With effectively no suspense at all left with Fox's renewal and cancellation decisions, the Cancellation Bear is forced to continue to highlight the obvious.

Last week it was the obvious renewal of Glee, this week, the even more obvious cancellation of Touch. Kiefer, as FOX's Kevin Reilly said, there were worse things that could have happened to your show than it being put on Friday, it could have been canceled last spring. Instead, Touch is certain to be canceled this spring.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the Fox Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

As for Fox shecdule fall season This September they should shuffle their shows around having X factor move their 2hr edition to Thursday at 8:00-10:00pm & their elimination show to Friday at 8:00pm following Glee at 9:00pm.Here is how the shecdule starting with
    Monday
    8:00pm Bones
    9:00pm Bommerrang!!!(new)/The Following(Midseason)
    Tuesday
    8:00pm Raising Hope
    8:30pm Mindy Project
    9:00pm New Girl
    9:30pm (new)
    Wednesday
    8:00pm Delirium(new)
    9:00pm (new)
    Thursday
    8:00-10:00pm X factor
    Friday
    8:00pm-9:00pm X factor

    Animation Sunday remain the same!!!

    @Michael
So there will now be LITERALLY nothing to see here

It’s just going to be a blank page?

Also, I love your use of capitalization to highlight your inability to use words correctly. It’s like you’re begging to be mocked.

  • Other than THAT Mrs. Lincoln how was the play?

If only Tony Almeida had shown up on TOUCH…

  • Dan

The Cleveland Show may as well have been cancelled last May when the option wasn’t picked up for a fifth season.

So its basically down to Glee and Touch. Will Glee be renewed before upfronts? Will Touch be cancelled before upfronts?

Let me guess Renewal Odds for the next 2 shows

    Bill & Robert

    Glee 100%
    Touch 0%

  • Cass

Well, reports are trickling in all over the place that The Cleveland Show is canceled. At least you have your headline for next week, Bill!

  • Bob Jones

    @Jeff (Canada)

    Damn . . . I used to love NBC’s ‘Previously on Heroes’

Something Something, Peter vs. Hiro . . . Holy Moley Nathan can Fly

Nikki, Tracy, and the third twin

  • Kris

kiefer should be a bad guy on the next season of Justified.

  • Spen B

    MONDAY

    8:00 Bones
9:00 NEW DRAMA (13 eps.) / The Following (15 eps.)

    TUESDAY

    8:00 Raising Hope
    8:30 NEW COMEDY
    9:00 New Girl
    9:30 The Mindy Project

    WEDNESDAY

    8:00 The X-Factor / American Idol
    9:30 NEW COMEDY

    - As others have said, XF and AI ratings are no longer high enough to justify taking up the entire night on Wednesday, and the final half hour slot would be better used launching a new comedy.

    THURSDAY

    8:00 The X-Factor / American Idol
    9:00 NEW DRAMA

    - The post-Idol/XF slot on Thursday should be used to launch a high-concept drama. The Following, Revolution, and Arrow were all hits this season, and that should justify developing more high-concept shows.

    FRIDAY

    8:00 Kitchen Nightmares
    9:00 Glee (final season)

    - Glee is dying both ratings-wise and (from what I’ve heard) quality-wise. Time during the regular week should be spent launching new shows, not propping up Glee. Plus, who knows, maybe it could do well on Friday.

    SUNDAY

    7:00 The Simpsons (R)
    7:30 American Dad
    8:00 The Simpsons
    8:30 Bob’s Burgers
    9:00 Family Guy
    9:30 NEW ANIMATED COMEDY

  • tomko44

Looks like Touch is canceled already. Been off the schedule for the last two weeks. I don’t think they had a season finale.

  • Jed

Bring back the mob doctor. :( such a well put together show…. very underrated as far as im concerned…. Your not going to fill the giant shoes that the epicness of House left behind but, stick with the mob doctor it worked, the characters went well together.

  • Rebecca

    @tomko44
No, Touch is back on 4/26 and again on 3/3 and 3/10. Season/series finale on the 10th if it’s not renewed (and I don’t expect it to be).

  • Michael

    Okay…time to Update Zappers.

Cleveland Show has been CANCELLED. I don’t know what the holdup is, but numerous reports have now stated that.

Also, breaking today..Glee has been RENEWED (no Surprise) but hold on….
It’s been Renewed for TWO SEASONS!! YES!! 2 SEASONS!! Make what you want of that. But that is the report just in.

  • James

Do you even need to do a renew/cancel index for Fox now? Just one show which is certain cancellation.

  • Beth

With Glee’s 2-year renewal, I have a feeling Bones is closer to moving to Fridays next season. :(

  • Theoacme

@James: There is the alternate universe Earth, with an alternate ratings service, with four alternate commercial broadcast networks, an alternate public broadcaster, three alternate mini-nets, six hundred alternate cable networks, and the same HBO (and in the alternate universe, still extra!)…

…and in that case, Touch would still be cancelled.

  • TheCrowSeenU

    Touch is underrated

  • danielcw

Is there more than one independent source for the Cleveland Show cancelation.
Every “report” I have seen seems to come from the same source.
So it is not a safe bet, as far as I know.

  • Dan

@Beth – Nahh, Bones will remain on Mondays, its FOX’s only drama besides Glee which is more of a comedy drama and The Following which will return midseason. I expected Glee to move to Fridays at 8 and for FOX to try out 2 new dramas, Mon at 9 and Thur at 9, But now with this renewal, Glee may not actually move to Fridays.

  • Dan

@Rebecca – You mean 4/26, 5/3, and 5/10. And that’s pretty much the end of the road for Touch.

@Michael – Technically Cleveland Show hasnt been cancelled, FOX just said, no additional episodes at this time. So think back to when Family Guy was cancelled in 2002, Futurama in 2003, and King of the Hill in 2006. No additional episodes were ordered but the shows were never officially cancelled. Family Guy returned 3 years later for its fourth season, Futurama was revived 4 years later on Comedy Central and King of the Hill was then renewed for 3 more years.

In other word FOX may not officially cancel The Cleveland Show within the next few but “No Additional episodes ordered at this time” = cancelled. At least all episodes will be aired by May 19.

  • JakeSnake

    @Wright

LMAO! Fringe was my favorite show, but IT IS NEVER COMING BACK! I accepted that about a year ago when they announced the final season. I think it’s about time you did as well. Clearly these Touch ratings prove they might as well have just given Fringe a complete final season and let it do slightly better than Touch, but either way this was going to be it.

As far as Touch goes though I find it hilarious that Fox hasn’t announced the cancellation when any idiot can see it coming. Clearly they just don’t want the five remaining viewers left to abandon the show entirely, but it’s gone.
