CBS' flurry of renewals a few weeks ago took all the interest out of the remaining CBS drama renewal or cancellation decisions, so all that's left for the cancellation bear in these weekly posts is getting some headlines in place that will get some search engine love once frantic fans start searching for their previously canceled shows.

CSI:NY is now certain to be canceled. However, delusional fantasies over how it might return seem to grip many of our commenters, as well as entertaining many others, so have at it in the comments with your scenarios explaining how CBS will manage to keep CSI:NY if you're game.

Here's the bear's delusional scenario:

CBS' Les Moonves is able to open a portal to an alternate universe where CSI:NY airs at 9pm Friday, while in our universe another CBS drama airs in that timeslot. Viewers with the latest set top boxes are able to view or DVR either, or both.

I'm sure our commenters can do better than that.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.
*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

** The Renew/Cancel Index does not attempt to predict shows ending because the cast or production company chooses to end them. These shows have the ratings for renewal, but rumored cast/production company moves may end the shows.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the CBS Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I am so disappointed that CSI NY will most likely be
cancelled. I think it us far better than CSI LV
or CSI Miami ever was. Gary Sinese is an excellent leader and his team is awesome!
Thank God you are keeping Blue Bloods and Criminal Minds or I would be done with CBS

  • Kitty Nalewaik

Don’t take CSI NY off…. it is our favorite CSI….get rid of thise inane sit consent

  • Karen

Please keep csi ny. Csi ny is so much better than csi Miami my family enjoys ny better. And wants it back on the air

  • Paul Urbahns

This is not an alternate universe but it’s too bad CSI-NY is a CBS owned show. If it wasn’t , it could have been picked up by one of the other networks like NBC or ABC which have a lot lower ratings during the year. Of course it will not happen.

  • Tamara

Please DO NOT Cancell CSI NY. You’ve already taken CSI Miami. It was hard going thru withdrawl on CSI Miami. Trying to go thru that again will not be a pretty sight for me. I love all the CSI shows. Now if you come with CSI for differect states like Boston or Louisanna or Texas, now that would be cool. Please reconsider cancelling CSI NY.

    Thanks so much!

  • Mariana

I love csi ny and csi Miami they so both be renewed!!!!

  • Sandy

I truly believe that the people making the decisions about the shows need their head examined. Two and a Half Men should be cancelled before CSI:NY. Two and a Half Men is one of the dumbest shows I have watched. Also The Good Wife has become such a soapy, put it on daytime TV. Then of course you have all the reality shows, 2 Broke Girls (dumb) and of course The Mentalist who is always chasing Red John. Give it a rest. At least every week we get something new from CSI NY, it has a good story line every week and has some reality in it. Come on people give your head a shake and give us quality TV, ie. Blue Bloods, NCIS, and also get rid of NCIS Los Angeles. It was good at the beginning but becoming boring.

I like csi:ny to be saved I like it. I don’t like ncis:la makes no sence they lost the crime scean in ncis. Mentalist would do better earlyer time slot and on a day without sports. I hate those false reality shows.
