Emotional 90-Minute Premiere Episode Features Rapper DMX

“Iyanla: Fix My Life” returns to OWN’s primetime lineup Saturday, April 13, with a powerful 90-minute episode airing from 9-10:30 p.m. ET/PT.

In the emotional season premiere, spiritual coach Iyanla Vanzant travels to Yonkers, New York, the hometown of multi-platinum rapper and actor DMX. In one of the most controversial sessions of her career, tensions rise as Iyanla attempts to help the strained relationship between DMX and his 19-year-old son Xavier.  During the special 90-minute episode, DMX and Iyanla tackle additional topics, including drugs, women and his arrest record. Iyanla also sits down with DMX’s ex-wife, Tashera Simmons.

I was thoroughly disappointed in how Iyanla behaved as she tried to “Fix” DMX’s life. It was clear that she was not interested in trying to help a hurting family but that her focus was on herself and being heard. When she finally listened (I mean kept quiet, because it was obvious she was not listening) the healing process began to take place between DMX and his son, Xavier. As soon as she spoke again, things escalated. It was clear that Xavier wanted to reach out to his dad, but Iyanla kept that from happening. How sad to stop a hurting son from hugging his hurthing dad. Not once did she encourage Xavier nor Mr. Simmons to forgive ( a major healing ingredient). I was disappointed in how the show ended. I would never seek Iyanla’s counsel. The questions she asked made no sense. Her comments were not helpful. She had no compassion. Mr. Simmon’s has serious issues that I believe only Christ Jesus can heal him from, Iyanla did not know how to counsel Mr. Simmon nor his loved ones. What a shame for Iyanla, the so-call-relationship guru, to cause more harm to an already broken family. My husband could not believe how disrespectful Iyanla was. He kept shouting at the TV, “Lady, please! Let the man talk!” What a mess. Sorry.

I dont know what you were wathing. DMX was acting like typical manipulative drug addict. Iyanla clearly asked Xavier did he want to speak to his father alone and he replied,NO! At the conclusion Xavier did speak to his father,DMX ans said he wanted a relationship with him as long he was clean,DMZ being the not ready for detox tried to manipulate his son be pretending wwas asking for unreasonable conditions. Xavier wanting to deal with his father only if he is clean is not unreasonable!! This was riveting television, and the episode was great!

My husband and I completely agree with RL. We got so upset and were feeling just like DMX. It’s almost like they used DMX as a punching bag just to make them feel better. DMX once again got kicked while he was already down. Xavier has spent his whole life being manipulated by his mother. In the end it just seemed like Xavier went there to fight his mothers battle, not his own. Im surprised Iyanla didn’t detect how much Tashera reflected through Xavier. He really didn’t justify what his problem was with his father and how it wasn’t bad enough to keep him from asking for money. DMX needs, unconditional love, support, and acceptance. He was used again and that is so wrong. All for exposure and ratings, wow.
