Like many of the Cancellation Bear's weekly posts at this point in the season, the CW predictions haven't changed (other than Cult being officially canceled last week) and the bear's just going over old ground.

Although the cancellation bear disagrees with Bubble Watch over the fate of Beauty & The Beast (enraged fans, please direct your rage appropriately), there is no disagreement about the fate of The Carrie Diaries. It's still likely to be canceled.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the CW Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    I’m with you Renee, that pic is adorable.

    As for comments on the article: I actually hope the cancel both TCD and BATB. I watch BATB, but the health of the network is at stake. It really needs to do some clean-up. If I believed that BATB would keep its current ratings on any night it was placed, I feel differently, but I simply don’t. I can’t imagine it being moved to Tuesdays or Friday and not lose viewers. CW needs to take a risk and hopefully revamp it’s image when they do.

    I see a lot of people commenting on Beauty falling to Carrie numbers without being on Thursday Nights.

    Usually I tend to agree with this logic, however I think Beauty and the Beast has a loyal following no matter if Vampire Diaries rises or lowers week to week..

    BATB numbers are not great by all means, and yes if this show were on last season it would’ve been canceled! But this is the 2012-13 season, not the 11-12 season and CW has worsened tremendously in the ratings department. So with these facts alone I believe CW will renew Beauty and it will still have a loyal following in the season 2 coming up.

    CW if you do renew Beauty, please put this show and Hart of Dixie at 9 and do not use them as 8 PM lead in shows.. It’s better to try self starting or compatible scheduling…

  • chris23

    I hear great word of mouth about Tomorrow People, The Hundred, and The Originals..

    If CW were to keep Supernatural and Arrow together, then they should strongly think about whether or not it would be more beneficial to place Originals behind The Vampire Diaries or self starting on another night.

    voices: “WBTV may have more clout over The CW, but they run the risk of upsetting their joint venture partner.”

    This may be a valid point. However, we don’t know whether Nikita is profitable despite its low ratings. Nikita sold well in France, allegedly, at least in season one, so it may have high international sales. We don’t know the US license fee WBTV is offering the CW, so if that’s low enough, the CW may not be losing money on it – except opportunity costs, which don’t exist because nothing else on the network can be moved to Friday and do any better. Speculation that BATB would do better than Nikita on Friday is just that – speculation.

    “As a compromise, it looks like CBS will go the Nikita route with BATB. They both will take losses at the network level, but only CBS will reap the international and syndication cash.”

    Except unless the international license fee remains high, there won’t be any syndication value from BATB since the show may not pay its way through its first two seasons to get the syndication seasons three and four. The only way we knew Nikita had syndication value is when it got renewed for season three. Until BATB is renewed for season three, we won’t know if it has syndication value. And it has to get through season two first, which is still iffy.

    Good God, will the delusion Secret Circle fans give it a rest. No one is currently working on the show, therefore it’s not coming back. Kevin Williamson, Andrew Miller, Britt Robertson and Phoebe Tonkin are all under contract for other shows. It’s never going to happen. Get over it and move on.

  • Christinaaa

    Can people please stop asking for it to be cancelled? i bet half of you haven’t even give it a watch.Some people (like me) love that show and its not helping our chances of getting a second season.if your not interested in the show then you shouldn’t really have something to comment about.

    @halloween

    Thanks for the additional info. I didn’t know that Mark P wasn’t a fan of TSC though I think that wasn’t a big factor in its cancellation.

    @chris, just curious why do you think BatB has a loyal fanbase?

  • Melanie

    Well — OH Sit just got the same ratings as TCD — for a fraction of the cost. If I wasn’t sure that TCD would be cancelled before — I am now.

  • Melanie

    @EatMorePez Save your breath — we’ve tried to logically explain that to Angelica, but she chooses the delusion the TSC will somehow be renewed over moving on to a new show.

    @Angelica — maybe you should lobby for a kickstarter campaign for a wrap up movie — assuming ANY of the folks involved would be even remotely interested.

    What the CW should do for next season:

    Mon-
    8: America’s Next Top Model/The Selection (new) (15 episodes)
    9: Hart of Dixie (24 episodes)

    Tue-
    8: The Hundred (new) (13 episodes)
    9: Supernatural (22 episodes)

    Wed-
    8: Arrow (24 episodes)
    9: The Tomorrow People (new) (13 episodes)

    Thu-
    8: The Vampire Diaries (22 episodes)
    9: The Originals (new) (22 episodes)

    Fri-
    8: Nikita (final season) (20 episodes)
    9: Repeats

    Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  • evesix

    Sorry but your scheduel sucks Nick.

