@JEff Great points. People act like ABC spent all this money but they didn’t do much at all. Even funnier is all the people who claim to know what ABC is thinking. Now all I’ve heard ABC say is positive things about GH. During the Frons era you never heard him say anything positive about the soaps. Now that he is gone as president of ABC daytime and someone who enjoys GH is in charge of the daytime division it makes a difference.

Again though GH has increased its yearly viewership over the past few months to 1/2 million more viewers than they had a year ago. No prime time show can boast that. GH is also ABC’s (and note I said ABC’s) number 1 show in the key demos of 18-49, 25-54, and 18-34.

Unlike the haters I prefer to see all the positives and there are plenty of them.

The dismal DOOL ratings show that it still has problems. As a previous poster said storylines are taking too long to resolve themselves. I think they are trying to create a psyhcodrama, but we do need some action as well. I’ve watched for 25 years but even I find myself getting distracted watching it.

I am enjoing BB and YR, though. I had concerns that BB would suffer the loss of Stephanie and Ridge, but it it shows nobody is irreplaceable with good writing. Great acting from Heather Tom (Katie), but wierd character change for Caroline.

@Mike. Thanks for sharing Corben Bernsen tweet. I will be thinking of Jeanne.

  • PatF

It is terrible news about Jeanne. I cannot imaging watching the show without her. I have noticed she’s appeared pretty fragile since her last illness. I pray she’ll be okay.

  • Wow

For those complaining that GH did not hit 3 million…take a look at Monday and Fridays ratings…it came pretty darn close, and again, this is not including other means of viewership. It does not take brain science to figure out why GH averaged 3 million during the holidays….more people are home and not working during that time. Lots of people work when these shows air, and have no choice but to watch at other times via different mediums.

i watch Days, i cant stand The View or the chew

  • Jeff

Poor Jeanne Cooper. She’s a pretty fiesty broad, and I hope she makes a speedy recovery.

  • Dmitri

Days is horrible now, not surprised the ratings suck. EJami is nasty and Dannifer are boring. Yawn, I am not watching, just reading recaps.

I wonder if “Days” has changed up its filming schedule. Based on past information, “Days” was about six months between writing and when that material airs, and about 3 or 4 months between filming and airing.

According to Soaps.com, “Days” is looking to cast the role of “Derek” a new “good-looking, confident, and mysterious” character in his late 20s. The role begins filming later in April or May and those scenes will start airing in June. That time frame puts the time difference between filming and airing at within a span of two months. Personally, I don’t think soaps should film more than 6 weeks ahead of time. This would make it easier to edit or change storylines in the event of real life events (like when OLTL had to change or drop a school shooting storyline around the time of the Virginia Tech shooting) and allow the soaps to know which stories an audience likes or dislikes. With a long lag time between writing/filming and airing, if a storyline is unpopular, producers have little choice but to keep the storyline on the air, which could alienate unhappy viewers, who could possibly tune out.

Hi JayTN how are you this fine wonderful day. Why don’t you just admit last summer you and your buddy Richard used to point out how the 18-49 number is the number that matters. You know you said it Jay my good friend and associate! :-)

  • David

    wow this should be great

One of the most talented stars ever to grace daytime television is on her way to Port Charles, New York, according to several sources. We’re hearing As The World Turns and The Young and the Restless alum Maura West is joining the cast of ABC Daytime’s General Hospital in a top secret role.

  • Derrick

Yes I did hear about Jeanne Cooper and I hope and pray she gets well! We don’t want to lose a legend!!! :(

  • JayTN

David…I asked you to please provide proof that I said anything about the 18-49 numbers. When you provide that proof then we can talk. I didn’t say it, so I’m not making any plans to admit anything.

I’ll make a bet with you, friend. Why don’t you admit that you predicted GH would be over 3 million viewers on a regular basis and challenge Y&R for first place. Once you do that, all say – for the first time – that the networks use the 18-49 demographic to set their advertising rates. Just waiting on you, buddy. ;-)

I agree with Dmitri that “Days” is not as good as it could be right now. I don’t think it’s as bad as Dmitri does, but I had higher hopes for Gary Tomlin and Chris Whitesell.

That scene in the male strip club on Friday was (unintentionally) funny, though. I’ve never been to a club like that, but I’m pretty sure that the performers are wearing less clothing than the boxer shorts that the stripper was wearing on stage. I don’t expect a daytime soap to show the skimpy outfits like “Magic Mike”, but some of the male actors on “Days” have shown more skin during their sex scenes.

  • Dmitri

Jay, I did like the stripper scenes, they were funny. I am hoping that Chad and Abby get back together, as they have so ,uch chemistry and remind me of Jack and Jennifer. Cam and Abby also have chemistry, but are pretty dull.

  • robert

It’s good the soaps are up from last year. Praying for Jeanne Cooper, the show is not the same without her.

David & Jay: Please Shut Up!…or get a room for the weekend.
You both come across like 11-year-old girls on Facebook. What little you might offer in the way of information or background is completely negated by your tiresome b!tchiness. Really, enough is enough.

GH WAS GREAT THIS WEEK DANTE LOOKING LIKE A BADASS THIS WEEK I HOPE THIS WEEKS RATINGS WENT UP ITS BEEN GREAT

  • bizzarr1000

20/20 THING ABC DIDNT HAVE TO DO THAT IT SHOW TO ME ABC WANT TO KEEP GH JUST SAYING BRENDA AND MICHAEL IN BED WAS A WTF MOMENT BRENDA RUBING IT IN CARLY FACE WAS FUNNY TELL MICHAEL HE LEFT THIS IN MY ROOM FUNNY IM NOT A BRENDA FAN BUTT THIS WEEK I WAS

  • JayTN

Dmitri…I agree that the writers need to find something for Chad to do. He hasn’t really done anything since his drama with Gabi ended. Until his little adventures with Abigail last week, I don’t think he’s been seen more than once or twice since the whole “Will got Gabi pregnant” reveal.

  • David

The funny thing is i never said GH would beat Young and The Restless but say what oyu want Jay you crack me up my friend You get so mad when I say anything positive about GH or disagree with you. It used to be only me posting here as being behind GH, now that a lot more people are watching there are more here supporting the show. And you get angry when they post also. BUt again keep it up my good friend always enjoyable to laugh at your hating.

GH had a great 50th anniversary. They have some great stuff still to come this month, May sweeps and beyond. And really looking forward to Maura West joining the show as well.
