Rookie sitcom How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest Of Your Life) ratings started well last week. Well enough for the cancellation bear to start its prediction as "likely to be renewed". Early predictions are subject to rapid change, stay tuned.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, the "old" Fall predictions will carry over.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    what ABC should do:

8:00 – Dancing with the Stars / The Bachelor
    10:00 – Castle

The night is doing soild numbers.
There is no need to change that night for now.

8:00 – Dancing with the Stars: Results
    9:00 – New Drama (S.H.I.L.E.D)
10:00 – New Drama (male skewing)

Dancing with the Stars is not strong enough to anchor the night.
Let the highest profile new drama (S.H.I.L.E.D) anchor the night and follow it with the most male-skewing drama out of your new dramas.

    8:00 – The Middle
    8:30 – New Comedy
    9:00 – Modern family
9:30 – How To Live With Your Parents
    10:00 – Nashville

The best new single-camera comedy goes after The Middle.

    8:00 – Shark Tank
    9:00 – Grey’s Anatomy (final season)
    10:00 – Scandal

Shark Tank moves to the night o fix the 8:00 slot.
Next season is probably the last year with the original cast members and the ratings will continue to fall. They should announce next season the last season and let it go out while it is still strong.

    8:00 – Last Man Standing
    8:30 – New Comedy
    9:00 – Suburgatory
    9:30 – The Neighbors
    10:00 – 20/20

The best new multi-camera goes after Last Man Standing.
Suburgatory and The Neighbors move to friday to fill the second hour of the comedy block after Shark Tank moves to thursday.

    7:00 – America’s Funniest Home Videos
    8:00 – Once Upon A Time
9:00 – New Drama (female skewing)
    10:00 – Revenge

Let the best female-skweing new drama the best possible laid-in and the hour with the highest viewing levels.
Revenge moves to 10:00 to fix that slot.

LOL at everyone scheduling next year as grey’s final season. it is their top rated drama.

ER didn’t have a single original character (well, save one or two given the time) when it ended. The only thing that would cause the show to end early is if the cast, as a whole, decided to call it quits. And they are obviously preparing for that eventuality with this year’s SLEW of new interns.

will that change the show, perhaps for the worse? possibly, but until abc can afford to lose it or the numbers plummet, it will be sticking around.

  • JacobYates

That’s a good schedule. My only arguments:

    1) I think How to Live… should go after the Middle so MF can launch a new comedy.
    2) I don’t think Grey’s next season will be its last.
    3) LMS could be used to launch the Neighbors on Friday and Suburgatory can launch a new comedy but your idea works too.

  • The End

Speaking of Once Upon a Time(Spinoff), I was hearing rumors that Cora might be in it in some capacity.

  • Jon

@ yasmeen….why has the second season of Revenge been a disaster? I think they’ve amped up things quite a bit. Killing off Amanda was truly unexpected at the point in the series. There is so many twists and turns, every episode keeps you on your toes, because you don’t know what’s going to happen next. The big mistake they made was moving it from Wednesday nights. If they would have kept it there, I gurantee it would have never fallen below 2.0 in the demo. It probably would be gettin about 2.9-3.3 every week. Pitting it up against the walking Dead is a sure way to kill any show, I don’t care who you are.

  • The End

@It probably would be gettin about 2.9-3.3 every week.

That’s utterly insane, no it wouldn’t.

  • yasmeen

i have no doubt that revenge will get a season 3 but honestly if revenge truely had a loyal following then people would watch the show no matter its truely in a sophmore slump, people stopped watching the show because its confusing i know a lot of people that stopped watching for that reason even if they moved it to wendesdays it would still be getting the same ratings.ratings always reflect on how good a show is. if revenge improves in storylines next season then probably the ratings will get better, in the beginning of the season it was getting a 2.6 when it was against the walking dead so scheduling absolutely has nothing to do with it

  • Devin

@ Fred. I like your schedule.

The big mistake they made was moving it from Wednesday nights. If they would have kept it there, I gurantee it would have never fallen below 2.0 in the demo.

You mean… like it did, last year, in the Wednesday slot? It hit 1.6 there. With year-to-year drops added in, that’s virtually the same as its Sunday low of 1.4!!

  • KJ Styles

I hope and pray that Suburgatory doesn’t get moved to Fridays next season. It would get killed there.

