On CBS, the NCAA Basketball Tournament Final Four notched a huge preliminary 5.1 rating from 8-11PM, up  2 percent from last year's 5.0.

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    come on CBS and renew the final four already. :)

  • Sean

    YAY !!! Go GENERAL HOSPITAL! Thanks 20/20 !

  • Rebecca

    I like the songs on Smash, too. Didn’t get to watch much of it last night before we had to put on a DVD (Deadwood), but I saw the fun Liza Minelli birthday song. I’ll stream the whole episode later.

    If SMASH continues these numbers, it won’t even have Saturday.

    Congrats fraternity to zap2it bloggers, your predictor was right on the moneyholder’ s watch. I am convinced now you convene Tv and sharply know it. Sad as it is, “the voice” rerun low nonredindantly confirms it is yet another overhyped upperhanded scientology shows within the same random abandon ranks as usher. Yes, usher is yet another scientologist.his stint in San Francisco. as a dancer was co -sponsored by k.guilfoyle. included was his Oakland California gig.Shakira is family connected to the late Englishman actor, Cain. Its not so much she is washed up or is a has been. The famously English actor introduced her to scientologists assisting her in her dream of being accepted by Hollywood’s top brass. I truly believe a show like smash, for myself anyways, belongs on hulu& hulu+ subscription servives remissive of Debra Messing &Angelica Houston( Caroline. Kennedy scientologists), Jennifer Hudson (oprah scientologist) Katherine McPhee (both oprah. & Madonna ‘s kabbalah protoge w /secondary ties to k.guilfoyle. ((

    DePaul (number 3 market Chicago)

    I won’t speak to other markets, but there are far more popular college basketball teams in Chicago than DePaul. Do you even watch sports?

  • Julia

    @Ultima
    Besides looking at the most popular teams in a market, I think in general CBS and NCAA want the good stories. Getting to milk Kevin Ware’s leg for another week? Huge win for them. And Michigan has one of the largest alumni bases in the country and hasn’t seen the championship game in 21 years (24 if you go based on unvacated years). This isn’t like professional sports where people just root for whatever city they live in.

    NBC Press Release: Smash dominated its drama competition in the 9pm hour with total viewership and built on its lead-in with upscale viewers!

  • Darkridedan

    I think people will realize they moved Smash when they tune in on Tuesday and it’s not there.
    Is that a new one for Fan Excuse Bingo? :)

  • ragincajun

    CBS has to be ecstatic with a Louisville/Michigan championship game. Because of Ware’s injury, Louisville has become America’s team, and Michigan has the largest alumni base of any school in the country.

    I’m well aware of that. I was actually going to write a longer comment (about competitiveness of the game trumping local markets for one game playoffs, North Carolina based teams being in most of the highest rated games, etc.), but responding to Joseph’s mindless comments gets boring after a while.

    Couldn’t let the DePaul being popular thing go, however! ;)

    Sadly, no.

  • jp

    The 2 games did very well especially the Louisville vs Witcha State game. Very surprised about SMASH. WOW!!!!!!. That show is gone.

  • AniMatsuri

    Smash actually did better than I thought it would. I have faith it will eventually sink to a <0.4 by the end of its run though. ;)

  • Alan

    omg poor Smash I thought it would do better. But I agree with John A, the numbers don’t matter anymore, it’s a dead show.

  • 728huey

    @Ultima and Joseph

    As far as NCAA ratings go, it’s not necessarily about huge TV markets as it is about traditionally competitive programs. If Kentucky were even halfway as good this year as they were last year when they won the national championship, they would have drawn huge ratings. Same with Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, and UCLA, and Syracuse has a huge following in the NYC area too, which probably explains the spike in ratings last night. As for DePaul, they haven’t been extremely popular in Chicago since Ray Meyer last coached the team in the mid-1980’s, and the University of Illinois is a much bigger draw in Chicago.

  • Js

    So much for NBC using The Voice at every hour on every day- I hope it dies like when ABC used Millionaire the same way. I hate NBC with a passion and hope the 30 Rock building collapses for good

  • forg

    Oh 3 pages for Saturday ratings post, not bad

  • Ted Craig

    @Joseph

    Michigan probably does as much if not more than St. John’s to deliver viewers in NY. I believe only NYU’s law school has more graduates practicing in NYC.

  • robert

    Wow GH beat Smash.
