Some folks have come to like playing "The Elimination Game" in our comments section for the Renew/Cancel Index posts, now you've got a post all your own to do it in.

If you're among the first people reading this post, and don't know how to play, hang on and I'm sure someone will explain it in the comments soon enough.

Go for it!

Elimination Game folks,

I think I have figured out how to create a page that will not have its comments closed automatically after 60 days.

Here it is:

Move your commenting over there and have fun.

To anyone wanting to play the game….it is for each network (but right now it’s only NBC that still remains, since the other networks have winners declared), and we also have All Stars categories by decades (80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s) which right now have ended but we’ll start the games over again soon. Also: Premium Cable shows and Basic Cable shows, and I think we’ll have an All Stars Cable category coming up.

To play, say with NBC’s game right now – you’d copy and paste the list from whomever voted before you and give 3 points to one show while taking 3 points from another show (in this case we have two shows left). When you have six or more shows on the list, you vote +3, -3, +2, -2, +1 and -1. If you have less than six shows but at least four remaining, you’d vote just +3, -3, +2 and -2. As some shows get down to zero points they get ELIMINATED. This is just for fun, and it shows the favorites and no-so-favorites of the voters. Also for fun, we like to submit show quotes from the network in question – and try to show the season and episode # so interested people might be able to track down that particular episode and watch it if they’d like to. If showing quotes with your votes, it might be best to keep each category in a separate post so they don’t get too long. Watch for if the person before you doesn’t vote in certain categories since you’ll want to vote from the most recent post, and check the math.

Have fun! We’ll import the game over from the previous thread soon.

Another rule for the game, I forgot to post above: You cannot vote more than once per category in 24 hours. So, the easiest thing to do is jot down the time of when you voted and then vote at that time again the next day (or later, but if you do then jot down the new time). You’re only voting once every 24 hours. Can’t vote at 11:59 pm and then vote again at 12:01 am just because it’s a new day. ;)

I didn’t post my new category show nominees last night, so I’ll do that now and get back to a morning vote time. I’m sorry Parks lost the game – my favorite show on the air. We could say it was the top NBC comedy, since it lost to a sci-fi drama and we don’t separate the genres within the categories.

    Basic Cable:
    COUGAR TOWN
    PSYCH
    ARCHER
    BREAKING BAD
    MAD MEN
    THE WALKING DEAD
    DROP DEAD DIVA
    HOT IN CLEVELAND

    CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM
ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT (Netflix for new episodes)

Will give this a try :)

    NBC

    REVOLUTION – 48(-3)
    PARKS & REC – 3(+3)

    GAME OF THRONES – 36 (+3)
    DEXTER – 14 (-3)

  • sarah nz

    * so once something reaches zero it’s toast ?
Sorry skip read your last post Rebecca… but GoT still lives :)

  • sarah nz

Another question – do the shows all need to be dead before being nominated ?
(ie, if I wanted to vote for NCIS for example I could do that for the ’10s catagory as it is still ongoing (or 00′s when it was much better ?))

Also sorry again – the rules for NBC were right in front of me and still managed to misread :(

  • couchpotato

    Premium Cable

    GAME OF THRONES – 39 (+3)
    DEXTER – 11 (-3)

  • Rebecca

    @sarah nz
Once a show is down to zero points and there’s one show still remaining on the list, then, yeah, the game is over and in NBC’s case this time Revolution won. The “dead” shows on any nomination list, that’s just for the All Stars game (which maybe will start soon – I think so far Ricky and I are the only ones who nominated anything). That’s why we can nominate 30 Rock for the 10s list, since the show has ended. The “regular” games like the NBC one that just ended will start up again with ALL current shows. So CBS’s game will have NCIS when it starts off, until it runs out of points, for example. So when it’s a show you know is currently on the regular (non-cable) networks it’ll be in the regular game when it starts, no need to nominate them. Each show will start off with a certain number of points so they start out equal (I think it’s 10).

    @Ricky
Maybe we should go ahead and start the new games? That way they might finish by the May upfronts.

  • Rebecca

Oh, and I said “non-cable” before because with the Basic and Premium Cable show lists (current shows), those aren’t all the shows that currently exist on cable – they are shows we nominated for the game some time in the previous thread.

  • Ricky

@Rebecca: Yeah, sure, we’ll reboot the game now. GoT will be the un-official winner for the previous premium cable game, with Dexter in 2nd place. We’ll start with ABC right now…
