wednesday, March 27. only.

No changed predictions from the Cancellation Bear this week (although the bear has his eye on Body Of Proof for next week), he's soaking up the sun, but it's your chance to be the bear.

Which ABC show(s) not currently renewed or canceled would you devour? (Vote for as many shows, as many times as you want. As are all internet polls, this is meaningless.)

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, the "old" Fall predictions will carry over.

Want to know what the ABC Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @E35
Why is ABC so damn slow in announcing its renewals? Its frustrating considering the fact that the majority of the shows i watch are ABC

How would ABC announcing early renewals ease your frustration? Typically, the only shows that get early renewals are the ones that will obviously be renewed anyways.

  • Mal

    @MaryAnn

    Because it sucks.

  • K

Last Man Standing and Malibu county

  • Supernatural fan

Nashville MUST be renewed, best new show of the season! How many episodes is there gonna be? 21, 22, 23 or 24? Everyone says different things?

  • THE OLD MAN

Went w/ the obvious, HE & Red Widow, but also went with an outsider, so chose “Revenge”

  • THE OLD MAN

    @ frodo

I chose Revenge because of BOP increasing & Revenge decreasing in the past few weeks. That 0.6 was one week only as OUAT hasn’t dropped below 2.0 (yet) while Revenge has.

I like how you guys are now including TGW in your arguments. Thanks.

  • rob60990

Looks like Nashville has a 21 episode order with reruns scheduled on 4/17 & 4/24.

  • HV

Red Widow and Happy Endings: 100% DEAD
Castle, Modern Family, Grey’s Anatomy, Once Upon a Time, Scandal, The Middle: 100% SAFE

  • frodo

    @ The Old Man

Its just not plausible. Every TV website on the web has Revenge as certain or likely renewal. Sunday has really crumbled for all broadcast TV and Revenge is still consistently second in its time slot. This week it got a 1.5 but there were various different factors for that decline such as it being Easter Weekend, having a lead in of 0.6, and going up against the finale of the biggest show on TV, the Walking Dead which got record numbers, also the Bible finale which had huge numbers, the Game of Thrones Premiere which got huge numbers, also the Amazing Race, the Good Wife, Shameless, etc. Its currently airing on one of the most competitive time slots on TV. It is a huge success internationally, the number one drama in Australia and big numbers all around Europe, Asia and Latin America, currently being aired in more than 60+ countries. It is also the number one ABC show on Itunes.
Than you have the episodes aired, Revenge has more episodes aired than Body of Proof and Nashville and gets better ratings than both on a much more competitive night.

Also with a lot of its cable competition gone, most likely Revenge will go up for the last four episodes. There is no way the struggling ABC would get rid of Revenge. You will not find a professional TV critic or site that have Revenge listed as anything but a certain or likely renewal.

  • iMember

Anyone who thinks Revenge will be cancelled is crazy. The show is safe for another season that much is sure at this point.

ABC has much bigger buns to worry about.

  • Tommy

    @Frodo

You are Mistaken there dude. Last Week Revenge got a 1.5 rating and Nashville got a 1.5 rating. Body of Proof got a 1.6 rating. On top of this, Body of Proof got 4 million viewers more than both shows, so actually your wrong!. SAVE BODY OF PROOF because it’s so freaking awesome. :)

  • frodo

    @ Tommy

This Sunday Revenge had a 0.6 lead in, aired on Easter and faced the toughest competition on pretty much any night.
For the past month Revenge has been getting a 1.8-2.0, higher ratings than both Body of Proof and Nashville. It has more episodes and is a more successful show. Overall viewers do not matter to network TV. I think you need to get yourself informed. As I said before, Revenge is safe. Body of Proof is a toss up. Nashville will get renewed as well.
All the TV critics, sites agree go look it up.

What ABC should do next season:

    Sunday
    DWTS/ Splash/ DWTS
    DWTS/ The Taste/ DWTS
    Body of Proof

    Monday
DWTS Results Show/ The Bachelor/ DWTS Results Show
    Revenge/ The Bachelor/ Revenge
    Castle

    Tuesday
    Once Upon a Time
    Shield
    Big Thunder

    Wednesday
    The Middle
    Suburgatory
    Modern Family
    New Comedy
    Nashville [13 eps]

    Thursday
    Doubt or Betrayal or Reckless
    Grey’s Anatomy
    Scandal

    Friday
    Last Man Standing
    Malibu Country
    Shark Tank
    20/20

I leave Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays the same to compensate for the revamping of Sundays and Tuesdays (and, to a smaller extent, Mondays). It does look like a lot of movement but it is just DWTS, Revenge, OUAT and Bop – it is not thaaaat much (this season they moved Revenge, Happy Endings, Apartment 23 and Last Man Standing, in addition to the late season movement of private practice), and Bop is practically self promoted as they promote DWTS (they can announce a revamped sunday and do it for both shows simultaneously), then the would only have to promote the moves of revenge and OUAT as well as 3.5 new shows, which is actually less than usual for ABC, to compensate for the number of moves.

