Like many of the Cancellation Bear's weekly posts at this point in the season, the CW predictions haven't changed (other than Cult being officially canceled last week) and the bear's just going over old ground.

Although the cancellation bear disagrees with Bubble Watch over the fate of Beauty & The Beast (enraged fans, please direct your rage appropriately), there is no disagreement about the fate of The Carrie Diaries. It's still likely to be canceled.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the CW Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

  • Linsey

    I think they should give TCD just a chance for season 2 and cancel beauty and a beast.

  • Hades

    @Linsey

    I think 13 episodes is more than enough of a chance for a show to establish a viewership. How about giving another show a chance to become a hit instead?

  • Jared

    BATB reminds me of shows like Awkward and Scandal which were steady during there first seasons but had potential to grow there audience and eventually became popular series thanks to social media and the fans. The CW should take note and renew BATB. In my opinion that fact that CBS Studios produces BATB will give it a second season if it continues to stay steady up until the finale.

  • Jess Weatherley

    i think it is a shame if you cancel the carrie diaries because many people enjoy it or just have one more season to round it off.

  • feinn

    @Jared what are you talking about BatB has lost half its audience since it premiered…not encouraging…being steady at lows is not an accomplishment …reality check

  • ActualGuru

    The Carrie Diaries is a lock for a second season. Beauty and the Beast, however, is the toss-up for renewal.

  • Richard Steven Hack

    ActualGuru: “The Carrie Diaries is a lock for a second season.”

    See, this is what I mean by maximum delusion…Anyone who thinks TCD has any shot at all, let alone a LOCK, is on crack. And a particularly nasty form of crack at that. Maybe it’s more like DMT, a maximum hallucinogen. :-)

  • gem is truely outrageous

    @DenverDean

    i agree i dont see nikita getting a full run but i do think it will get a send off season. i dont like the show but for the fans i hope yall get a closing season it pisses me off when shows get yanked with no closure.

  • gem is truely outrageous

    @ActualGuru
    Are you serious or was that sarcasm? No really you don’t actually believe that? If and that’s a huge If TCD does manage to get picked up for any length of a second season it will be either a tv miracle or the cw is officially to broke to do anything else.

  • Solelle

    lol @ Richard Steven Hack you are growing on me. :)-

  • Ember

    Ok thanks for not answering my question everyone

  • Solelle

    @Ember the cw is unlikely to cancel both. I wish they would cancel 3 shows and i have a specific three but that aint happening hun.

  • gem is truely outrageous

    What if they picked up all 4 hum that would leave room fr like what 2 new shows. thats a bat in hell chance i know but what if :D

  • Richard Steven Hack

    Ember: There’s no reason whatever that the CW can’t cancel five shows and pick up five shows plus one or two for midseason replacement. At least there’s no KNOWN reason. There may BE a reason but no one here knows it, including Bill and Robert.

    All these comments about how they “can’t” are based on nothing more than speculation and the past history of the CW – which means absolutely nothing because the network hasn’t existed long enough to have a real “history”.

    The CW has debuted five shows in the past, and canceled 85% of their new shows in the past. They can do it again. It’s that simple. If they can’t, it’s for reasons no one here knows until it actually happens one way or the other.

    End of story. Wait four more weeks and see what they do.

  • Richard Steven Hack

    And I’ll repeat for the retarded. The CW will give Nikita a full 22-episode renewal on Fridays. They have no reason to do anything else. All this “gee, they should give it 13 episodes because it will do a .2 season average” is nonsense.

    What the hell good is giving the show 13-episodes when the only reason to renew it at ALL is to get 88 episodes for syndication? Do you think they’re going to run it TWO more seasons at 13-episodes each so they can get .1 season average in the last season? Ridiculous.

    And yes, shows have been syndicated by WBTV with less than 88 episodes. But Nikita has far too much syndication potential to limit the episodes going in. I’m sure WBTV wants 88 episodes, not 80 or whatever.

    As long as WBTV offers the show to the CW for a low enough license fee, AND as long as the CW has NO show able to do better on Friday than Nikita, Nikita will get a full 22-episode renewal for one last season.

  • RS

    Cancel Beauty and the Male Model now. If it is renewed, I will do my level best to get it canceled next season. It is an abomination to the trope and one of you Beasties attacked me personally. I’ll go to the religious right – beastiality. I’ll go to the disabled groups – the original is an amazing triumph of love over physical disability; this incarnation is an amazing triumph of love over a little tiny scar on his pretty little face. I will devote all of the time I’m not working as a state lawyer to getting this travesty canceled. So save me the effort, and cancel it now.

  • Holly

    @RS,

    If it is renewed, I will do my level best to get it canceled next season.

    Out of curiosity, what exactly will that entail? Whining on the internet hasn’t seemed to make an impact this year.

  • sarah

    SCREW YOU!
    I WANT TO KEEP THE CARRIE DIARIES! DONT BE SO QUICK TO CANCEL IT LIKE WTF IS YOUR PROBLEM? ITS GETTING SOME BUZZ SO JUST GIVE IT ANOTHER SEASON OR I WILL WWIOFJSJKDNZKFJNDSDNSKJAGduihADUIWNAKDSA

  • sarah

    screw beauty and the beast, KEEP THE CARRIE DIARIES
    OMG DON’T PLAY THESE GAMES!
    STOP BEING ANAL ABOUT RATINGS!

  • Jason50

    @RS- I get a good laugh from your BATB…er…Beauty and The Male Model rants but really, do you need to make it your personnal mission to get it cancelled? I don’t care for the show either, in fact I think it’s one of the worst written shows on TV and SOME of the fans can be annoying at times but I don’t really see the need to waste the time or the energy crusading for it to be cancelled. If the show is cancelled this year then fine, CW will have another show new next year that can be hated on(no shortage of that on CW). If the show is renewed, well at least it wasn’t Cult that got renewed.
