In what may be the only real disagreement this season between the Cancellation Bear's Renew/Cancel Index and Robert's Bubble Watch, the bear is once again moving his Beauty & The Beast prediction back to "likely to be renewed".

Three reasons why the bear's making the move. Beauty & The Beast ratings relative to other CW scripted shows continue to hold in the 90%+ range which is typically signals "likely to be renewed" (retentionistas may begin their howling now). As noted in previous weeks, the CW has never begun a 10 hour Fall schedule without at least six hours of "veteran" scripted shows, and canceling Beauty & The Beast would leave them with just five. Finally, Beauty & The Beast is the only 100% CBS produced show currently on the CW schedule that's able to be renewed (Hart Of Dixie is CBS&WB). Although he doesn't have historical records to back it up, bear guesses that joint venture quid pro quo is likely to carry at least a little decision making weight.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the CW Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

So excited to see this! Well Deserved! BATB!!

  • Charmed

BATB hasn’t been renewed yet, calm down!

  • Dave

    @Melanie

Of all the make believe schedules I’ve seen, I like yours the best!

  • Walter

Here’s my updated schedule for next year:
    Monday: The Tomorrow People, Oxygen
Tuesday: Company Town, Hart of Dixie
    Wednesday: Arrow, Supernatural
Thursday: The Vampire Diaries, The Originals
Friday: Nikita, Beauty and the Beast

If what Deadline says is true and Nikita is only getting 13 episodes, then I think at midseason, Hart of Dixie will move to Friday with BatB and they will either premiere a pilot in its slot. I predict The Selection and Reign for midseason pickups.

  • Aline

Let’s hope it’s right … BatB has so much room to grow even bigger !! This show is just PHENOMENAL !!

  • Jude

I, for one, will be pleased to see BATB renewed. I’m really curious to see just how much off the bottom of a barrel a show can scrape. Nikita’s ratings went into free fall in its second season. I fully expect Beast to embarrass even the CW.

  • Claudia

    @Charmed

We know that, this is nothing comparing to what is gonna happen when we get the confirmation. Me personally, Im just enjoying seeing BATB haters comments about the change of status in this site and the possibility of renewal.

  • Kavyn

@HV The only thing about your schedule that makes any sense is Thursday…

  • Melody

At this point I find myself less and less interested in what happens with the remaining shows. Although I watch Nikita, Beauty & the Beast and Hart of Dixie, I’m not terribly invested in any at the moment. I loved Hart but the moment that they wrote the whole Wade cheating on Zoe debacle I simply stopped caring. I have enjoyed Nikita and BATB, but I’ve lost any real concern or passion for either show. The two shows on the network that I’m still deeply invested in are Arrow and Supernatural and they’ve already been renewed. Still, here’s my predictions for what is left:
Canceled – Cult, The Carrie Diaries, Beauty and the Beast
Renewed – Nikita and Hart of Dixie

  • Tonya

@ Halloween…listen to Franamado — there’s some truth there!! I’m sure the ratings will go up shortly and maybe they’ll reverse the timeslot to 8pm and put TVD @9p next season … I am certain there will be a next season — it would be ludicrous not to have a 2nd season, absolutely!!! The show has already become a cult favorite internationally — for many, maybe not you, but for a passionate interntional fandom…CBS &the CW will grant another season cause it makes financial sense, growth is imminent!

  • Brandy

I think if Deadlines right and Nikita gets a short final season and CD,BATB are all rene we d, I think theyll share timeslots on Fri.Or maybe CD /BATB will be midseason for when the other shows are on hiatus.Or maybe theyll be summer shows, Pedowitz is always talking about expanding original programming hours ,especially during summer.
@Tonya, VD will not move to 9 or BATB stay on Thurs, before VD .Next season it will be VD at 8, Originals at 9.

  • Jane

What’s the point in giving Nikita half a season? It’s not like they have so many shows that are just waiting to take its spot. And if Carrie Diaries is doing so well on the web them they should just keep it on the web. Its ratings are embarrassing.

  • Kavyn

Nikita could get a 13 episode season if they already have syndication deals (ie in Asia and whatnot), so it’s possible. But considering 88 is always the syndication goal I feel it’s more likely it will get a full season renewal than a 6 or 13 episode order. If Craig is leaving they can just replace him with a new showrunner.

The idea that both TCD and BATB are getting renewed makes me think the article is bull. Only one of them will get renewed, and that will be BATB to pair up with Nikita on Fridays. TCD is a complete flop, I don’t see a show that’s getting constant 0.3-0.4 ratings can have such an amazing online fan base that it would warrant a renewal.

  • Charmed

@Kavyn TCD only ever got 1 0.3, hardly constant.

  • BatbFan

Happy to see that the bear of hope, but I did that once and then fell into a tailspin, so I just wait for the issuance of the last four episodes to see how it does
Sorry but you have to be objective and not passion: (

  • HV

    @Kavyn
What doesn’t make sense with my schedule?

  • Kavyn

@HV A lot of it lol. Here:

    1. They’re not going to air a veteran show after Arrow or TVD, considering they need those two to prop up new shows. So BATB is not going after Arrow.

    2. They’re not going to put a new show after Nikita, and definitely not on a Friday. They’re basically killing the new show by doing it.

    3. Ditto with putting a new show after HOD. I fully expect HOD to go to Tuesday at 9pm instead of staying at 8pm since it’s already getting two seasons for syndication a la Nikita.

    4. SPN has always been a 9pm show, so it’s not going on 8pm.

Your Monday/Tuesday pairings might be fine (I’m unaware of what each show’s about), but they’ll be switched around. Your Wed/Fri pairings however, will not happen.

  • Dave

I always believe deadline but the fact that they’re considering Carrie has a chance is making me scratch my head. There’s no way this show should have a second season whether its on the air or online. Cancel it! It’s The CW’s major flop since RINGER!