I don’t understand the appeal of HE at all, so I hope it gets cancelled. I’ve seen multiple episodes and don’t find it funny in the least. Don’t Trust the B was way funnier than HE.

That being said, the only show I watch on ABC is Nashville, and it’s my favorite new drama of the season (with The Following a close 2nd), so if ABC cancels it, I’m going to be PISSED.

  • Anna Bones Clarkwood

I say cancel Happy Endings/Red Window, duh.

If they go with a 2hr TGIF, Malibu & Neighbors are worth renewing. If not, MC probably should be let go. Neighbors as well, unless they keep it on Wed, meaning Wed with Suburgatory & of course Middle/Modern Family, stays the same. Though, I could see moving Subrgatory & Neighbors to Tuesday @ 8pm. I’m keeping LMS for 2 full Fri seasons, at this point, unless s3 or projected s4 gets “Nikita” ratings.

It’s too early for BOP & Nashville. Yes, there is plenty of 1hr scripted already not going to come back, but not only is ABC 4th, but the trajectories of the shows are saying more than their %’s are atm.

The rest looks all good to renew, even the s2 less than 100% (96%)Revenge, though it’s also like Nashville, trajectory is giving a clue into what s3 & s4 are going to be. S2 is often a test to see if can get a boost like POI/Scandal did. And, if not, then the next 2 seasons is not worth it. That is unless the advertisers don’t base it on 18-49 alone & like New Girl’s 18-34, their is another demo that really works.

  • Tommy

    @Frodo

I know what i am talking about dude. I watch revenge but over Body of Proof, i would pick Body of Proof every time. Revenge which premiered with a massive 3.2 rating and had a season low of 1.4, this is something to be concerned about. ABC does not care if a show had a massive rating, it cares where the current ratings are heading. Nashville & Revenge are both falling in viewers, especially Nashville (1.8,1.7,1.6,1.5). Body of Proof on the other hand is increasing in ratings, 1.2, 1.2,1.3,1.2,1.5,1.6. If networks cared about what ratings had been achieved before, then Pan Am, Missing & 666 Park Avenue would still be here, but they don’t. They care about where the ratings are going. Body of Proof is showing signs of improvement and potential and that people are starting to like the new season. Revenge & Nashville ratings show that viewers are starting to get bored of the series. I know what i am talking about. Yeah you are right about Revenge starting with a higher viewership, but Body of Proof is back now and has already taken over Red Widow, Revenge, Nashville. :)

I think ABC needs a major shake-up, so I changed my schedule a lot this week. Thoughts?
What ABC should do for next season:

    Mon-
    8: Shark Tank
    9: S.H.E.I.L.D (new)
    10: Castle

DWTS needs to get away from The Voice. Put a male-skewing block of Shark Tank and SHEILD to counter-program. Castle isn’t male-skewing, but it’s a procedural as well.

    Tue-
    8: Last Man Standing
8:30: How the Hell am I Normal? (new)
    9: Grey’s Anatomy
    10: Betrayal (new)

Tuesdays need a complete makeover. Move Grey’s here to counter the male-skewing NCIS’s. Use it to premiere a new drama, and move comedies back. Last Man Standing was the only thing that ever did well on Tuesdays except DWTS.

    Wed-
    8: The Middle
    8:30: Suburgatory
    9: Modern Family
9:30: Keep Calm & Karey On (new)
    10: Nashville

Keep at least one night of the week intact, but only give Nashville 13 episodes just in case.

    Thu-
8: Dancing with the Stars/The Bachelor
    10: Scandal

The realities need to be moved away from The Voice. It’s obvious that DWTS is being killed. The X Factor is so weak on Thursdays that it’s nowhere near as much of an issue.

    Fri-
8: Dancing with the Stars: The Results
    9: Body of Proof
    10: 20/20

Body of Proof should do OK on Fridays. That was the timeslot originally planned for it.

    Sat- (midseason)
    8: Shark Tank (R)
    9: Castle (R)
10: Primetime: What Would You Do?

    Sun-
    7: AFHV
    8: Once Upon a Time
    9: Once: Wonderland (new)
    10: Revenge

Putting the OUAT spinoff between its hiatus is utterly stupid. 9 pm would be so much better. It’ll be replaced by a new drama come March.

Midseason – How to Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life), Celebrity Wife Swap, Wife Swap, Splash

  • frodo

    @ Tommy

Good luck with the delusion. And by the way I have nothing against Body of Proof, its a nice show but noway is it in a better position than Revenge for renewal. As you can see TvBythenumbers agree.

  • frodo

People can keep on voting for Revenge, vote for it 1000 times if you have to but its not going anywhere. : )

  • Uofmguy423

As much as it pains me, I went with HE. Love the show, but its ratings are so terrible that ABC should cancel it. It was a fun ride and I’ll miss it. Great show that should’ve been left at 9:30 on wednesday after MF.

ABC’s ratings are down everywhere, that it shouldn’t cancel anything that consistently gets a 1.8 or above until it starts getting some new hits. How ironic that they canceled GCB which had a low of 1.8 I think and has now burned through 2 dramas in that 10pm Sunday slot.
