    I’m not sure I can cope with reading any more posts about what a failure and flop Revolution is.

    Anyway…

    Excellent performance from The Voice. The new coaches certainly seemed to have helped the show and freshened things up. In general I’m not sure NBC or The Voice’s producers get enough credit for how brilliantly they’ve cast the coach roles on this show particularly given that we’ve see the Fox talent shows wildly flailing around as they cast judges. Of course the Blind Auditions wrap up tonight and traditionally that’s where The Voice starts to look a little shaky so I guess the test is still to come.

    Also all credit to The Following its holding up.

    Does Revolution always have to get adjusted down?

  • CrimTV

    @steven

    Well since The Voice overruns into Revolution, yes

  • SJ

    Wow, Revolution is a hit. A 2.2 out of a 5.0 is every network’s dream, right? /sarcasm

    Watch this turkey bellyflop next season when NBC inevitably moves it away from The Voice, Smash-style.

    Good to know that networks now measure a shows success based purely on how it rates in comparison to the show that airs directly before it and absolutely no other factors.

    Well last season the first Battle Round rose to a season high 4.8, up from the last Blind Audition’s 4.6, and remained in the mid-upper 4’s for most of the Battle Rounds. The Knockouts also saw a boost; the last Battle Round earned a 4.3 and the first Knockout climbed to a 4.8. Things didn’t really start to go awry until the Live Shows, where the show dropped into the 3’s until the finale.

    @Melissa
    Its worth remembering that in the Fall they had the selling point of a new format point to drag people back in for the Battle Rounds and for the Knockouts a completely new stage of the show. If we go back to season two the show saw a spike for the first Battle Round (presumably new audience drifting back to check out the next round) before it very quickly started losing momentum.

    Yeah, I realized that the format is no longer new, but people really liked it. Also, I’ve been comparing this season to season three, because the ratings for seasons three and four are more similar than seasons two and four.

    BTW- The Sing-Off can air January-February in place of the Voice (a short winter season); The voice comes back the first week of March.

    I like Revolution , BUT for the show to work it needs to get even more gritty and brutal then it had been in season 1 ,

    For me the Knife to the throat and the really dark mode they have taken Giancarlo Esposito / Captain Tom Neville , actually works ,
    It also Thank God, they are letting the audience see what caused the power issue and more of the world,
    They really need to show more and not be afraid of letting us know what the future looks like, and put the focus of the story on the character , BUT , in a full fleshed out world

    Shakira rocks!

    NBC should have kept SMASH after THE VOICE. They shared a similar demo, and SMASH might have survived. REVOLUTION just keeps sinking, and will through May. It will be at THE EVENT ratings soon enough and be gone by Thanksgiving (yes, NBC will probably renew it this year, but it will die next!)

  • Petar Ivanov

    @Mon

    That is something different. I agree with you than. My bad sorry.

    I read that NBC are very high on two high concept shows the 6 gun and belive. If they can find two more shows like revolution fall ratings and with winter olympics they can fight for #1 network again.

    ps I really thing that they make these high concept shows like HBO high concept shows 10-13 episodes per season. That way they will keep it fresh and hyped/buzzed enough. And that is most important thing for that type of shows.

    ps2 If the make Revolution 10-13 episodes per season will be at least around 1.5-2.0 for 3-4 seasons if not more. Will has buzz and will be perfect. If they are greedy and try again two cycles will be lower.

    Viewers should keep in mind that a 10:00 program has to compete with DVR usage, On Demand, On Line viewing etc…..
    Many viewers simply change the channel to local news as well.
    This season almost any 10:00 program over a 1.5 is fairly safe. Around a 2.0 is definitely in good shape. A 2.2 like Revolution achieved last niight is still a hit.
    Some shows airing earlier cant manage to garner a 2.2.

    Its broadcast not cable. I think that is what stop Revolution to be more brutal/dark with blood etc. Not from US but think that in US laws are different for broadcast and cable and if cable shows can be that brutal broadcast can’t. That is why most high concept shows work better on cable. For example abc has zombies show returned now. But they can’t go so dark, bloody and hard as hbo amc and other cable tv channel can. As once somebody said about tera nova nobody wannt to watch dinosaurs that cann’t rip some heads off and so on. Some of the networks executives want more intense shows so can compete with cable but even shows like the following are too dark for network tv.

    Because Smash was a beacon of stability and high ratings out of The Voice…

    Have you watched even a single episode of The Following? More to the point having seen the first 4 episodes of Hannibal I can tell you that broadcast and more NBC restrictions absolutely are not what’s stopping Revolution from being darker or more brutal. People really have got to stop persisting with this notion that the broadcast networks can’t compete with the tone of cable content. Its not true. Not only do we have The Following and Hannibal this season but over the past couple of years we’ve had Scandal and The Good Wife. Have people paid any attention to some of the things those two shows have gotten away with whilst they’ve been on the air?

    Having said all that these are all just bells and whistles. The problem with Revolution isn’t that it isn’t dark or brutal enough. The problem is that its just not very good and it was obvious from the first 10 minutes of the pilot that the show wasn’t very good. It has a killer concept but the execution has been terrible from the get go. You can make it darker or more brutal or add rivers of blood and that won’t change the fact that the show isn’t very good. It doesn’t need to be darker it needs to be better.

  • Amy

    I don’t understand these changes they’ve made to Revolution. They’ve turned it into a primetime soap. I’m done.
