This will be my final comment to you, David, but I did not even mention GH until you brought up my name and your unproven allegations. I’m perfectly content to talk about things other than GH, seeing as how I don’t watch it and don’t really care how it is performing. The only reason I responded to your rant was because I don’t like being accused of doing or saying things that I have not done.

My only comment to IowaMan is to take your own advice. This is a free country and we are excersizing our First Amendment rights. If you don’t like that, too bad.

  • Sophie

I agree with David, GH is so good right now. The writing is the best it’s been in a while. Go David!!!! And I agree with how bad Days is, I like the old writers
    MarDar alot better!

  • David

@Sophie thanks i know you and many others feel the same way. The haters like JayTN don’t like but oh well.

I used to watch Days but was not enjoying it so I stopped. Unlike the haters though I do not come on here and insult Days or its fans. I am glad they enjoy it.

I also recently tried Y&R when Steve Burton joined. I didn’t know the characters and found the show slow paced. Again just not a show for me. But I am glad it is doing well and its fans are enjoying it.

Back to GH though it is so good with so much good writing and surprises. Stories keep you invested and I look forward to it every day. Go GH

  • Kelby

Y&R and DOOL continue to go downhill. I am not interested in any of it. The good that there is gets drowned out by the bad.

  • Sophie

I was a big Days fan, and quit watching it around July. I just tune in and read the boards. It doesn’t seem like the fans are happy with it, by the boards. I’ve
watched GH almost when it started, and I know it’s been the best lately, and It makes me happy. I love all the vets being back, it’s like the good ole days in the 80’s.. I love the new writers. They are really good. Good love stories on GH!!!!!

Eileen Davidson belongs on Y&R and sony knows it so why dont you let her do both shows nowlike you wanted to in the first place she is sooo needed on y&r right now and in the long run lets face it she belongs on y&r there is only so much she can do as Kristin but with Ashley there is so much more

  • bill40

am i the only one who believes that Eileen Davidson belongs on Y&R I will fight forever to have her back on Y&R and i mean FOREVER I LOVE YOU Eileen and I hope you see this post

NBC does somewhat beleive in Days. Recently while watching Days a commercial showed up advertising for a new reality series-Ready for Love. The two people introducing the preview was none other then EJ and Sami. NBC must think that having advertised this show during Days would lure viewers to this new show. I do not think there is anything wrong with Days that needs fixing. I love it and can not wait to see the next episode. I love the mystery and tension. Wish there were more action, otherwise I think it is hot. Those two posters who argue about the ratings and such should find something else better to do with their time, like watching Days. It will help them get their fustrations out. Great news for GH regarding ratings, but I fear after all the hoopla their numbers will drop as ratings increased in September for Days as veterans returned then dropped. Days keeps on realizing that it must be made for the 21st century. Keeping up with the times. I think that Days is the only soap with a male gay character. Y&R introduced a gay character, Adam, then made him straight, I hate, hate those types of stories. Gay is Gay. Y & R chickened out, not Days, and it is working in their favourite as posters keep commentting that they like the Will and Sonny storyline. Keep up with the great work Days and NBC and ratings will improve. Thanks for the support for your fans of Days. Eileen Davidson is enjoying her time on Days. You can tell by her acting. She also won on emmy while on Days.

please frank and ron keep are beloved Jackie zeman on the show . the show feels like home again with luke laura and bobbi get rid of Brenda already.

  • PatF

Actually Adam wasn’t gay…he pretended to be gay with Rafe so he could use him.

And Y and R had two gay characters…Rafe (the lawyer) and Phillip, however neither were really written for. Phillip came back to announce he was gay, and then was written out. That was during MAB.

The show is soooo much better right now.

Y and R has always been a well written show that develops its stories slowly. Someone mentioned it moved too slow above, BUT that’s Y and R and that’s probably why it continues to do well in the ratings. In fact the increases recently are because it’s getting back to its roots with its slow, dramatic character driven stories.

Anyone who wants action, explosions, murders, etc. will probably have to watch another soap. We don’t want that on Y and R.

  • Mike

PatF — that is what I love about Y&R. Down through the years even when the stories were slow you could be fascinated by the inner workings of the characters. That is my kind of drama. I just love character motivated drama and stories. It just makes it more interesting for me when plot builds out of characters actions rather than characters always reacting to the plots around them.

