With effectively no suspense at all left with Fox's renewal and cancellation decisions, the Cancellation Bear is forced to continue to highlight the obvious.

Last week it was the obvious renewal of Glee, this week, the even more obvious cancellation of Touch. Kiefer, as FOX's Kevin Reilly said, there were worse things that could have happened to your show than it being put on Friday, it could have been canceled last spring. Instead, Touch is certain to be canceled this spring.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the Fox Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @JakeSnake

It’s incredible that after everything some people find the time to complain about Fringe. When Fox renewed the show for it’s final season, they were actually losing money on it but did it anyway for the fans to give them closure. People that want more and blame the network have no respect. Fox could of easily of just pulled the plug after season 4 but they didn’t.

If we play the grasping at straws game, perhaps Fox haven’t announced Touch’s cancellation publicly because they want to announce at the same time as a 24 movie? That same movie which was rumored to have budget issues.

  • Blake

So… I hope with Cleveland Show now out of the equation that Cleveland is now put back onto Family Guy.

  • were123

With Cleveland show cancelled (as reported), Glee renewed, and Touch sure to be cancelled, it will be a hard week for the renew/cancel index with FOX, but luckily May 7 is not so far away

  • Dan

Well there’s 3 more renew cancel indexes

April 23, April 30, and May 7 so I;m sure some headline will be thought up.

@JakeSnake – I guess FOX doesnt see the point in announcing a Touch cancellation now, there would be no suspense in terms on the upfronts. Everyone who follows the ratings knows that Touch is dead, its funny because in the last 3 years FOX had at least 3 bubble dramas who’s fate was 50/50 (Human Target, Lie to Me, Chicago Fire) and last season (Touch, Alcatraz, & The Finder)

Too bad reality shows go on and on and something with spirituality and meaning with purpose gets cancelled . We love Touch and all it means. So sad to see it go. We need more what would happen in the future. NOT!!!!

Hope they wrap it up or maybe try to bring it back mid-summer

  • Rebecca

    @Dan
lol thanks. I typed 3 instead of 5 there. And I know that will be the end.

  • Sam

I am not surprised the Simpsons were renewed. I am surprised however that they are renewed and there is no statement from the production company if they are able to continue to provide episodes. They apparently cut costs as much as possible and now are asking the cast to take a pay cut to continue (although it is still above average in the ratings it draws for Fox, the ratings are not what they were 25 years ago for this ancient show). It keeps current by using current events, but if the voice characters don’t take a pay cut, it is my understanding even if Fox renews it – it is canceled by the production company.

I’m sorry that FOX felt the need to cancel Touch. I’m so tired of reality shows that are being kept on that have no important context to them. Who cares about Kim’s big butt and preg stomach or better (and I am a Southener)but really people Honey (FAT in entire family)Boo Boo. I hope you realize that not everyone is like that. And I’ve only seen the commercials on these 2 programs and choice to keep my brain alive.
But back to Touch with as many children being born of last 10-20 years with autistic challenges atleast this showed some abilities these kids have and most of us want to look away. So Keifer isn’t doing 24 anymore get over it. He chose to step out of his box and show us a different side and ability to himself. I hope FOX really takes a look at this and maybe revamps this with Keifer. I found it interesting how the story line keeps moving. Oh yeah you might find yourself having to use your brain to figure out some things something none of the reality shows are capable of unless thats all ya’ll want to do (eat (get fat) drink (be a drunk) and basically lose the ability to think)

  • dale

Stuart, TOUCH is really entertaining, not great, but a hella lot better than nearly everything else on free TV. I’m very disappointed it’s going away? I really enjoyed tonight’s episode. Is this all getting wrapped up?

  • sadjane

I can’t believe Touch is going to be gone, is it being cancelled because it is too cerebrial for todays viewers? Probably. Great work Kiefer, hope to see you back soon.

  • laurie carasso

I am finding Touch unbelievably annoying this season, from the stereotypical speech pattern of the rabbi, to the endless breathy whispering of Kiefer and the whole stupid conspiracy theme.
May have jumped the shark after all, better to go with dignity.

  • Kathleen Walters

What a shame that Fox has cancelled Touch. It was one of the better shows presented this past season. I think their big error was moving the show from Thurs. to Fri. It was two week into the season before I realized the switch. The story theme was excellent. Mr. Sutherland, Jake, the Rabbi, and many of the other supporting characters (some who were killed off way too soon) were a perfect match for this show.
Very sorry to see it axed.
