mtvU TAKES VIEWERS INTO THE LIFE OF 3LAU WITH NEW DOCU-SERIES “ON MY WAY: JUSTIN BLAU,” PREMIERING APRIL 22
Series Follows Electronic Dance Music DJ and College Student Justin Blau As He Pursues His Rising Music Career
New York, NY (April 11, 2013) – mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, today announced that it will premiere a new docu-series featuring emerging electronic dance music DJ and producer Justin Blau, who performs under the name 3LAU. “On My Way: Justin Blau” follows the DJ, who has taken time off from his finance studies at Washington University to dedicate himself to his music career, following a string of successful bootlegs that landed on the Beatport and Hype Machine charts. The four episode, short-form series will premiere on April 22 at 12 p.m. ET/PT with new episodes debuting weekly on mtvU and mtvU.com. To watch a preview of the series, click here.
“On My Way: Justin Blau” will follow Justin’s pursuit of creating a career in electronic music and becoming his own artist. From dorm room piano sessions to performing across the country, Justin (aka 3LAU) will give viewers a close and personal account of every step along the way and why he’s prepared for what’s ahead. Every aspect of the DJ/producer’s life is out in the open, including his family life, background as a business major, and philanthropic work with the charity Pencils of Promise, in which he helps to build schools in developing countries.
Justin Blau’s foray into the world of dance music began at an early age. He taught himself to play the piano at age five, and eventually took up guitar and drums. He broke into the music scene as 3LAU in 2011 by releasing two hit bootlegs, “Girls Who Save the World” and “All Night Long.” He is known for his uniquely melodic take on dance music, and fast paced sets that blend samples together so flawlessly that it is difficult to differentiate between bootlegs, remixes, and originals. 3LAU has gained a dedicated fanbase from his extremely energetic and fine-tuned live performances, which he perfected on his 2012 headlining nationwide tour.
In the midst of his sonic success, 3LAU has found an incredibly inspiring way to pair two of his biggest passions, music and philanthropy, by working closely with the non-profit organization Pencils of Promise. 3LAU’s ultimate goal is to raise enough money to build three schools in developing countries through the charity. With the proceeds from his remix “Back to New”, 3LAU was able to raise the requisite $25,000 for the first school within only two months. For his most recent tour 3LAU donated $1 from each ticket sold at 22 shows to the cause, and raised over $10,000 towards building a second school.
This year will mark a fresh chapter for the young producer, as 3LAU will release his own original music for the first time. Dropping right in time for summer, 3LAU’s first big room single is slated for release on Hardwell’s Revealed Recordings.
