Good for the soaps. All up over a year ago. Great for Y&R and GH!

However, the soaps all bleed out during the week when you look at the day to day ratings. GH hit 3M Monday, but was at 2.5 Friday. Y&R 5.2M Monday, 4.7 Friday. Whatever, still great overall.

People can rave about GH all they want, but facts are facts: they are still averaging LESS than 3 million viewers a week. That’s less than Let’s Make A Deal and Law & Order reruns. If I were ABC I wouldn’t be happy with that. That is just barely better than The Revolution.

  • jupiter

GH is only doing barely better then the chew they are still avering less then 3 million viewers

  • jupiter

GH and days are only doing barely better then the chew they are still avering less then 3 million viewers that is less then the view and lets make a deal and the price is right

  • Jennifer

I LOVE what Jill Farren Phelps is doing with Y&R. Glad to see the show is up year to year.

  • Sean

Listen up , Total viewers dont matter to networks! GH crushes The View & Chew in the ALL IMPORTANT Women 18-49 ! GO GH!

  • Derrick

    Way to go Y&R!!

The Y and R has been the number 1 show since its debut. How can it not be when you use some one else’s popular creation as its theme(Nadia’s Theme). It is such a moving peice of music. I haven’t watched it lately, but I remember the extreme close ups of the characters. The scenes all contained conversasions between 2 characters. Next scene again 2 characters. You could actually count their nostril hairs. Surprised again that GH did not hit all time highs with the Nurse’s Ball and the promotions of 50th anniversary. What the heck is wrong with people not supportting their favourite show. Days is on the right track. I feel sorry for Jennifer. I wish she would come up with her own sceme to derail Chloe. If I was her I would have taken her laptop and smacked Chloe in the head with it. Chloe right now goes beyond anything that a DiMera would have done. Blackmailing someone with an option of either Daniel sees his son or Daniel will not be able to find his son. There is an option you can either take it or dish it out. I would have dished it out and Chloe would be severely hurt. There is so much going on at Days that it just keeps me tuning in day after day. Characters are becoming more demostrative and interesting. Not only do we have Chloe’ but we have Kristen, and Nicole and Nick, etc. Excellent show right now. Thank you NBC.

@me I can’t find the ratings for Thr Revolution but if I remember correctly it wasn’t even doing half of what GH is doing. If anyone can find those ratings I would love to see them.

All the soaps up big from last year. Been very pleased with the Y&R turnaround.

  • pferrando

Y and R had a great week, as this was it’s 40th anniversary week. The big story is the increase over last year. Up over 600,000!

  • Mike

Congrats Y&R. Glad to see you build on your increases from the week before.

when will people get a clue and realize that these numbers mean nothing. only people watching soaps on tv are crummy old people. please note i said on tv. people of all ages watch soaps including myself… but i dont watch then on tv, i watch it online on their respective sites the next day. until these numbers reflect online views, they dont truly reflects viewers, just counting how many old people are at home in the middle of the day to sit and watch the shows when they air.

GH’s ratings should (and they better) SOAR this week with the Nurses Ball episodes. Looking forward to it!

I still can’t get myself to watch Y & R anymore. I enjoyed it a few years ago when Adam was sleeping with Rafe while involved with another woman and gaslighting Ashley all at the same time. Victor even told his son, Adam, he was okay with him being gay. They dropped that whole storyline so for that I said ADIOS. Adam would be a more thrilling, entertaining, interesting character if they kept him more on the edge of being gay/straight…sorta bi-sexual, and eventually coming to terms with being gay and just accepting it. Y & R dropped the ball on something that could have been really grand. I’m sorry, but Adam saying “I slept with Rafe to keep him from finding out about blah blah blah” was a total farce. He slept with him because he was attracted to him. No straight guy will sleep with a gay man to keep him from fnding out something. That was total bull. I’ll never forgive Y & R for starting something that could’ve been great and ongoing. Sharon would never have slept with Adam knowing he had sex with another man! People don’t even question what he did on the show!

Ashley was more interesting when she was a tad freaking out. The new cast of younger characters just haven’t interested me. Wrong casting choices if you ask me. Nikki going back to Victor every time you turn around gets so boring and old. Get over that part of their history and allow each character to move on with others and keep it that way. Heck, have Victor and Nikki HATE each other over something and start a frenemy thing….just stop with this back and forth “supposed sick love affair” between them. Its disgusting.

  • Wow

@cab….the gh ratings as not reflective of the 50th anniversary or nurses ball episodes. These are the ratings for the week prior. I am looking forward to seeing the ratings for these respective episodes.

  • Patrick

GH is awesome right now. I do have to admit I found myself a little bored for a couple of weeks prior to last week. But last week rocked! The 50th anniversary show was awesome and the nurses ball is off to a wonderful start. Frisco singing to Felicia on Friday was just wonderful. It’s great to have so many vets on right now, Frisco, Felicia, Lucy, Bobbie, Scott, Kevin, Audrey, Laura, Brenda, Jax, Nic, Noah, thank you Frank and Ron! If the old regime was still running the show, it would still be the sonny, Carly, and Jason hour. I like how Frank and Ron use all the characters, just not a handful. I do hope that Frank and Ron can keep the vets on after the ball. Thank you GH!

Can’t believe GH is not #1. These past few weeks have been amazing. ABC has promoted it non-stop. What is wrong with our fans? Hopefully this week will be better.

  • Mike

They might not matter to you. But they sure mean a lot to the people who work on these shows and their jobs depend on these numbers. Like it or not but how much the budget is for these shows matters on how these numbers are. And like it or not whether a show stays on TV or not still depends on these numbers. And I don’t see it changing anytime soon.

And wow talk about someone who thinks awfully high of themselves. “Crummy old people”…..get real. I take it you are an important young person. If it weren’t for some of us “crummy old people” some of you important young people wouldn’t be going to college or have day care for your children or insurance to drive your cars or even have your cars.

I have 3 children that I am paying to go to college right now. I bought them their cars, pay their car payments, and and pay their insurance. I have worked hard all my life to have the right to be a “crummy old person” who sometimes gets to sit at home during the day and watch TV.

One question I have since it is brought up so often:

Nielsen is hired by TV networks and advertisers to track TV ratings. For online ratings they have other ways to track those. Nielsen is only hired to track TV ratings.

What is so hard for people to understand about that?

Even this site is called TV By The Numbers.

I just don’t understand why people have a hard time understanding that. You can throw in all the numbers you want but that is not going to mean anything to what the advertisers and networks are interested in. If they were they would ask for them.

It would be like going to the doctor for a foot problem and him throwing in an xray on your back. It is nice to know your back is okay but all you wanted to know was what was wrong with your foot.

The ratings released here and posted on SON, here and other sites, are a report specifically asked for by the networks and advertisers. Sure they get other reports including the live plus 7 day that are included in the seasonal ratings. This is evidently the most asked for because it is the one that is seen the most often and the only one we ever see on a weekly basis.

This was not the week celebrating the 50th Anniversary of General Hospital, correct?
