Like many of the Cancellation Bear's weekly posts at this point in the season, the CW predictions haven't changed (other than Cult being officially canceled last week) and the bear's just going over old ground.

Although the cancellation bear disagrees with Bubble Watch over the fate of Beauty & The Beast (enraged fans, please direct your rage appropriately), there is no disagreement about the fate of The Carrie Diaries. It's still likely to be canceled.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the CW Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    Cancel BATB and TCD! Please!,,,

  • The End

    @Sarah
    @Cancel BATB and TCD! Please!,,,

    On that comment alone, The CW should renew both Beauty and the Beast and The Carrie Diaries.

    Some of the hate here reminds me of the stuff I saw with Stargate Universe years ago lol

  • rose

    BEAUTY AND THE BEAST RENEWAL!!!

  • halloween

    BatB needs to drop to .4-.5 this week to make things interesting…if it stays .6 or above the rest of season it may barely get a 2nd season

  • CrystalBall

    With Nikita hitting 0.3 (maybe lower later) is it still as safe as it was ? It may fall to the toss up status.

  • JacobYates

    @CrystalBall
    Not a chance. Nikita is safe unless it dipped to a 0.0 for several episodes in a row. Even then, still a toss-up.

  • Claudia

    @Dan, why so bitter about BATB, predicting it will sink if moved to another time slot….prejudice, much? Oh I get it…you are a Nikita boy…blind by hate towards an underrated show from a fan from another underrated show, pathetic!

  • Beauty&theFlop

    It’s gonna be so hilarious when Beauty & the Flop gets axed, all the delusionoids are going to have kittens.

  • Claudia

    Halloween, no way, can you compare TCD and BATB are in the same situations, and forget about retention theories, that doesnt work anymore.

  • Georgia

    I like the Carrie Diaries. I started watching because I love Sex and The City. But I’ve continued watching because it is fun, refreshing, entertaining show.

  • Claudia

    I love haters, always amuse me how hate bring in the more passionate fans! Thank you for giving more traffic to BATB related articles in TVBTN, they are following @spoiler foot steps, we rank #6 among all senior shows and while in hiatus…Hillarious!

  • June

    Didn’t the (lack of) retention contribute to TSC’s demise?

  • DenverDean

    I’m still betting Nikita gets 13, which puts it to 80. Don’t think there is anything that magical about 88 (which would be 21). Plenty of shows like The Unit (68) and Flashpoint (75) were successfully sold with less than 88. I’m HOPING it does get a full order, but anything over 13 is a gift.

  • halloween

    @June that was one of the factors along with cost and apparently the CW president wasn’t a fan of the show

  • JJA

    I still think “Carrie Diaries” will be renewed over “Beauty & The Beast.”

    Why? Because of cost issues.

  • Renee

    Bill I love that picture!

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

    “Why? Because of cost issues.”

    Cost issues, which you have no actual knowledge of.

  • halloween

    I think CW will double up on reality shows and reruns on Friday next season. If Nikita only gets a short run, it may air mon-wed somewhere in the Fall

    I feel exactly the same way. Nikita has become my Fringe this season. I hope they give us a final 13 episode sign-off (with an option for back-9 because I’m greedy, and also because I think CW wants some flexibility given the success of Nikita’s next-season partner is doubtful). While 88 is magical in the sense that it’s the goal for stripped syndication, it’s not written in stone.

    Pepper: “I think BatB narrowly escaped the bear for now, but will certainly be a midseason snack next year.”

    I could agree with that. BATB has cost and revenue factors that complicate the prediction. Based on ratings alone, it should be canceled, but the other factors effect is unclear.

    However, what isn’t unclear is that the show will drop badly next season and be canceled by mid-season. And the studio, the network and the advertisers should be able to see that clearly. The only reason for keeping the show is IF it’s true the network can’t afford to dump it for some reason. I think Bill is wrong about that.

    But he’s definitely not wrong about TCD – it’s dead as a doornail.

    People thinking Nikita will get a short season are almost certainly wrong. When a show has significant syndication value, more episodes are desired, not less. That’s why Fringe got its final season despite punk ratings and the worst episodes they ever aired. And WBTV has more influence over the CW then it had over Fox. The CW exists to produce syndication properties.
