ChrisannD…I have the ratings for “The Revolution” (except for its next-to-last week). “The Revolution” started out with 1.68 million viewers and was never able to top its premiere week numbers. Its lowest numbers (not counting the weeks when repeats aired) were 1.21 million viewers, set a few weeks before it ended and after it had already been canceled.

Can someone tell me the difference in GH 18-49 ratings now and two years ago when they cancelled OLTL and AMC? Are they lower, higher, about the same?

Thanks Mike. I think the March 2011 ratings were still part of the uptick from the Jake death story line. Why is GH seen as safer now than it was back then with higher ratings? Is it because Brian Fronz is gone?

  • robert sprague

great job gh come on gh fans lets make it agiant week this week.

  • Sophie

I’m so loving GH with all the vets. The show has been beautiful, and making my heart beat. I can’t wait to watch everyday! THANKS GH!!!!!

  • Jeff

    @ Michele

That’s a huge reason why, but also, the networks are lower across the board mostly for ratings and demo #’s. I think they are starting to realize they will never have the command they once did in any daypart, and they are learning how to be profitable with lower rated shows. So, they are starting to figure out other ways to make money off of their shows, and those don’t always reflect in the ratings. That’s just my opinion.

  • robert sprague

I run a GH site, and this week my numbers went through the roof over last year, so the ratings will be up more.

The only thing the networks care about is the 18-49 demographic. They don’t care about the total rating. Even if GH is getting less than some game show, its demographics are better. Secondly, advertisers made it clear to CBS when they put on game shows that they prefer soap operas.

  • Mike

CBS still got the last laugh and word on that one though. I hated they cancelled GL and ATWT — those were my shows. But it has worked better for CBS. Their daytime lineup is strong than it has been in years. Each show grows and supports the other, and it is making money and clearing a profit for the network. That makes every show including Y&R and B&B safer.

As far as site ratings, I will have to see the ratings to see if that correlates. I have seen big events on soaps go wild and blow up Twitter and the ratings hardly move for that day or week.

As to the ratings I posted from 2011, I was impressed that Y&R is very close now to it’s demos then, and B&B is above theirs from 2 years ago. That is impressive.

  • JayTN

Advertisers don’t care what type of program a network airs. All they care about is getting the largest number of eyeballs to sell their product. The only reason why 18-49 year olds are preferred is because they supposedly do not yet have brand loyalty (although surveys and polls have debunked that idea).

Bottom line is that CBS would not be keeping its daytime schedule intact for the fourth straight year if advertisers were not happy and the network was not making money off of it.

  • PatF

    CBS is doing fantastic.

Mike….I miss GL and ATWT, but GL needed to be cancelled. ATWT could have been saved if the correct team had been put in place. However both LMAD and the Talk are strong additions to this lineup.

Both their soaps are healthy creatively and ratings wise.

I’m not sure what the other networks are calling their “lineup”, but GH is doing better and Days is pretty much NBC’s only signature show. I hope all the soaps keep growing, but anytime they fall under 2.0 I’d be worried.

  • David

Wow another great surprise pulled off by Frank and Ron today. Great to see Robert Kelker Kelly back as Stavros Cassadine. Awesome that they kept this secret.

Love the haters who just like to put the negative on GH When the ratings were down they were all jumping on the 18-49 now suddeenly there is research that debunks that, lol.

The botttom line is all shows not just daytime have dropped from 2 years ago. The fact however is GH has increased its total viewers by 1/2 million. They are doing great in 18-49 and are number 1 in 18-34. The new lady in charge of ABC daytime has a few times pointed out the 18-34 rating. She has also said how she is a fan of GH grew up watching.

The show had some great episodes last week. The nurses ball episodes that started last Friday and continued through yesterday were fantastic.

Again GH is on fire thanks to Frank and Ron for respecting GH’s history and them brining back characters that previous regimes destroyed. Great to see some of those wrongs being corrected

I wouldn’t go so far as to say GH is great television but, for me, its fun escapism. I guess from the time of Luke and Laura on the run it always has been. Y&R is more grounded in standard daytime fare and thankfully so far JFP hasn’t messed it up although I’m wondering why the upcoming Kyle recast. I think the actor is great and sort if resembles a young Jack.

  • JayTN

My comment about advertisers and 18-49 year olds had nothing to do with GH…some people only read what they want to read and see what they want to see. My comment is that the logic behind favoring the 18-49 year old viewer is flawed. Studies and research have shown that people over the age of 50 have no more brand loyalty than those people under the age of 50. You can “lol” and dismiss it has simply “haters gonna hate” all you want to, but that doesn’t make it untrue.

  • JayTN

jonboyelk…some of Y&R’s recent casting/recasting decisions are a bit puzzling. First they get rid of Marcy Rylan (Abby Newman), then bring her back and now are recasting with Melissa Ordway. Marco Dapper (Carmine) is dropped and then brought back to seduce Lauren. The characters of Summer and Noah Newman are recast without any real explanation (i.e. aging, etc.) and now the same is being done in regards to the character of Kyle Abbot. I wonder if Max Ehrich (Fen Baldwin) has left the series, as his character hasn’t been seen since the bullying storyline wrapped up. Given the shaky state of his parents marriage, you would think that Fen would be seen more and shown reacting to those events around him, instead of him always being at sporting practice or at a friends’ house.

  • PatF

The actor who plays Fen is not on contract. And when they brought back Marcy as Abby, they were not smart enough to give her a contract so she wisely went where she could get one. Marco never really left. I too totally disagree with the Kyle recast. Jill needs to realize that too much change with the characters can be jarring to longtime Y and R fans like myself.

They also just announced today that Adriana is out.

At least the writing has improved under Josh. Jill seems to be too much all over the place for me.

  • Mike

I think the reason Rylan was never given a contract is Phelps wanted the girl they eventually hired. If I understand wasn’t she on Hollywood Heights and of course Jill had worked her and Jill has even admitted in print she loves to work with actors she has worked with before. these are also known as Friends of Jill.

I agree that many of the choices leave you scratching your head.

I am always suspect with Phelps but in the past particularly when she was with Santa Barbara, Guiding Light, and Another World I have enjoyed the shows she has worked on. It was her work when she got to One Life To Live and then GH that really made me dislike her as a producer. I was really scared when she came to Y&R.

    But so far so good.

  • JayTN

I know that Max Ehrich is recurring and doesn’t have a contract, but in the past he has still been listed in the closing credits (on those days that they list the cast). Recurring characters/actors are listed after the contract players (who are listed alphabetically), yet the last couple of times that the cast has been listed, Ehrich’s name has not been included…hence, my wondering if he has been dropped.

As far as Marcy Rylan is concerned…good riddance. I don’t know if Y&R didn’t want to give Rylan a contract or not, but I, for one, won’t miss her.
