Rookie sitcom How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest Of Your Life) ratings started well last week. Well enough for the Cancellation Bear to start its prediction as "likely to be renewed". Early predictions are subject to rapid change, stay tuned.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, the "old" Fall predictions will carry over.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    Thursday

    8:00pm Greys Anatomy Moving Greys here would fix the death slot.
    9:00pm Scandal Moving Scandal here would allow it to grow even more.
    10:00pm Castle or new drama

    I just don’t see ABC doing this though. It probably would work though.

    I think shark tank would move out from fridays next season…

  • Charmed

    When do ABC usually announce early renewals? Most other networks have done it already.

  • Cle

    usually in may…

  • Too early to call HTLWYP…

    For those championing renewal for HTLWYP already, do (cancellation) bear in mind the show isn’t doing as well post-MF as “Cougar Town” did. Now I know it’s been a couple years, and ratings continue to deteriorate, but something to consider… (Especially when considering Mr. Sunshine, HE, A23, etc. have fared similarly post-MF.)

  • Chris

    I’m guessing KING JOHN is that multi cam ABC has. I’m sorry but that show doesn’t sound good at all. ABC doesn’t have a lot of good comedies this year. How The Hell Am I Normal and Super Fun Night seem to be locks. What I find funny is a lot of you guys are running into scheduling conflicts which result in bad schedules simply because you all seem unwilling to open up that
    9 o’clock hour on Fridays to comedies. To me, if ABC did move Suburgatory and The Neighbors to Fridays I see that as a win. Those shows without new lead ins get mid 1’s anyhow so on Fridays they would probably do the same. Also it might actually force ABC to promote their Friday comedies for once. Kind of like how Happy Endings got way more promotion than LMS and MC did all season, that’s how LMS and MC should be promoted through out the week but they don’t.

    @Bob Have faith that Guys With Kids will get renewed. It’s Jimmy Fallon’s baby and he’s in position to take over the Tonight Show. I do agree that it would be a way better fit on Fridays with ABC’s comedies but NBC appears to have at least one other family comedy it can go with; the Sean Hayes pilot which looks really good.

  • The End

    @Charmed

    It’l be soon, most shows on ABC now have finished their productions. They’re all waiting on the greenlight from ABC to begin working on their next season, though in a lot of cases the producers will be plotting out how they want the upcoming season to go before renewal then getting to work on their scripts.

    Once Upon a Time is in no rush anyway, the producers are occupied with the spinoff pilot at the moment, as they’re done with the final episode of Once.

  • Zombie!Ant

    Hopefully USA picks up Happy Endings if ABC cancels it. Seasons 1 and 2 were great, season 3 tapered off for me but some of the recent episodes seem to regain that Happy Endings charm again.

  • Al

    @Billy martins

    Worst schedule ever!

  • omabin

    I don’t understand how people can still make dream schedules with DWTS staying put. Its lead out, Castle, not to mention fellow reality show Shark Tank, on Fridays, are now beating it. Regardless of how many problems ABC has elsewhere, this is by far their main problem as it takes away 3 hours of prime real estate, not to mention the effect it has on the following hours. Any schedule that doesn’t solve this is a major No for me (including ABC’s likely schedule in May, which I imagine won’t tackle this issue yet again). The fact that the results show has even beat it sure should show that it must be moved away from the voice as soon as possible!

  • Jeff

    The problem with DWTS isn’t the day it schedulled the problem lies with the producers constantly manipulating the show if DWTS stopped these stupid things like Tweet to give a couple an extra two points and these stupid themes like Country Week and Prom Night that has failed. A lot of fans are tuning out because they r feeling like the show is being manipulated to much and sunday would not work for DWTS for the fall at least because 2 of the judges are on the UK Series as well that airs on Saturday

  • Marc

    @Chris: “9 o’clock hour on Fridays to comedies. To me, if ABC did move Suburgatory and The Neighbors to Fridays I see that as a win. Those shows without new lead ins get mid 1?s anyhow so on Fridays they would probably do the same.”

    Name a show that moved to Friday’s and did about the same. Most shows suffer a serious drop. LMS actually dropped quite a bit. HE went from a 1.2ish to a .8 and .6 in their latest airings. Vegas, Golden Boy, CSI. Every show, every network, every time. A 1.6 on a Wednesday would become a 1.0-1.2 on a Friday. And Shark Tank is doing a 2.0 there now.

    The only way ABC goes two hours of comedy on Friday’s is if they get at least one more show with a big name/self starter that they can plug in at 9:00. If you plug in your worst two performing Wednesday comedies it just looks like a last ditch effort and more hoping that TN and Sub don’t “fall too much.” ABC did it right by launching a new show with MC on Fridays and saying they wanted to be competitive on the night, not let it be a graveyard for failing shows.

  • The End

    @Billy martins
    @8:00pm Dancing with the stars
    10:00pm OUAT ~(New Time)

    *Shakes head* This will never, in a million years happen. ABC has the show at 8pm on Sunday for a reason, it appeals to a more family friendly audience. Moving the show to 10pm would be entirely counter productive.

    Dancing With the Stars doesn’t need to be placed on Sunday, it’s doing alright as is. And ABCs Sunday lineup to a degree is doing fine too. The only question over Sunday will be if ABC elects to keep Revenge on Sunday, and if it does, what will it pair with it and Once.

  • The End

    @Friday
    8:00pmHTLWYPFTROYL~(New Time&day)
    8:30pmThe Middle~(New Time&day)
    9:00pm Modern Family~(New Time&day)
    9:30pm Family Tools ~(New Time&day)
    10:00pm 20/20

    Worse scheduling choice I’ve ever seen for Friday personally. ABC would never go along this route, ever.

  • KJ Styles

    @Ted Craig- “There are no death slots, only bad shows”

    Nonsense! Last Resort was an EXCELLENT show that was put in a death slot (8pm Thursday) it would have probably survived at 10pm elsewhere on the schedule except Sundays.

  • v

    I don’t see Neighbors getting renewed, especially with what happened last year, moving 2 Wed comedies to Tuesday and they both bombed.
    Friday slot will be worst.

  • SteveO
