With effectively no suspense at all left with Fox's renewal and cancellation decisions, the Cancellation Bear is forced to continue to highlight the obvious.

Last week it was the obvious renewal of Glee, this week, the even more obvious cancellation of Touch. Kiefer, as FOX's Kevin Reilly said, there were worse things that could have happened to your show than it being put on Friday, it could have been canceled last spring. Instead, Touch is certain to be canceled this spring.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the Fox Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @CrimTV
    Terra Nova made infinitely more money than Touch or Mob Doctor and I bet the Following is pretty expensive itself. I know it’s not Terra Nova expensive, but with Kevin Bacon on the show plus the effects costs, I guarantee it costs more than the average $3 million for a network drama. Plus, Terra Nova was profitable, more,so than Touch it Mob Doctor.

    All that typing and both schedules are nearly identical.
    You could have just made a minor adjustment and typed same.

  • The End

    @JacobYates
    @Terra Nova made infinitely more money than Touch or Mob Doctor

    I think the right term here is MARGINALLY more. Infinitely is incorrect on almost every imaginable level.

  • Nick

    Mon-

    8: Delirium (new) (13 episodes)

    9:30: American Dad (22 episodes)

    Midseason – The Mindy Project (13 episodes), the remainder of Kitchen Nightmares’s season.

    Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  • JacobYates

    @The End
    You got me there. Just an expression.

  • Nick

    @J.J.

    Friday
    8 – Kitchen Nightmares
    9 – new reality

    For the 10 millionth time, there are no Fox realities in development! It’s impossible to get one on the fall schedule in time. Put Hotel Hell there, it is strangely missing from the summer schedule.

  • Dan

    @The French Guy – If FOX wants to split the Tuesday comedy block up than thats a Possibility, I agree with Glee likely moving to Fridays. If FOX keeps the comedy block on Tuesday then they could air 2 new dramas, one MOnday at 9 and Thursday at 9 and stil move Glee to Fridays at 8, thats even ore likely since Glee will probably be ending soon

    My guess

    Monday
    8:00 Bones
    9:00 NEW DRAMA / The Following

    Tuesday
    8:00 Raising Hope
    8:30 The Mindy Project
    9:00 New Girl
    9:30 NEW COMEDY

    Wednesday
    8:00 The X Factor

    Thursday
    8:00 The X Factor
    9:00 NEW DRAMA

    Friday
    8:00 Glee
    9:00 Kitchen Nightmares

    Sunday Fall
    8:00 The Simpsons
    8:30 Bob’s Burgers
    9:00 Family Guy
    9:30 American Dad

    Sunday Jan
    7:30 American Dad
    8:00 The Simpsons
    8:30 Murder Police
    9:00 Family Guy
    9:30 Bob’s Burgers

    This schedule allows FOX to air 2 new dramas and keep the Tuesday night comedy block intact. I expect 1 new comedy to air this fall but if FOX wants to premiere 2 dramas, their only option is to move Glee to Fridays.

    FOX hasnt premiered more than 1 drama in the fall since 2006. (They came close in 2007 with K-Ville and New Amsterdam but ended up pushing Amsterdam to midseason)

    2005 – Prison Break, Bones, Head Cases, Killer Instinct, Reunion
    2006 – Justice, Vanished, Standoff
    2007 – K-Ville
    2008 – Fringe
    2009 – Glee
    2010 – Lone Star
    2011 – Terra Nova
    2012 – The Mob Doctor

  • Dan

    @Nick – If FOX moves Glee to Fridays at 8 and doesn’t air Hotel Hell in the summer, couldn’t they air that this fall Fridays at 9 and air Kitchen Nightmares at midseason in the slot. If Hotel Hell makes the Summer schedule I do expect KN to air 9pm Fridays Sept-May, maybe time sharing with something else. Like CBS’s Undercover Boss its always been a good schedule filler. Moving Glee to Fridays at 8 makes sense for FOX because it gives room for a drama not only Mondays at 9 but Thursdays at 9 as well.

    Bones and Glee could be nearing an end so more than 1 drama this fall would be wise for FOX.

  • Notorious

    Don’t think you are giving The Cleveland Show enough credit.
    If renewed it would be their fifth season and that’s good for all involved financially! And you also have to take into consideration that FOX isn’t about to anger Seth. If Seth wants another season of Cleveland, FOX would definitely oblige! Also…not sure if FOX has enough animated new shows in the works to fill the void.

  • Phil

    I don’t care, I will still watch Touch!

  • Michael

    BREAKING: Cleveland Show is cancelled. So there will now be LITERALLY nothing to see here….Just waiting on the Official word on “Touch”.

  • Katherine

    Fox gave Touch an awful time slot, and they barely even promoted it comparing it to other shows. It should of have been on a Monday night or Thursday night after American Idol. Touch is number 1 drama in like 50 countries, they could renew it for one final season, but if it gets cancelled Netflix could save it just like they did with The Killing.

  • NJ Viewer

    Fox needs an epic sci-fi show like Star Trek, Firefly, Stargate, or Farscape.
    btw, I read somewhere that Keifer is working on a new drama for NBC.

  • JacobYates

    @Bill Gorman
    Will you either confirm or deny the rumors that Cleveland Show has been cancelled?

  • TV Viewer

    Michael is correct!

    Tim the bear from The Cleveland Show say hello to Zap2it’s Cancellation bear.

  • David

    So with Cleveland gone, there’s still one incredibly hard question! *rolls eyes*

    Will Glee be renewed and will Touch be cancelled?

    Lol..there’s nothing left to talk about on Fox now except for next years schedule and new show pickups.

  • RandyL

    @Notorious
    The Cleveland Show has been cancelled, and guess what? Seth MacFarlane couldn’t care less.