That was my biggest problem with Maria Bell. Characters were just doing stuff that never made any sense. It was for dramatic effect and shock value and it never worked. And even the writers were committed to it.

Just like the mentions you made with Rafe, Philip, and Adam. They were only gay when it fit the plot and then it was forgotten about.

Just saw posted at Soap Opera Network that Days of Our Lives has been cancelled in Australia after 45 years.

I know that it will have no influence as far as NBC’s budget for the show, but I do wonder if it will effect the money Sony and Corday use for the show. Sony and Corday are the ones that would benefit from the foreign revenue. Now they will be losing that in addition to the revenue they will lose when SoapNet finally shuts down for good.

  • jayTN

PatF/Mike…I agree about Y&R and gay characters. I don’t think Adam was ever really meant to be gay (maybe bisexual, but not gay) and I cannot even remember the last time Rafe was shown, while Philip is in Australia, I believe.

I think there was a rumor that the writers were going to make Fen Baldwin gay (around the same time the character was aged and recast), but I don’t know if that was just a rumor or if plans were dropped due to the change in writers/producers or merely postponed.

On a separate note, I just saw were “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” will be televised in Canada. This is probably due to Canadian viewers not being able to watch on-line as U.S. viewers can. I know there has been a lot of chatter about having a cable network air AMC and OLTL here in the U.S., but Prospect Park probably wants people to only watch on the On-Line Network (OLN), and showing the two soaps on television will probably be counter productive to enticing people to watch OLN, which Prospect Park owns.

  • Mike

    Jay TN,

I have not been following the news too closely lately on the revivals. But has the info changed that the shows will be on the On-Line Network now.

The last I had heard or read was that they would only be available in the US on Hulu and Hulu Plus and Itunes for download. Canadian viewers were not able to access the shows on any of those venues.

I thought it was decided that the On-Line Network would only offer information. Has that changed?

  • JayTN

Mike…I’m not exactly sure how The Online Network is going to operate. If you go to TOLN’s website (theonlinenetwork.com), there is a countdown clock counting down the days, minutes, and seconds until AMC and OLTL return. There is very little else on the site.

The AMC and OLTL Wikipedia pages uses the terminology “The Online Network via Hulu, Hulu Plus and iTunes” when describing how the two shows will be broadcast.

I had assumed that you could watch AMC and/or OLTL on TOLN at a particular time (like you would if it aired on ABC) or you could watch it anytime on Hulu or iTunes. I don’t know if that is how it will work or not.

  • Jennifer

I don’t watch GH anymore or any ABC soaps since they canceled All My Children. ABC and GH can kiss my butt! I do watch DAYS on my lunch hour as it comes on at 1 pm here in the west. I have grown to like it. I am not as familiar with some of the Brady and Dimera and Horton family history but it seems to be a pretty good with story telling!

  • Eddie

I love Eileen Davidson as Kristin!! Kristin is savvy, no-good, funny, and I think she is played by Eileen Davidson so well!! As for Ashley , I think Eileen Davidson seemed boring and washed up, she had been playing Ashley for so many years. It was time for her to make a change. I hope she stays at DAYS for a long time!!! Good Job Eileen Davidson!!!

  • PatF

Mike…yes, I think that is what a lot of Y and R fans have loved about the show since its debut.

I know some started watching around the time that LML (2006) or MAB (2007/2008) were at the helm, but they both failed to maintain Y and R’s essence. The show is far from perfect, but the writing is back to being character driven.

With people’s short attention spans and need for immediate results, the show may not maintain its current rating, but I don’t see it falling to the MAB levels this time last year.

  • Scott_N_ATL

I want to see the day that GH takes over #2 in the demo and then #1 again…GO GH! Take it on like Road Runner! MEEP MEEP!

  • Ray-El

Generally, I love what GH has been doing in the writing department. But I didn’t think the writing was as strong during the Nurse’s Ball week. There were too many things that didn’t work for me… like the Richard Simmons bit, Sabrina’s weak makeover, Helena’s quick and easy “death,” and Anna just letting Luke and Laura go after Lulu alone. But I really enjoyed the twist with Brit and her crazy mom, and seeing Lulu get frozen, and seeing Brenda hit Carly in the head with that dinner roll. That was hysterical. She has such nerve! GH needs more crazy cat fights to attract more male viewers. I’d love to see Connie versus Brenda!!
