Melissa McCarthy again? She was there the last year…

The show was actually very funny. Wonder if the CBS Final Four overrun (that game didn’t end until after 11:30) might’ve hurt the ratings.

I was sorely disappointed by this episode. With Melissa McCarthy hosting I was expecting absolute perfection, but aside from the Kim Jong-Un bit and Peter Dinklage’s surprise cameo during Weekend Update it wasn’t very good at all. At least there were no Californians. I was afraid they’d probably try and pull another one of those, but thankfully they didn’t because it would’ve really destroyed the show for me.

I don’t know much about the Host last night, but it was terrible. It was like she was doing a bad imitation of C Wiig who does a bad imitation of the Great Carol Burnet.

One of the worst SNL’s for me.

    She just hosted?? Overrkill

  • Samuel

Best episode of the season, too bad it couldn’t do a little better :/ a lot of people might not have watched because they thought it was a re-run of her very recent other hosting gig.

  • Slackland

Tv man she hasn’t hosted since season 36, but I do agree..it wasn’t what she did in season 36. I mean no reprise of lulu diamonds? Or Arelene? Those were great…I was surprised there was.not even a bridesmaids reunion with all or atleast a few of the girls, considering the history melissa and her pal Kristen Wiig have I was sure there would be.

  • Slackland

And ji come on…don’t you think that was a little harsh? Not as good as her 1st appearance a couple seasons back but she was funny. I think I was just expecting alot from Melissa after her recieving a nomination for an Emmy for her brilliant job hosting SNL her first time.

  • Doc Michaels

The Rutgers basketball parody was absolutely hysterical. Plenty of websites have linked to it this morning. It was at least worth that alone — and other than the Timberlake show, what has been funnier this season?

  • Pete

Melissa McCarthy is a fantastic host. Thought it was a great show. Don’t think they promoted this episode enough. Not sure if people really know her by name.

  • Ravenrei

Last night’s show was weird. I did laugh at a lot of the stuff in the skits, but for me about half of it was funny and half fell flat. I’d say it was probably a solid episode, but not a great one.

  • Nick

I don’t understand why everyone thinks this was a bad episode. I thought it was fantastic, and mostly hysterical throughout. Some really great skits, and Melissa McCarthy has some great comedy chops. I thought for sure it would do better than a 2.7.

  • TVPhool

I thought Mellisa did great – and she was clearly working hard at it, unlike some walk-on lame hosts. The ham skit was silly but made me LOL.

Phoenix was just Pop-crap but was worth watching just to see that manic drummer – HE is great !

I think Melissa McCarthy was a great host, she just didn’t have a lot of good stuff to work with. She’s hilarious, but SNL is great at making a really funny person be put in a boring world.

  • JoeyDavid

For those with a sense of humor like me, I thought last nights episode was very funny, especially compared to the bland and boring that SNL usually is with no reunions, Melissa was very funny last night, I’ve not laughed so much in a long time.

Melissa was great! She hosted again because she’s hot property on Hollywood right now coming of the success of Identity Thief

  • Cath

I didn’t like her as host the first time she hosted and I wasn’t too happy last night. Did like the basketball skit but Hader was in it and he usually makes me smile. But you would have to be in on the joke and know what the parody was all about. Missed the beginning skit because of basketball and her shoe monologue was just odd. Audience seemed to like it though. I don’t like slapstick.

The Timberlake show was the best so far this year. They really know how to write for him. Sometimes I wonder if they just coast along. Have no idea what the union rules are but you would think if you had a couple of weeks to come up with something when they have breaks and you know who the talent is you should be able to come up with better material.

Been watching the show since it started and there is just such terrible inconsistency. At least now they don’t put all the bad skits at the end, the last half hour used to be a wasteland.

  • Jules

I enjoyed this episode. I think McCarthy is one of the great comedians of our current time. Sadly, not a lot of good funny people out there (or decent writers who can write for them.) But frankly, McCarthy was able to take some pretty mediocre sketches and make them marvelously funny.

  • Rebecca

I liked Drunk Uncle and Weekend Update….that was about it. McCarthy did the best she could with bad material. Last time she hosted was one of the funniest shows in the last few years. Next up is Vince Vaughn I think….hope it will be good.
