Don't Trust The B---- has already been devoured by the cancellation bear. Happy Endings may live on with a cable net, but it's certain to be canceled by ABC. What about the next three higher rated ABC sitcoms?

Malibu Country averaged a 1.3 rating for new episodes since March 1.

Last Man Standing averaged a 1.5 rating since March 1.

The Neighbors averaged a 1.5 rating since March 1.

Of those three, the bear is most confident in the renewal of Last Man Standing. It's a second year show, airing on Friday which carries some level of low ratings forgiveness, and has matched The Neighbors ratings since March 1.

Based on the early relative success of How To Live With Your Parents, and The Neighbors relatively weak ratings since March 1, the bear is now moving The Neighbors back to a "toss up" for cancellation or renewal.

The bear still likes The Neighbors chances better than those of Malibu Country though, and would give it the least chance for renewal out of the three.

Our final up or down guesses for all shows still with uncertain fates will come on May 7.

Rookie sitcom How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest Of Your Life) is also in the mix for renewal, but its current ratings are high enough to put it well out of the range of those other three.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, the "old" Fall predictions will carry over.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I don’t understand people who leave DWTS where it is on their fantasy schedules since it is falling apart against the voice. I also have a hard time with those still arguing for serialized dramas on Sundays. Unfortunately, I think there is a very high chance that ABC itself also fails to correct these issues.

  • rob60990

@omabin, because ABC won’t do it. Thats why.

  • Justin121

The Middle – Suburgatory – Modern Family – New Comedy

The Neighbors – How to Live – Last Man – Malibu Country

  • Fred

Nobody likes when their favorite shows move to Friday. But keep in mind expectations are much lower. So it might not be so bad.

  • The End

Correct on all counts. Once Upon a Time is a Sunday show. Revenge can be too, ABC needs to put something new with these shows on Sunday, certainly Shield would be a fantastic lead in for Revenge, and may improve the numbers drastically.

I think we’re all in agreement here that next seasons schedule for Sunday will be mostly the same, with the addition of at most one extra show.

I think with a strong storyline for Season 3, Once will retain it’s audience better, and will likely build for further success. Season 2 has been rather hit or miss lately, and thankfully the show isn’t beyond saving, it’s still pulling reasonable numbers, and just needs to claw back a few extra viewers :)

Sheild being a male skewing drama may not get so much support from OUAT and be a support to RVG.. Sandwiching SHEILD in between OUAT & RVG can drastically affect the rating of both SHEILD & RVG… whats say??

  • Jon

move revenge back to wednesday at 10 where it belongs

  • The End

How do you know Shield will be heavily male skewed? It’s based in the same universe as The Avengers. It’l have female fans too.

  • Kissan

This is my fantasy schedule for Fall 2013:

    8:00-Once Upon A Time

I really want to see how OUAT will do on a weekday, but I think it should stay on Sundays, as it’s doing okay there. I also think Revenge should stay on Sundays at 9, it’s not doing GREAT ratings but I think it’s doing really good against all these other Sunday shows, plus I don’t think ABC is gonna move Revenge to a new day AGAIN. I think Nashville will also do good there as since the beginning of the season everybody was complaining it should be on Sundays. I also think its compatible with Revenge.

Leave it like this. Don’t fix anything that’s not broken.

    8:00-SHIELD(new drama)

10:00-Body Of Proof or new drama

I think SHIELD will do fine against NCIS, a CW show and those little FOX comedies. The only competition that it’ll probably have is The Voice. Of course keep DWTS where it is, as it can’t do well against The Voice. BOP might peek in a renewal or a new drama might go there and BOP might come back midseason.

    8:00-The Middle

    9:00-Modern Family

    10:00-(new drama)

Keep Middle and Modern Family where they are. I seriously think ABC needs to keep HTLWYPFTROYL at 9:30 and let it grow. This show helped Nashville a little so it could help a new drama at 10:00. Let Suburgatory stay at 8:30 as its doing fine there and is helping out Modern Family.

