In what may be the only real disagreement this season between the Cancellation Bear's Renew/Cancel Index and Robert's Bubble Watch, the bear is once again moving his Beauty & The Beast prediction back to "likely to be renewed".

Three reasons why the bear's making the move. Beauty & The Beast ratings relative to other CW scripted shows continue to hold in the 90%+ range which is typically signals "likely to be renewed" (retentionistas may begin their howling now). As noted in previous weeks, the CW has never begun a 10 hour Fall schedule without at least six hours of "veteran" scripted shows, and canceling Beauty & The Beast would leave them with just five. Finally, Beauty & The Beast is the only 100% CBS produced show currently on the CW schedule that's able to be renewed (Hart Of Dixie is CBS&WB). Although he doesn't have historical records to back it up, bear guesses that joint venture quid pro quo is likely to carry at least a little decision making weight.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the CW Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    The CW 2013-2014 schedule

    Monday
    Supernatural
    The 100 (new)

I like the idea of, ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’, but Supernatural could be used to launch a new show in a tough Monday slot.

    Tuesday
    Hart of Dixie
    Repeats

I have no idea what the CW should do here except wait until midseason to premiere a new show.

    Wednesday
    Arrow
    The Tomorrow People (new)

Both have superhero elements to them so they could be compatible.

    Thursday
    The Vampire Diaries
    The Originals (new)

Being a TVD spinoff, this is the only place for The Originals to go.

    Friday
    Nikita
    Beauty and The Beast

Only place for BATB on next year’s schedule, assuming the ratings hold up.

    Midseason
    Reign (new)
    Oxygen (new)

Any thoughts would be appreciated. This is my first schedule so go easy on me.

@Eljah, Nikita will 100% stay on fri.Second, VD will not move to 9,it’s been at 8 it’s entire run and thurs next season will be Vd@ 8, Originals at 9. Beauty & the Beast,if renewed will not stay on Thurs but most Likley move to fri.
@JacobYates, I mostly agree with your schedule except reruns on Tues,If cw does have a repeat hour, it’ll be on fri.But I think they’ll move BATB there if renewed or Czd if it gets renewed as deadline said it might.

  • feinn

@Reward the ringer did get below a .5 a couple times I believe

  • Brandy

@feinn, yeah, it got several 0.4 s though the finale got 0.5

  • VHL

please please please please renew Beauty and the Beast…. one of the best of this season! really looking forward to a second season of Cat and Vincent!!!

  • chiduchn

    BATB sucks

  • RS

I’ve made no secret of my dislike of Beauty and the Male Model. Yet, it might get renewed for Friday. The fans will be given the chance to save it (as we SPN fans did). I admit I’ve done my best to kill the show. I was attacked personally by a Beastie who accused me of being illiterate. I’d attacked your fandom, but no one personally. You all own that. I’d go to lunch with fellow lawyers and mention the new take on the trope – Pretty, pretty boy with a pimple as the beast – who “hulks” out. No one had heard of the show. I said it was on the CW, and no one had heard of the network. Not wanting to give ANY publicity to a network that would support a beast-less Beauty and the Beast (and not caring anymore since my SPN is renewed for at least one more year and will get an ending regardless of Seasons 9 or 10), I let it go and moved on to other topics. If the CW renews B&MM, it deserves what it gets.

man CW is so pathetic…if the network just crumbled tomorrow I don’t think anyone would even notice.e

  • Sam

The CW shouldn’t have cancelled the secret circle last year or emily owens. Both shows had potential and I liked Emily Owens a lot. I mean it is fairly similar to Grey’s, but new faces and for everyone who is slightly awkward it felt real.

I think they should give BatB a chance.

  • Immaculate

    @RS

Thanks for exaggerating your relevance and importance. Perhaps you should focus on promoting things you like instead instead of hating on things you don’t. It might change your life perspective.

  • Hi

For next season I want Blind, Company Town and Reign. (I think is this names)

Please CW DO NOT BRING THIS OXYGEN-ALIEN THING! IT’S JUST AWFUL!

  • starship

    @ Sam

Emily Ownes was probably the best written and acted of the new shows they had this season. I love both Arrow and BATB, but if we have to be honest they both have their duds (acting and writing wise). The reason EOMD got cancelled is that it launched with pathetic numbers and fell even lower, it was doing better than Cult ever did or TCD was doing at the end of its run, but I’m sure the CW never expected Carrie to bomb so badly or Cult to be DOA.

  • David

I’m curious as to what everyone thinks The CW should pick up next season. Out of the following 8 pilots at most they will pick up 5:

    The Selection
    Company Town
    Oxygen
    Reign
    Blink
    The Tomorrow People
    The Originals
    The Hundred

    Here’s my picks:

    The Selection
    Oxygen
    The Tomorrow People
    The Originals
    The Hundred

  • Mary

I hope that TB&B will not be renewed for three reasons: 1) the rating is too low, 2) the show is boring and ugly, 3) the actors are mediocre. delete!!

  • JJA

Just read that “The Selection” pilot has a very adult/R-Rated feel to it similar to Game of Thrones. If that’s the case, we can forget seeing it on the CW. Maybe Showtime (which is also in the CBS family) will pick it up instead.

  • Jason50

@David-Assuming they pick up 5 pilots
My guess what CW will pick up:
    The Originals
    The Selection
    Company Town
    Oxygen
    The Tomorrow People

The 5 I would be most interested in seeing:
    Reign
    The Hundred
    The Tomorrow People
    The Originals
    Oxygen

Actually only interested in Reign and The Hundred but since I have to choose five I’ll go with those. I did think Amazon had potential but maybe the script presented was just bad.

  • Jeff

On Nikita I really hated to see Percy go. For me he was the perfect bad guy. And his scarred personal assassin was good also. Kept waiting for his reappearance somehow. Can I start a “Bring Percy Back”, thingy. If Nikita comes back, I’d welcome Percy back. Dead or not, bring him back.

  • Splum

    Woohoo, BATB!
