The daily Caller has a good story On MSNBC’s Mike Barnicle

MSNBC’s Barnicle suggests dropping ‘War on Terror’ for ‘Daily Duel with Terror’

On Tuesday’s “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, co-host Mike Barnicle suggested that, given the nation’s short attention span, it may be time to drop the idea of an ongoing, long-term ‘War on Terror.’

“Our attention span increasingly as a society is shorter and shorter. Sept. 11 seems to some people as if it were 200 years ago. We have the phrase War on Terror.

Do you think it is perhaps now necessary as we ease into the second decade of the 21 century, that we reinforce with people in this country that it is ‘a Daily Duel with Terror’? Not a War on Terror — a ‘Daily Duel with Terror.’”

    Good for you Mike…

Perverted Priorities: The Editorial Hypocrisy Of Fox News

In recent days Fox News has ramped up coverage of the Philadelphia trial of an @bortion doctor accused of numerous horrific crimes. To be clear, the spike in coverage was not about the underlying facts of the case or the suffering of the patients. It was about Fox’s contention that the prosecution has been ignored by a liberal press corps for political reasons.

All these press conferences, and statements from the WH including President Obama, why is it I feel like I know less now than right after the explosions?

Saudi terror cell, possibly al Qaeda, behind Boston Marathon bombings. Manhunt for escaped suspect

  • Doug Z

    d.d. I went there, Wow

FBI Special Agent Richard Deslauriers told reporters Tuesday, April 16, that the probe had no leads 18 hours after two explosions blew up at the annual Boston Marathon’s finishing line, killing three people and injuring 176 – 17 critically. debkafile’s counterterrorism sources can disclose however that the investigation has in fact homed in on a suspected terror cell of three Saudi nationals, very possibly tied to Al Qaeda.
The flat they share in the Revere, Massachusetts, near Boston, was searched after the questioning of one of the suspects, a Saudi student, who was hospitalized with badly burned hands. One of his flatmates was taken into custody over “visa problems.” A third is on the run. All three hail fr

  • Doug Z

All three hail from a prominent Saudi family belonging to a tribe from the Asir province bordering on Yemen.

I am just posting, not blaming. Do we have to go out of the country to get our news.

Maybe Big SIS should forget this policy change, Secretary Janet Napolitano reached an agreement in January with a top Saudi official to begin work on granting Global Entry status to Saudi Arabian citizens, allowing “pre-approved, low-risk travelers” to pass through customs more quickly in the United States at major U.S. airport

  • Dreamer

Our local station had a story about pundits and rumors.
    It ended with this,

Amidst all the speculation and rumor-mongering, comedian Patton Oswalt posted a statement on Facebook that addressed the culprits of the Boston bombing, as well as the rumor-mongering that has arisen as a result of the attack.

“I don’t know what’s going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths,” he wrote. “But here’s what I DO know. If it’s one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet.”

He added: “So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, ‘The good outnumber you, and we always will.'”

  • Doug Z

My question for the despotic Obama admin regarding this latest horror as well as Fort Hood, Bengazi and Fast n Furious is: what part of explosive mass murder with flying limbs and blood letting mayhem doesn’t fit the dictionary definition of “TERROR”? C’mon dimbulbs, enlighten me please.

  • Coffee Steve

    @d.d.
you might want to read the DEBKA file for their take

Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if this wasn’t true d.d.

Within minutes of the explosions I was seeing reports of “Saudi Nationals” buzzing on the net, on the news services and my little news feed. But as quick as they appeared, they vanished.

Could be the FBI wanted to not alert the cell and make them more likely to make a mistake or even hopefully trace some calls they were making. I do find it strangely odd that foreign news sources are publishing these.

Our media is soft anymore and feel like they must not rustle feathers instead of doing their jobs and getting the info to the public.

    *EXPLOSIVES MADE OF PRESSURE COOKERS
These types of pressure cooker explosives have been used in Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Pakistan, according to a July 2010 joint FBI and Homeland Security intelligence report. One of the three devices used in the May 2010 Times Square attempted bombing was a pressure cooker, the intelligence report said.

“Placed carefully, such devices provide little or no indication of an impending attack,” the report said

(And is it just me or isn’t it odd that The Pakistani Taliban, which claimed responsibility for the 2010 attempt in Times Square, has denied any role in the Boston Marathon attack? Within Minutes they were denying the attack.)

    Reuters’ Climate Change Drudge Bait

Reuters is purporting to examine how scientists are “struggling” to reconcile short-term temperature variation with long-term climate change, but fails to quote any scientists about the issue.

In an article titled “Climate scientists struggle to explain warming slowdown” that is being promoted by the Drudge Report, Reuters claimed that short-term temperature variability “has exposed gaps” in scientists’ understanding of climate change. However, the article didn’t quote a single scientist about the temperature trends, instead talking to environmental contrarian and business school professor Bjorn Lomborg and economist Richard Tol, considered a conservative estimator of climate damages, to sow doubt about the quality of climate science (Reuters quoted Dr. Paul Holland, a British Antarctic Survey scientist, about a separate topic at the end of the report).

Perhaps due to this, Reuters characterized the time period since 2000 as a “pause in warming,” without mentioning that it included the warmest decade on record or that each of the 12 years since the turn of the century have ranked among the 14 warmest on record.

Additionally, while Reuters suggested that short-term temperature variations could be “a more lasting phenomenon,” the long-term trend of rising temperatures is clear, and research remains consistent on estimates of how much the Earth would warm in response to a doubling of carbon dioxide — somewhere in the range of 2°C to 4.5°C, or about 3.5°F to 8°F.

Reuters offered one example of the kind of uncertainty that has allegedly caused “trust in climate science” to decline: the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’s 2010 correction of an estimate of the decline of Himalayan glaciers. However, the IPCC’s error was a mere typo, which did not undermine either the clear global trend of glacier melt or the broader veracity of climate change.

And while Reuters stated that “Weak economic growth and the pause in warming is undermining governments’ willingness to make a rapid billion-dollar shift from fossil fuels,” many think that uncertainty about exactly how severe that warming will be should prompt a more aggressive approach to reducing the greenhouse gases driving climate change. Indeed, in an email to Media Matters, the economist quoted in the story, Tol, stated that he told Reuters that higher uncertainty actually leaves him “more concerned about climate change”:

Lower confidence means greater uncertainty. The probability that nothing much is the matter has gone up, but so has the probability that things could be much worse. Therefore, I am actually more concerned about climate change now than I was.
