Rookie sitcom How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest Of Your Life) ratings started well last week. Well enough for the Cancellation Bear to start its prediction as "likely to be renewed". Early predictions are subject to rapid change, stay tuned.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, the "old" Fall predictions will carry over.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    Gooo Suburgatory!

  • JacobYates

@Bill Gorman or anybody who can answer

If this show does well, does it spell death for the Neighbors?

  • Mal

I know Happy Endings’ days on ABC are numbered, but I hope it continues at the 1.0 level to convince USA a pick up is a sound investment.

  • Max Vrany

@Jacob, not necessarily. ABC has the room to expand sitcom time next season.

  • Dan S

Assuming How to Live gets renewed I assume it’ll kill off MC not Neighbors. I could see a 2 hr TGIF lineup starting with LMS, Neighbors, Suburgatory & then Parents. HE will get shipped off to USA & BOP will end.

  • Nerdbot

Nice to see Revenge on the top of the “likely renewed” group. I think I should just stop worrying about its fate no matter the ratings it gets in the remaining episodes.

About Happy Endings, it’d be great if USA picks it up, let’s hope that actually happens.

  • S

NASHVILLE must get genewed. I can’t live without it :D

  • Hanna

    Sunday:
    8pm Once Upon A Time
    9pm Revenge
    10pm Westside

    Monday:
    8pm Dancing With The Stars
    10pm Castle

    Tuesday:
    8pm Dancing With The Stars
    9pm S.H.I.E.L.D
    10pm Gothica

    Wednesday:
    8pm The Middle
8.30pm How To Live With Your Parents
    9pm Modern Family
    9.30pm Super Fun Night
    10pm Nashville

    Thursday:
    8pm Suburgatory
    8.30pm Trophy Wife
    9pm Grey’s Antomy (13 eps Final Season)
    10pm Scandal

    Friday:
    8pm Last Man Standing
    8.30pm Happy Endings
    9pm Shark Tank
    10pm 20/20

Midseason:The Returned, Reckless, Betrayal, Spy, Bad Management

The only programs I can realistically see ABC shifting next season are SCANDAL and SHARK TANK to fix weaker areas in the schedule, but its hard to speculate where – Thursday and Sunday death slots or Tuesday? Programs such as ONCE UPON A TIME, REVENGE, DANCING WITH THE STARS, CASTLE, NASHVILLE and GREY’S ANATOMY which are all doing fine where they are are unlikely to be moved.

FLOPPY ENDINGS and FLOP OF PROOF fans, enjoy your shows while they are still on the air.

  • Marc

    @Dan S

Umm, did you see How to live w Parents? No way ABC puts that show near Fridays with orgy themes. Also, Sub and Neighbors would not transition to Fridays well. Audiences are too small as it is. You need shows that can still get eyeballs like LMS/MC does.

  • bob

Too bad ABC doesn’t take Guys with Kids. That show would fit in perfectly with TGIF.

  • omabin

I don’t like the idea of ABC changing their fridays. But the problem is that means that there literally is no room left to premiere new comedies. Unless they do go for the tuesday coedies again, which I don’t like, I am not sure what they can do. Tuesday comedies are also tricky because it would mean that they could only premiere 2 new dramas if both BoP and Nashville are on the fall schedule. Maybe they just simply cancel Nashville instead… It is very tricky. I would go for:

    Sunday
    DWTS/Splash/DWTS
    DWTS/The Taste/DWTS
    Body of Proof

    Monday
DWTS Results/ The Bachelor/ DWTS Results
    Revenge/ The Bachelor/ DWTS Results
    Castle

    Tuesday
    Once Upon a Time
    Shield
    Big Thunder

    Wednesday
    The Middle
    Suburgatory
    Modern Family
How to Live with Your Parents
    Nashville

    Thursday
    Doubt
    Grey’s Anatomy
    Scandal

    Friday
    Last Man Standing
    Malibu Country
    Shark Tank
    20/20

  • diana

i honestly dont see abc moving revenge next season its already been moved once if it gets moved again then it would be dead unless its on wendesdays

  • JacobYates

    @Hanna
Your schedule is okay but needs adjustments. Here’s what:

    1) Happy Endings is done (at least on ABC). That spot belongs to the Neighbors.
    2) Grey’s will not get a 13 episode final season. It will get a 22 episode, not final season.
    3) Suburgatory is not strong enough to launch Thursdays. It will likely stay behind the Middle.
    4) How to Live… should be held for Midseason.
    5) You’re missing Big Thunder and the OUAT spinoff from your list.

  • The End

    @omabin

ABC won’t move Once Upon a Time and Revenge from Sunday though. Considering the audience Once is aimed at, I would say with 100 percent certainty that Season 3 will still be airing Sundays at 8pm.

  • The End

Oh yeah. Production on the Once spinoff is starting very soon. They’re doing it shortly after Once Upon a Time has wrapped it’s final episode. Should be good.

  • chris

    @Hanna
no way will it be greys last season next year, its abc highest rated drama

  • Jonay

Is The reason The Neighbors is going to be renewed is because it sota stood on its own feet when The middle was in repeats????

  • Tommy

SAVE BODY OF PROOF! Nashville will clearly be canceled next season so why leave a show that can only achieve 5.5 million viewers and a 1.6 rating when Body of Proof with some better scheduling can achieve more than it’s usual 9 million and a bigger rating than 1.4.

ABC Schedule for Tuesday & Thursdays:
    Tuesday:
    8:00pm: The Taste / Splash
9:00pm: DWTS Results / Wife Swap / The Bachelor
    10:00pm: Scandal

    Thursday
8:00pm: Shield (13 episodes) / Mid season Gothica (13 episodes)
    9:00pm: Grey’s Anatomy (24 episodes)
10:00pm: Body of Proof (24 episodes)

  • Ted Craig

If I were an ABC exec, I would be very cautious about How to Live. A23 scored the same ratings last year and the decision to renew that hot mess threw the entire sitcom season into chaos. It ruined the idea of creating a Tuesday night comedy block and it caused the bizarre scheduling on Wednesdays when the weakest show of the night aired during two hours of reruns.

I’m not saying it shouldn’t be renewed. I am saying I would proceed with that in mind.