Hopefully Family Tools and/or How To Live With Your Parents flop to where they either get cancelled or moved to Fridays. HTLWYP isn’t as bad as The Neighbors, but it still sucks. Neighbors will definitely move to Fridays. While it did well enough to be renewed (unfortunately) it didn’t do well enough to stay on Wednesday.

  • omabin

    You are wrong.

    Revenge’s ratings last year:

No 1.6 whatsoever. The lowest it went was a 2.0 against the 2 hour CM’s finale.

  • The Middle Lover

The Middle, Suburgatory and Modern Family! Whooooo!!!

  • Nick

    You are wrong.

Oops, I was thinking of the recap that got 1.6 last April.

  • Cle

I have seen many comments about people giving their opinions about next season’s ABC schedule. From those I have made a few probabilities about which show would be placed at which slot. In fans opinion best slot for the shows next season are:

    DWTS & DWTS Results : Currently on Mon @8pm & Tue @9pm
from comments here in TBTN most popular day for DWTS would be sundays as to stabilize ABC sunday scheduling.

    Castle: Currently on Mon @10pm
Best slot for Castle as per comments are its original slot Mon @10pm (probably 50%), Tue @9pm (25%), Thu @8pm (15%) & Sun @10pm (10%)

Body of proof(if renewed): Currently on Tue @10pm
It can be placed on Thu @8pm (35%), Fri @9pm (30%), Thu @10pm (25%) & its current slot (10%) as per fan comments..

The Middle & Modern Family: Currently on Wed @8pm & 9pm
There havn’t been any big arguement about Middle & MF’s moving so its likely to stay @ Wed 8pm & 9pm (99.99%)..

    Nashville: Currently on Wed @10pm
    Best slot for Castle as per comments are Sun @10pm (55%), Wed @10pm (25%), Thu @8pm (10%) & Mon @10pm (10%)

    HTLWYP & Surburgratory: Currently on Wed @9.30pm & 8:30pm
It can be placed on its current slot (50%) or Fri @9.30pm or 9pm (50%) as per fan comments..

Greys Anatomy: Currently on Thu @9pm
I don’t see ABC moving it and also no major comments on its shifting timeslots. Probably would stay on Thu @9pm (99%) or move an hour backward on Thu @8pm (0.11%)

    Scandal: Currently on Thu @10pm
As per comments Scandal may move to Tue @9pm (30%), Sun @9pm (30%), Thu @9pm (10%) or stay on its current slot (30%)

    LMS: Currently on Fri @8pm
It can be placed on its current slot (90%) or Wed @8.30pm or 9.30pm (10%) as per fan comments..

The Neighbors & Malibu Country(If renewed): Currently on Wed @9.30pm & Fri @8:30pm
It can be placed on its current slot (50% for TN & 90% for MC) or Neighbors may move to Fri @9.30pm (50%) & MC may be moved to another Fri slot except 8pm(10%) as per fan comments..

    OUAT: Currently on Sun @8pm
It can be placed on Tue @8pm (35%), Tue @9pm (15%) & its current slot (60%) as per fan comments..

    Revenge: Currently on Sun @9pm
As per comments Revenge may move to Tue @9pm (5%), Thu @9pm (25%), Wed @10pm (35%) or stay on its current slot (35%)..

And for HE & RW as they nearly a step to cancellation I couldn’t find any arguments for them as timeslot shifting but rather ‘renew or cancel’…

For AFHV, Shark Tank, Wife Swap & Splash(if renewed) would be most probably at their current slots except some say ST should be moved out of Fridays…

  • rob60990

@blackrock1969, you expect ABC to cancel LMS and replace it with The Neighbors? Yeah right…

  • The End

You have to admire his efforts to prove you wrong, he could of just told you straight out the show never hit a 1.6 during its first season and directed you towards the Wikipedia page, he made an effort to type out all those numbers lol

  • Judy912

‘CASTLE’ is doing strongly on Monday’s at 10 PM. I hope ABC keeps it right where it is.

  • andri

I am al wit “how to live with your parents “getting renewed if body of proof is completely axed. Subirgstory and happy endings need to Go -o -o – o off the air. I wonder if malibu is allowing Nashville to breathe and survive among the programming mix.