    8:00-Grey’s Anatomy

    10:00-Betrayal(new drama)

I’m sorry GA fans but I really think ABC should take these risks and move GA to 8 and Scandal to 9 with a new drama at 10. GA already have their own fanbase and it’s female skewing so I think it will do good against TBBT and another CBS comedy. X Factor, TVD and those little NBC comedies can’t do nothing to it so I think it will do fine. Scandal is doing well so now it’ll be the test to see if it can hold that fanbase and be a good lead in to a new drama.

    8:00-Last Man Standing

8:30-Malibu Country(Sept to Dec) new comedy(Jan to May)

    9:00-Shark Tank

As usually leave it as it is. Its king of Fridays.

    Any thoughts?

  • Fred

    That is a reasonable schedule.

However Scandal might be to risqué for a 9:00 slot.

  • Boiler

Justin121 I like your Friday lineup. Can’t go wrong with Reba. I don’t see how Body of Proof gets cancelled.

  • Thilia

Body of Proof has been a mess from the start. 9 of the original 13 episodes aired, then they ran Season 2 out of order. The third season started with too many new characters. Everyone from previous seasons aside from Dana have had their roles become very limited and the season will finish with a total episode count of 42 episodes.

If ABC wants a chance at syndication for the show, they would need to produce a 24 episode final season. It takes the episode count to 66 episodes and will likely have a shot. They could air it behind both the Fall and Spring editions of DWTS and with a minimal budget and potential tax credit, it could pay off.

  • kendra

The Neighbors is brilliant, I hope it gets a new season!

  • rob60990

@Kissan, ABC will want to launch a new comedy or 2 in the fall.

  • xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

i love this quirky comedy.. maybe syfy or someone else can pick it up if abc drops it..

  • Cle

    @The End

I was just assuming.. bt I think ABC won’t give 9pm Sunday slot to any new show.. I think as Kissan said sunday line up will consist of OUAT,RVG & Nshvll..

  • omabin

ABC’s comedy situation is probably one of the hardest ones to predict this season, especially scheduling wise. I have a very hard time predicting what they will do, mostly because what they will do and what I think they should do are vastly different things. For instance, I would not put comedies on tuesdays at all next season, but that also creates a problem to me in terms of having nowhere to premiere new comedies, since I also advocate for Wednesdays and Fridays being left alone.

    My rough predictions:
    – The Middle, MF, HTLWYP: Stay put where they are on Wednesdays
    – HE: Moved to a cable network
    – The Neighbors: Canceled
    – LMS, MC: Stay put where they are on Fridays

Then, I think it will be one out of these two things:
    – They pursue the idea of a comedy block on Tuesdays and debut two new comedies there, hoping that they are self starters. Suburgatory gets to keep the Wednesdays at 8h30 timeslot
    – They finally give up on a Tuesday comedy block and launch only one new comedy in the fall, Wednesdays at 8h30. Suburgatory is held for midseason, and is officially the new cougar town.

I suppose there is a third alternative involving a 2nd hour comedy block on Fridays, but Shark Tank is doing so well in there, I really am not sure about doing that, and I doubt ABC feels that much confident as well. If that happens, i think they will launch a new one there and reallocate one out of the neighbours or suburgatory.

  • Le Guy

The Neighbors should be moved to Friday.. try to be bring back the TGIF family comedy lineup of the glory days. Maybe move how to live with your parents with it. really think both shows could perform better there.

  • Judy912

Please ABC, give ‘CASTLE’ a full renewal of 24 episodes this fall and keep it right where it is…..Monday’s at 10/9 PM.

  • Courtneysaqt

I just watched the neighbors on hulu love it. Want to know what the warning is do not cancel. I hate when these networks have a good thing and quit it. Come on people watch the good shows. Although this is not my Favorite of all time I liked watching. It fun to think how aliens would get along here.
