TV Ratings Friday:'Happy Endings' & 'Shark Tank' Rise, 'Grimm' Up, 'Vegas' Sinks & 'Nikita' Down

ABC was number one in adults 18-49 while was CBS was on top with total viewers.

On ABC, Happy Endings earned a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating at 8PM up 22 percent from last week’s 0.9. A second episode at 8:30 scored a 1.0 up 43 percent from last week’s  0.7 Shark Tank garnered a 2.1, up 22 percent from last week's 1.8 adults 18-49 rating.  20/20 earned a 1.8 up 29 percent from last week's 1.4 adults 18-49 rating.

On CBS, Undercover Boss earned a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating up 14 percent from a 1.4 on March 8. The timeslot premiere of Vegas garnered a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating down 40 percent from a 1.5 on February 21. Your predictions were far too optimistic. Blue Bloods scored a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating even with its most recent new episode on March 15.

On NBC Fashion Star scored a 0.6 down 14 percent from last week's 0.7 adults 18-49 rating.  Grimm earned a1.5 up 7 percent from last week's 1.4 adults 18-49 rating. Rock Center garnered a 0.7 down 13 percent from last week's 0.8 among adults 18-49.

On Fox, Touch earned a 0.6 up 20 percent from last week's 0.5 adults 18-49 rating.

On the CW, Nikita earned a 0.3 down 25 percent from last week's  0.4 adults 18-49 rating. Cult scored a 0.2 up 100 percent from last week's 0.1 adults 18-49 rating.

In Late-Night Metered Markets Friday night:
  • In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 2.5/6; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 2.6/6; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 2.3/6.
  • In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 Wednesday results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 0.6/3; "Late Show," 0.6/3; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.9/4.
  • From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET Wednesday night, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.5/5 in metered-market households and a 0.6/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.
  • From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.6/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.2/4 with an encore). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.6/3 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2 with an encore).
  • At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.9/3 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

Definitions:

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.  More information on ratings is available here.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    I just looked at the CBS Tuesday line-up. Seems like that 10pm slot would be a good place for H50 actually, it would be very compatible with the NCISes. I’m gonna root for that, but if it ends up being Friday, I’ll hope for the best. As you said, it doesn’t necessarily spell doom.

    While HE did improve in the demos, I really think that networks should not base their decisions just on demos. Both LMS and MC did decently well in the demos and had twice the amount of viewers that HE has gotten thus far in the same time slot.

    The simple fact is that HE is too narrow in its niche, plus add the fact that the lead characters are very crass and unlikeable.. and I can see why it doesn’t have a wide audience. FYI, I’m in the 18-34 age group as well.

    Happy Endings could have been a moderate hit. Part of it is ABC’s fault for jerking it around the schedule, but a lot of it the show’s fault for going down the Community route of being too niche.

    Had they made this show more like Friends, or at least played up on that aspect more, this show probably could have better ratings.

    It’s good that HE rose in the ratings. I really liked those episodes. I’m hoping for USA to pick it up!
