Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts the network's decision on renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2012-13 season in May, 2013. (includes results from December 31, 2012- March 27, 2013):

This is a special short week version of the post. The table above includes ratings through Wednesday, March 27 only.

No changed predictions from the cancellation bear this week, he's soaking up the sun, but it's your chance to be the bear.

Which Fox show(s) not currently renewed or canceled would you devour? (Vote for as many shows, as many times as you want. As are all internet polls, this is meaningless.)

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the Fox Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

  • Cammie

Well Glee will be renewed- so Touch is my pick.

  • Justin

    The Cleveland Show

  • Anna

Truthfully, most of the Fox shows I watched were canceled over the last 2-3 seasons. Only Bones remains.

  • Dan

Touch and The Cleveland Show will be cancelled

    Glee will be renewed

This week’s post is a nice way to delay FOX until May as the only 3 headlines are Glee is certain to be renewed, Touch is certain to be cancelled and The Cleveland Show is certain to be cancelled.

  • Travis

Laughing at those voting for Glee.

  • Sky

I would cancel all 3, but obviously Glee’s cancellation is a pipe dream at this time since it’s performing above Fox’s scripted average. I predict its renewal will be announced next Thursday, April 11.

I’m really curious about what new shows are going to be picked up for next season and how the schedule will shake out.

  • Jonay

Wouldn’t make sense to keep The Cleveland Show just in case one of their fall animated comedies don’t work out??? Or maybe they should put it in there late night animated block……

  • Matt

I know Glee will be renewed but I’d probably cancel all three.

  • Sky

@Jonay – From what I understand, there is a longer lead time needed for animated shows. So if The Cleveland Show hasn’t been picked up yet, it’s not going to be. Plus, Fox has already picked up a new animated show for next season – Murder Police – which will start airing midseason.

Besides, The Cleveland Show is the weak link in their animation block, and I don’t really see The Simpsons, American Dad, Family Guy, or Bob’s Burgers tanking in the fall, even with Sunday Night Football as competition.

  • Justin121

Glee, Touch, and The Cleveland Show.

Bring Clevland back to Family Guy.

  • MaryAnn

Fox is a network that could disappear and it would affect my viewing habits very little. I watch The Following, but it would not matter to me if it were cancelled. However, some of the drama pilots sound really, really good, so if it were up to me, I would cancel a lot of shows they have already renewed, and pretty much start over.

  • Alan

Does anyone know the way glee earns millions off their songs on itunes Does fox get any of that?

  • Nick

What Fox should do for 2013-2014:

    8: Bones
    9: Gang Related (new)/Untitled Wyman/Abrams project (new)
    8: Delirium (new)
    9: New Girl
    9:30: Two Wrongs (new)

    8:  X Factor/ Idol

    8: The X Factor/ Idol
    9: Kitchen Nightmares/ The Following

    8: Glee
    9: Raising Hope
    9:30: Dads (new)

    8: Fox Sports Saturday

    7: The OT/ Cops
    7:30: The OT/ Bob’s Burgers
    8: The Simpsons
    8:30: Bob’s Burgers/ Murder Police (new)
    9: Family Guy
    9:30: American Dad

    Midseason – The Mindy Project
Also, the remainder of Kitchen Nightmares’s season.

  • Cammie

Glee won’t work at 8:00. It’s too mature for that time period.

  • Mal

All of the above. Please Jesus.

  • hello

Things can only be good with the death of Cleveland Show

  • Mike

If new girl and TMP does good after Idol Fox will move them there next season and put raising hope on Friday and Tuesday 8 glee and 2 new comedies after that

  • Ultima

Glee won’t work at 8:00. It’s too mature for that time period.

It’s too mature for the target audience of adults ages 18-49 and 18-34? Primetime is primetime.

  • Sky

@ Alan: Music sales are WAY down this season for Glee. They’re definitely not earning millions off their songs, and in some cases, they are probably barely breaking even on them – possibly even losing money on some. Based on a Rolling Stone article I read back in 2010, Glee spends anywhere from $15,000 to $30,000 in licensing fees per song. I assume those costs are part of the overall episode budget, so any possible losses in music production costs would be offset by TV ad revenue.

Glee is produced by Ryan Murphy Productions and 20th Century Fox Television, so it would seem Fox has profited from Glee’s various revenue streams.

  • frodo

Glee will be renewed for a last season.

    The rest will be canceled.
