Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts the network's decision on renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2012-13 season in May, 2013. (includes results from December 31, 2012- March 27, 2013):

This is a special short week version of the post. The table above includes ratings through Wednesday, March 27 only.

No changed predictions from the cancellation bear this week, he's soaking up the sun, but it's your chance to be the bear.

Which Fox show(s) not currently renewed or canceled would you devour? (Vote for as many shows, as many times as you want. As are all internet polls, this is meaningless.)

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the Fox Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    Is that better ?

Oh, definitely. It’s a very good schedule (certainly better than what Fox has now).

  • DK

I’m not sure why so many people are assuming Glee will have a shortened fifth season, whether it is the show’s last or not, and be dumped to Fridays. It’s still performing above FOX’s scripted average and always rates above a 2.0. And that’s not even mentioning the fact that it has a ton of revenue streams + syndication next season. Glee is a lock for 22 episodes. Period.

    @ Nick

    Thanks a lot !

  • Rebecca

Yeah, I forget why I wrote it down…is it the one with Rob Riggle in it? I know I thought it looked funny when I read about it (The Gates). Or it could have been The Gabriels. I take note of whatever comedies look good and who’s in them, usually, since I mostly watch comedies. This time I didn’t write down the stars’ names.

  • Meg

Glee is causing me more and more pain each week. I watch out of habit knowing I’ll be wildly disappointing. Please put me out of my misery and down with Glee.

  • Jaime04

@Meg – I think this season has been so much better than Season 3. It hasn’t been disappointing so far (in my opinion)

  • Austen

Glee will get renewed but those new kids story lines are just bad the writers need to fix some stuff early on next season and not drag it out so much.

  • Abir

Raising Hope is a terrible show that is extremely boring and unfunny. I don’t understand how it’s gotten so far with quality and ratings like that.

    Cancel the damn thing!

  • Abir

I think that the problem with Glee is the newbies… and Blaine. It’s too late to fix the Blaine scenario as a lot of the original fans have left and only the teenage white females have remained (as well as a few more, but this is the most dominant part of the audience). As they pretty much live on hair gel and homosexual men, Ryan Murphy knows that Blaine Anderson ticks both of those options, despite being such a bland, ignorant and screen-hogging character, the idiots of the fandom (pretty much most of it) love him.

The newbies on the other hand hold a small part of the fandom. None of them truly have a dedicated audience like Blaine does, and they pretty much take away screen time from the characters everybody truly cares for, i.e. Rachel, Kurt, Santana, Quinn, Tina, Mike etc.

I say, cut down Blaine a little, remove the newbies and include the season one characters more.

What if FOX were to buy Smash and put it before Glee? Two musicals placed right after one another, both with similar fanbases (well not entirely). That would save Smash and give FOX a new audience.

  • Ultima

What if FOX were to buy Smash

Why would they throw away money on a failed show when they have plenty of pilots they actually have a chance to be profitable?

    Fall 2013 FOX

    All animation as usual.

    Bones 8:00
NEW DRAMA 9:00 bring back the Following midseason

    GLEE-8:00 –
    NEW GIRL 9:00

    X Factor -2 hours 8-10

    X Factor-8:00
Raising Hope 9:00- Should perform better here than Tuesday. That is if X Factor doesn’t drop too much again.
    NEW SITCOM 9:30

    All unscripted

Whatever cooking contest is the flavor of the month or whatever is cheap. FOX should try a news magazine again. Its been a while and they are very profitable.
FOX should not waste expensive scripted dramas here anymore.

  • Someone You Use To Know

They just need to cancel glee so I can finally be free.

    Fantasy Schedule 2013-2014

    8pm Bones (Final Season)
    9pm *Untitled JH Wymen Project
    Midseason: The Following

    8pm Glee
    9pm New Girl
    9:30pm The Mindy Project

    8pm X-Factor
    Midseason: American Idol

    8pm X-Factor:Results
    Midseason: American Idol Results
    9pm *Gang Related

    8pm Hell’s Kitchen
    9pm American Dad!
    9:30pm Bob’s Burgers

    7pm The OT
    8pm Simpsons (Final Season)
    8:30pm Family Guy
    9pm Raising Hope
    9:30pm *Goor & Schur Project

    7pm Simpsons repeat
    7:30pm Simpsons (Final Season)
    8pm Family Guy
    8:30pm *Murder Police
    9pm Raising Hope/ *Dads(April)
    9:30pm *Goor & Schur Project

I feel it is time to split up the animation. Place the two weakest performers on Friday night. Simpsons should be in its final season so Family Guy would air at 8:30pm in the Fall preparing for it to eventually take over the 8pm slot. FOX should try and help its scripted programming by airing Raising Hope after Family Guy. The network also needs new dramas to hit because Bones should wrap up. Gang Related seems as if it would reach the younger skewing audience that watches the singing shows.

  • Fred

Its like sacrilege to break up the 3 hour animation block. And to announce announce the 20+ year old Simpsons demise next season. But I guess FOX needs be bold and step up its game soon.
Bones is still a decent performing show, don’t think FOX will end it next season, unless it drops considerably next season.

Very interesting Fantasy schedule. FOX would be wise to consider it.
