FOX DEPORTES DOMINATES COMPETITION IN MARCH
Network Builds Leadership Position among Spanish Language Sports Networks and is No. 1 in all key day-parts, Sports news, Soccer Talk & Social Media
Los Angeles, CA – April 4, 2013 – FOX Deportes, the No. 1 U.S. Latino sports brand, finished March as the No. 1 U.S. Spanish sports cable network in total viewers and adults 18-49 across all day-parts, including total day, primetime, weekend day and late night, according to Nielsen Media Research. Additionally, franchise programs “Central Fox” and “La Última Palabra,” both finished as the No. 1 sports news show and No. 1 weekday soccer talk program for the second month in a row, respectively, in U.S. Spanish cable.
FOX Deportes day-part and program victories were complimented by strong audience gains, with total day growing +10%, prime growing +13% and late fringe growing +20% in total viewers compared to March 2012. This surge in viewership is largely driven by “Central FOX” and “La Última Palabra,” which both launched a year ago. “Central Fox” grew the network’s news viewership by +14% in total viewers and +17% in adults 18-49 compared to March 2012, and delivered an average of 40,000 total viewers daily. “La Última Palabra” grew the network’s soccer talk viewership by +61% in March in total viewers and +56% in adults 18-49 compared to the same time period in 2012 and delivered an average of 61,000 daily viewers.
“Being No. 1 is testament to our compelling and exclusive sports events and uniquely entertaining and informative news and talk shows,” said Vincent Cordero, Executive Vice President and General Manager, FOX Deportes. “After closing a milestone year in 2012, we are grateful that we continue to increase our loyal viewership to further cement FOX Deportes as the premium sports destination for U.S. Latinos.”
FOX Deportes’ exclusive big events in Spanish also helped propel the network’s audience gains, including the launch of the most comprehensive NASCAR racing coverage in Spanish language television history, as well as network stalwarts Copa Libertadores and UEFA Champions League featuring the biggest soccer rivalries among the best teams and players from Europe and Latin America.
FOX Deportes’ social media outlets also saw unprecedented growth by providing U.S. Latinos the vehicle to engage with the broader FOX Deportes fan community. Over the past three months, the FOX Deportes’ Facebook page received over 365,000 new “Likes,” ending March with more than 1.37 million “Likes.” FOX Deportes now has over 1 million more Facebook “Likes” and four times more “Likes” than its nearest competitor in U.S. Spanish cable sports.
