    @How come nothing ever benefits from the AI lead in…

    All so called beast shows has that problem but only CBS were smart enough to put after its beast veteran show. All other networks put new shows.

    Its not just idol – TBBT, MF. Lead-in can’t make hit as super bowl can’t make hit etc. I made that mistake too.

    Still house and fringe were with pretty good run after Idol. They were with 100+ episodes and house were big time hit/fringe cult show all over the world. Not that bad.

    MR. MARQUEE 922 THANK YOU IVE BEEN TRYING TO TELL PEOPLE THAT ON HERE BUT ALL THEY SEE IS .1 DIFF IN THE VAUNTED DEMO, WHICH IS A BASIC TIE GIVEN MARGINS OF ERROR. I WAS ALSO IN TV AND RADIO SALES. yes the caps were intended.

  • BigFlop

    Another week and Scandal couldn’t beat Greys (everybody is expecting for that) :D
    Is it possible for a show at 10 pm to beat its lead-in? NO

  • were123

    @paris
    you don’t care what they say about you, and yet you ask not to be bullied, doesn’t that mean that you actually care? you shouldn’t, you don’t personally know anybody here anyway (probably). you can like and hate whatever you want, but the way you put iy is bothersome, so you should just stop

  • Keith

    WELL, I WAS IN SALES TOO AND IT WAS THE OPPOSITE, MARTY. MY COMPANY WOULD RATHER PAY MORE TO GREY’S THAN POI SO PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT. yes the caps were intended. ;-p

    @Really don’t understand why people are hating on Elementary, it’s still one of the higher rated 10pm shows on the networks

    People need to hate that is human nature. Its dump to hate one show over and over again every year(will look stupid) so you hate new shows every year(that make you smarter i guess). That is my logic. Elementary case is strange to be fair. usually sitcoms or serialized shows take the hate. Because teens. Elementary is one of the few procedurals that generate hate. I guess that is because teens watch less procedurals = less hate(i guess they don’t care). I think kids/teens are 90% of the haters. Look with CW shows or shows serialized like grey, revolution, scandal, revenge, the following etc.

    Is it possible for a show at 10 pm to beat its lead-in? NO

    Yes it is.

    Parenthood and Chicago Fire have done it repeatedly this season. Hannibal just did it last night. Body of Proof has done it at least once this year. I suspect Blue Bloods will probably grow out of Vegas tonight.

    for a .1 diff its a tie you know that if you were in sales keith. im not talking about a show with . 5 or bigger diff either thats a clear choice.

  • David

    @Alex

    Was about to say the same exact thing ;)

  • Alex

    @marquee 922
    Don’t be naive not sure where you learned that from but I’m going to give you the real since I worked in TV advertising a few years ago trust me they do care especially when its a close race like that where the only real difference that separates them is either their key demo which is 25-54 for POI and 18-49 women for Grey’s and the extra 6 million eyes that can watch their product.

    I don’t want to call into question your apparent expertise on this issue but unfortunately you’re mistaken.

    In truth what’s much more important than the total viewers will be how the various ‘sub-demographics’ (for lack of a better description) of the 18-49 demo break down. So for example how many high income viewers a show has or how well educated the audience is. There’s a long list of different distinctions to make between the shows before you start looking at the total audiences. So whilst Grey’s and Person of Interest might be close in the 18-49 demo they won’t be close on gender divides, income divides, education divides, the types of consumers that watch, whether the people watching have kids or not etc. etc.

  • BigFlop

    what kind of shows did they beat?

  • Alex

    @MARTY
    for a .1 diff its a tie you know that if you were in sales keith. im not talking about a show with . 5 or bigger diff either thats a clear choice.

    And again if you were in sales you’d know that advertisers and networks see many numbers beyond the 18-49 demo and use said numbers to sell (and decide whether to buy) advertising time. As a result the fact that any given two shows have the same or similar 18-49 demo is fairly meaningless. It would mean something if the two shows were basically tied in every single demographic breakdown which seems beyond unlikely to say the least.

  • Petar Ivanov

    @Melissa
    In May upfronts wee will have the whole picture and enough time to see and talk for year to year final numbers. We are still with preliminary numbers before final adjusments. Althou i doubt that they will be with more than tenth different for most shows.(i mean finals) Still let’s wait one more month.

  • Alex

    @BigFlop
    what kind of shows did they beat?

    Hannibal grew out of Go On (seriously just scroll up its right there on the chart). Parenthood grew out of The New Normal. Body of Proof out of The Taste. The one that’s quite relevant to the Scandal/Grey’s case though is Chicago Fire growing out of SVU. Also of interest to this particular case is the fact that The Mentalist grew out of CSI on Thursday nights.

  • MrK

    Hannibal was great, but put it up against Elementary? They should move it to Monday or Wednesday.

  • Petar Ivanov

    @gender divides, income divides, education divides, the types of consumers that watch, whether the people watching have kids or not etc. etc.

    But we will never see that numbers. So we can only talk for prime demo. Not even C3. May be one they Tv by the numbers will has all information, demos and everything. But may be better not. Even now so many people are confused with more numbers and more math will be more dirturbing and people will be like crazy even for old fox like us.

  • Ben

    Ouch! Community was beaten in the ratings by Wife Swap, as well as The Big Bang Theory and American Idol. As a Community fan, it is painful when more people watch Wife Swap. Not good at all.

  • MARTY

    you are right, but we are about a nation of 325 million. 2.8 million or 2.7 million is nothing that is where a 6 million plus viewer advantage is important alex. a few years ago i wouldnt have tried to sell a lot of these shows. have a great evening everyone

  • CrimTV

    @Petar Ivanov

    So your saying you hate on shows simply because it’s dumb to hate on the same show two years in a row, not because of it’s ratings. That’s dumb

  • CrimTV

    I really wish people would stop trying to say that total viewers are what networks/advertisers look for! It’s 18-49 demographics advertisers look for FULL STOP! Yes networks such as CW look at 18-34 and W18-34 but they are kind of just like ‘add ons’. If a show does badly in 18-49 but good in total viewers, it’ll still get cancelled above a show that gets bad viewing numbers but high 18-49 demo, which would get renewed!