  • starship

    @Nick
    They’ll never go into a new season with scheduled repeats. Nikita will get either 13 (for a total of 80), 21 (for a total of 88), or 23 episodes (for a total of 90), 20 is a ridiculous number, don’t know where you pulled that from. I can’t see the ratings crapfest that is ANTM being anywhere other than Friday at 9, if it was to bleed into the season and not run entirely during the summer that is. As for the rest, I’m pretty sure Hart of Dixie will indeed be going to Mondays at 9 and Supernatural to Tuesdays at 9, but it really is too early to make guesses about which pilots they pick and which night they go on.

  • lois

    cancelled hart of Dixie please

  • Adrian

    @starship
    the “crapfest” has done better than Nikita, Emily, Carrie, 90210 and Cult (and maybe matched BATB? I’m not sure), so I think it will indeed air at Friday at 9 in the Fall.

    I hope Pedowitz is smarter than Ostroff and doesn’t move BATB to Friday. It *could* pull a HoD and stay at 0.5. No need to unnecessarily dump it since it’ll be doing 0.2-0.3

    The way things are going, I have a feeling 0.5 is going to be automatic renewal on the CW next year and we’ll be debating over which 0.2-0.3 rated shows will be back

  • Cally

    I just want HoD to be renewed and I’ll be happy. I never got into 90210 or GG, Arrow didn’t appeal to me, I don’t watch Nikita but love Shane West, I tried to watch TCD, BatB, and Cult but gave up after the first episode of each. I did watch Emily Owens until they announced it was cancelled. I’ve got my other main two SPN and VD, so I just need HoD.

  • Stephen

    Batb cancelled. Why give it another season when the KNOW its gunna do bad the next season. Without tvd batb is DEAD. And the secret circle had a stronger fan base than batb ever will. Just look at the polls and the voting for the most missed show. I think cw should bring back tsc. IT WILL MAKE HUGE CONTROVERSY AND TONNES OF PEOPLE WILL WATCH THE SHOW THAT WAS WRONGFULLH CANCELLED THEN RENEWED. Ps I’m really glad Veronica mars is getting a movie done. They should never have cancelled that wonderful show. God sometimes I think CW is run by 2 year olds.

  • Ryan

    @ Stephen

    ”And the secret circle had a stronger fan base than batb ever will”

    ”IT WILL MAKE HUGE CONTROVERSY AND TONNES OF PEOPLE WILL WATCH THE SHOW THAT WAS WRONGFULLH CANCELLED THEN RENEWED”

    GET real

    serious you need to wake up from this fantasy world of yours
    are you on weed or something??? :)

    BATB fan base is bigger then TCD will ever reach :)

  • Ryan

    i mean TSC”

  • Nick

    @evesix

    Sorry but your scheduel sucks Nick.

    Thanks. Do you have a reason?

    @starship

    They’ll never go into a new season with scheduled repeats.

    I really don’t care about what The CW will or won’t do. Their ratings are proof that there’s been some pretty bad decision-making being done there, so I’m going against the grain. Sorry.

    Nikita will get either 13 (for a total of 80), 21 (for a total of 88), or 23 episodes (for a total of 90), 20 is a ridiculous number, don’t know where you pulled that from.

    Typo, sheesh. I meant 21.

    I can’t see the ratings crapfest that is ANTM being anywhere other than Friday at 9

    It’s not a ratings cr*apfest. It would do better than TCD and Beauty, that’s for sure. And it would cost sooo much less.

    if it was to bleed into the season and not run entirely during the summer that is.

    It’s almost certainly going to be partially/fully in-season. It wasn’t in The CW’s summer premiere schedule, which had shows until the end of July.

    it really is too early to make guesses about which pilots they pick and which night they go on.

    Not really. Reportedly, The CW already looked at the pilots for The Hundred and The Tomorrow People, and liked them a lot. The Selection, as an adaptation of a popular teen book series, and The Originals, as a Vamp Diaries spin-off, are already shoo-ins for renewal. Then, you just take those 4 and look at which veteran they’d be best paired with.

  • starship

    @Nick
    Fair enough, I hadn’t really paid attention to ANTM’s ratings, as I wouldn’t be caught dead watching such a show, I just assumed they were terrible, my bad. Still, I’m sure they haven’t announced its premiere because they’re still unsure what they’ll renew and which pilots they’ll choose. Once they decide that, and if they don’t need it to fill a spot in-season, they can launch it in late June/early July and have it finish by the time the season starts.

    As far as pilots, these are just rumours and the CW always seem to pick a couple of underdogs when it comes to pilots (Hart of Dixie, Emily Owens, etc.) while opting out of picking some early favourites, so while I’m relatively sure The Originals and The Selection are a sure thing and The Tomorrow People very likely, I wouldn’t count out the possibility of one of the terribly sounding Company Town or Blink (or worst case both) being picked up over one of those.
