Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts the network's decision on renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2012-13 season in May, 2013. (includes results from December 31, 2012- March 27, 2013):

This is a special short week version of the post. The table above includes news and ratings through Wednesday, March 27 only.

Which CBS show(s) not currently renewed or canceled would you devour? (Vote for as many shows, as many times as you want. As are all internet polls, this is meaningless.)

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.
*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

** The Renew/Cancel Index does not attempt to predict shows ending because the cast or production company chooses to end them. These shows have the ratings for renewal, but rumored cast/production company moves may end the shows.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    Rules cause that show sucks.

  • Dan

CSI NY, Vegas, Rules of Engagement and Golden Boy will all be cancelled

Two and a Half Men and Criminal Minds will both be renewed.

  • Nile

    Every show!!!!

  • Patrick Ausgewalht

I think that Two and a Half Men should get a one episode order increase (23 to 24) and have a series finale May 16th. Two and a Half Men still has some of it’s old self, but I dunno if I can watch an 11th season. They might as well rename is the Allen Harper show as only him and Berta will be left next season

  • Anna

    Time for Rules to go.

  • Rebecca

All of them, lol. The only one on the list I watch is Rules, but it’s time for it to end. Have the baby, marry the couple, and that’s all she wrote.

  • Jonay

If rules were to be renewed would that mean more comedy time???

  • Robbie Bishop

Definitely take out “Golden Boy” and “Vegas,” and probably both “CSI: NY” and “Rules of Engagement.”

Renew “Criminal Minds” and “Two and a Half Men.” Though they may not have the ratings they used to, both still do very well in their respective timeslots.

  • lll

I adore Gary Sinise but CSI:NY cannot cheat death much longer. If Vegas can bring their Tuesday ratings to Friday there is a chance it can get renewed. Golden Boy and Rules are going down. I believe it will all come down to how great (or bad) the new pilots are.

  • hello

Looks like CSI NY will finally get a long overdue cancellation

  • HAPPY!

Midseason – Elementary, The Mentalist, Rules of Engagement

Golden Boy, Vegas, CSI NY & ROE

  • MaryAnn

I love Vegas, and really hope that moving it to Fridays to pair with Blue Bloods will save it.

Golden Boy has a difficult premise and I think I (and a lot of other people) found it too hard to get into.

CSI:NY is a show I watched every week this season, but I would be ok with seeing it end; it has had a long and fulfilling run.

Finally, Criminal Minds is a show I would love to see cancelled, just because it is way, way too dark. But I’m enough of a realist to know that with its numbers, that will never happen.

Comedies? Don’t watch any of them, so it doesn’t matter if they keep the current ones or add in a new crop. They are for someone else, not me.

  • Nick

Why on earth would you leave a new show to die on Fridays at 8??

  • CBSviewer

This is what I want for CBS:

    8:00 – How I Met Your Mother
    8:30 – Crazy Ones
    9:00 – 2 Broke Girls
    9:30 – Mike & Molly
    10:00 – Beverly Hills Cop

    8:00 – NCIS
    9:00 – NCIS: Red
    10:00 – Criminal Minds

    8:00 – Survivor
    9:00 – NCIS: Los Angeles
    10:00 – CSI

8:00 – The Big Bang Theory
    8:30 – Mom
    9:00 – Person of Interest
    10:00 – Intelligence

    8:00 – The Good Wife
    9:00 – Hawaii Five-0
    10:00 – Blue Bloods

    8:00 – Crimetime Saturday
    9:00 – Crimetime Saturday
    10:00 – 48 Hours

    7:00 – 60 Minutes
    8:00 – The Amazing Race
    9:00 – Elementary
    10:00 – The Mentalist

  • frodo

Vegas, Golden Boy and CSI NY are all gone, the rest will be renewed.

  • PurpleDrazi

Rules of Engagement because I just can’t stand David Spade.

  • k:Alex

End Two and a half men, it’s way to long on tv.
The story is done, time to write a end.

  • Ben

Golden Boy, Vegas and CSI: NY because of lousy ratings.
I would keep Criminal Minds, Two and a Half Men and Rules of Engagement because they have good ratings and they help to pay the bills that allows CBS to renew shows such as The Good Wife.
