Don't Trust The B---- has already been devoured by the cancellation bear. Happy Endings may live on with a cable net, but it's certain to be canceled by ABC. What about the next three higher rated ABC sitcoms?

Malibu Country averaged a 1.3 rating for new episodes since March 1.

Last Man Standing averaged a 1.5 rating since March 1.

The Neighbors averaged a 1.5 rating since March 1.

Of those three, the bear is most confident in the renewal of Last Man Standing. It's a second year show, airing on Friday which carries some level of low ratings forgiveness, and has matched The Neighbors ratings since March 1.

Based on the early relative success of How To Live With Your Parents, and The Neighbors relatively weak ratings since March 1, the bear is now moving The Neighbors back to a "toss up" for cancellation or renewal.

The bear still likes The Neighbors chances better than those of Malibu Country though, and would give it the least chance for renewal out of the three.

Our final up or down guesses for all shows still with uncertain fates will come on May 7.

Rookie sitcom How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest Of Your Life) is also in the mix for renewal, but its current ratings are high enough to put it well out of the range of those other three.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, the "old" Fall predictions will carry over.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

That’s where Family Tools will go.

  • Fred

I have a strong feeling Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D will be strong enough to succeed just about anywhere on ABC’s schedule.
Disney’s Big Thunder (if it get picked up) is a more risky proposition.
Both these family oriented shows (along with OUAT) might work well together. Just very difficult find a suitable 3 hour block.

  • Lynn

@Dan are you an idiot? ABC is not guaranteed to put SHIELD on Thursday 8. That would be a stupid idea and thy know it. It should be put on Tuesdays but it will most likely end up on Sunday in-between Once and Revenge.

  • Chris

Hope Body of Proof gets renewed, such a great show! Same for Revenge! :)

  • The End

I agree. I think Sundays will be

    Once – 8pm
    Sheild – 9pm
    Revenge/New show 10pm

Its a good show. One show that is funny without trying hard or having to resort to sex and pushing the boundaries of the censors.
How to live with your parents is not that funny and all it is is pushing for more sex. Neighbors was fun and it was so much different then what else was on. Modern family the middle and the neighbors are good. MC i liked but it wasnt that great and it seemed like the story line didnt really go anywhere. I liked lilly tomlin in it but again id keep neighbors before MC.

Do u think abc is going to put the SHIELD aganist football+awards shows+winter Olympics

  • Fred

I originally wanted S.H.I.E.L.D. on Sunday. But I was convinced otherwise. Although it would probably perform OK there despite the heavy competition.
ABC should try and build up Tuesday with S.H.I.E.L.D.

  • JLC

How’s this for some quality fan excuse bingo? No sitcom about living with a wacky alien has ever lasted less than 3 seasons:

    My Favorite Martian: 3 seasons

    Mork & Mindy: 4 seasons

    Alf: 4 seasons

3rd Rock from the Sun: 6 seasons

Ergo, The Neighbors will be renewed for at least the next two seasons.

  • Bern

Cancel The Neighbors and renew Mailbu Country. Lily Tomlin and Jai Rodriguez are hilarious!

  • Richard Steven Hack

I still see BoP as likely canceled, but I can see some hope that it will be renewed as it was this year – a spring show with 13 episodes. Since there are financial factors we don’t know about, there is a possibility of renewal. Ratings wise, however, the show probably should be canceled. It’s unlikely to claw back to 2.0 as it did in its last two or three episodes last year.

And there is no syndication potential, as the show is way short of necessary episodes.

zerg: “Do u think abc is going to put the SHIELD aganist football+awards shows+winter Olympics”

Networks put shows they think are going to be good against competition against competition, by definition.

Now, whether SHIELD is GOING to be good against competition, that’s another story. I’m ambivalent about the show’s chances myself. The cast isn’t high-powered enough in my opinion (much as I like Clark Gregg and Ming Na), and it’s not clear what the story arcs might be. I’m suspecting the show will premiere high, then drop like a stone.

  • gerry

if abc puts a new show at 9 pm on sunday, they are basically throwing away the time period because the competition at that time is crazy stiff. revenge felt it as the year dragged on and it already had a following. i like the idea of a reality show in that space if they move revenge as someone mentioned.

a new show at 9 pm sundayr would be a harder sell than a new show at 10 and abc can’t even make that work.

  • rob60990

About time you downgraded The Neighbors.

  • Dan

@Rob60990 – I agree, The Neighbors looked promising (ratings wise) when it was ABC’s only single camera comedy to debut this season and the highest rated new comedy on all networks (After Go On sunk)

@Lynn – No, ABC would not put a new show like SHIELD Sundays at 9. They are known to put high profile shows Thursdays at 8 and shows that show promise (FlashForward and Charlie’s Angels) Revenge will remain at 9 next season because consistency for Sundays is important and because due to the popularity of the Avengers, SHIELD would work better on Thursdays then Sundays. It wont be going up against any dramas and it might draw interest initially (and hopefully it will stick all season)

  • HV

The Neighbors: about time! Unless HTLWYP performs horribly this Wednesday The Neighbors is dead. I cannot believe that you think that The Neighbors has more renewal chance than Malibu Country. The Neighbors has performed barely better between The Middle and Modern Family than Malibu Country has on a friday after Last Man Standing.

  • Dan

@Richard Steven Hack – Body of Proof could be like the next Rules of Engagement where it keeps coming back midseason and does better then the show it replaced when it returns. It has performed better than everyone of ABC’s new shows even tying Nashville. Its a situation where its not doing horribly enough for ABC to definitely cancel but its not doing amazing. ABC could bring it back if their Pilots don’t look promising or hold it to midseason.

If Nashville gets renewed I expect ABC to move it to Sundays at 10, assuming all other ABC dramas remain in their current slots new dramas will premiere Tuesdays at 10, Wed at 10, and Thurs at 8. With SHIELD likely airing Thursday at 8. ABC could either bring back BOP to Tuesdays at 10, or if they want to premiere a new drama in that slot, hold it for midseason and if a new show flops and gets yanked quickly, ABC could quickly plug in BOP. Its the Lone Star/Lie to Me domino effect of 2010. I could see ABC airing BOP Fridays at 9 or 10 should they still want to renew it.

As for SHIELD, you might be right in terms of the series starting out great and dropping like a lead balloon but despite the stars not being high profile, its rare that any drama is. That wont matter with SHIELD. Its the tie in with the Marvel movies that may bring attention. Its a risk that ABC should take against Big Bang and X Factor and it could be the show that breaks the Thursday 8pm curse.

  • Cally

I was a BoP fan from the beginning, and was excited for its return, but didn’t know they would actually kill of the one dude AND replace both cops. Unfortunately, they aren’t doing it for me, so I gave up on it.

  • Kate

According to your schedule, you think that ABC should renew Nashville and Revenge, yet cancel the higher rated Castle?
