Univision’s Morning Show Ranks No. 1 in Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and San Francisco, Ahead of NBC’s “Today Show,” ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “CBS This Morning”


MIAMI – APRIL 11, 2013 – Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, has announced that its popular morning show, “Despierta América” (Wake-Up America), has ended Q1 2013 with double digit audience growth across key demographics over the same quarter last year. With nine consecutive months of year-over-year audience increases, “Despierta América” remains the fastest growing morning show, regardless of language, in the current 2012/2013 season versus its English-language broadcast counterparts.  This includes a February where “Despierta América” was the No. 1 morning show regardless of language in key markets including Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and San Francisco among Adults 18-49.

 

Univision’s overall growth surpassed that of its English-language morning show competition in a number of key demographics including Adults 18-49 (up +25% to 471,000) and Adults 25-54 (up +20% to 472,000).  In fact, among Adults 18-49, ABC’s “Good Morning America” (+1%), “CBS This Morning” (+2%) and NBC’s “Today Show” (-15%) were virtually flat or down in Q1 2013 compared to Q1 2012.

 

ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:

·         In Q1 2013, “Despierta America” grew its Total Viewers 2+ average by +27% and delivered its highest first quarter performance ever with 922,000 Total Viewers 2+.

 

·         “Despierta America” also generated year-over-year audience increases with young Adults 18-34 of +21% to 206,000.

 

·         On average, the “Despierta America” viewer was 13 years younger (43 years old) in Q1 2013 than its English-language morning show competition at ABC’s “Good Morning America” (58 years old), “CBS’ This Morning” (58 years old) and NBC’s “Today Show” (56 years old).

 

·         With more Hispanic viewers than ABC’s “Good Morning America,” “CBS This Morning” and NBC’s “Today Show” combined audience, “Despierta América” frequently welcomes Hollywood stars to its Miami studio – a must-stop for talent looking to reach a demographic responsible for 25 percent of all movie tickets sold. Recent celebrity guests have included Halle Berry, Mark Wahlberg and Jason Statham.
